Title: Spec Ops: The Line Demo is up
Post by: Green Man on May 08, 2012, 06:56:10 PM
I just finished the demo. It's a standard cover-based shooter with some light squad mechanics but it's well put together and I really enjoyed my time with it. Has a nice visual style for everything being a sandy-wasteland and I really love what they do with the music in-game. Seems like the story could be pretty decent too.

Yager seems like one of those hidden gem studios but considering how long this game has been in development, they might be horrible at hitting deadlines.

It's up on PSN too, I guess.

Tried the demo last night. It's Gears of War with Modern Warfare weapons instead of Gears weapons. The problem is that concept seems so 2 or 3 years ago that nobody is really into that concept anymore. Its decent enough. Solid and workman like.  It's about what you would expect mixing those two concepts together except for the fact that nobody who likes those two franchises will likely spend $60 on this game when they already have the franchises they love. This is another one of those titles that just doesn't make sense in the current marketplace with a $60 price tag.

yeah, Stoney's right, this is going to get slaughtered at 60, but then again, its been worked on for sooooooooo long that Take 2 really doesn't have a choice but other then to push it out and hope for the best.

at least its slightly more interesting then your usual dudebro shooter.  Heart of Darkness inspired and with a unique setting.  Too bad Nolan North plays the protagonist, he isn't even bad here but his voice is way out of place for me in this kinda thing.

also, this doesn't look near as good as the reveal trailer, and appears to be missing features from that (sand shifting-malleable battlefield).  I'm still kinda rooting for this though.
