- Monster World IV (Genesis/Mega Drive)

Alex Kidd & Co. Collection
- Super Hang-On (Arcade)
- The Revenge of Shinobi (Genesis/Mega Drive)
- Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Master System)

gonna be getting both of these. Good to see Sega putting out some more unusual shit. Golden Axe and Streets of Rage collections next week but those games have been re-released 2 million times so who gives a shit.

I'm gonna stay up all night getting 200/200 in the Alex Kidd collection.

I've never played the Genesis Wonder Boy games, are they any good? I loved the shit out of Wonder Boy 3: Dragons Trap on Master System.

The arcade MW game is weird, it's a forced-scrolling arcade platformer, not really my cup of tea... but MWIV is the real star of the show here. It's fantastic, very bright and vibrant graphics, tight gameplay, definitely get in on this...

I cant tell if its actually the arcade MW game or not, could be a typo. The achievement tiles and descriptions do look like the Master System Game (and the Sphinx is a boss in that game): http://www.xbox360achievements.org/game/svc-monster-world/achievements/`. Also the box art shown is that of the Master System game. I played it a fair bit as a youngster, it's a good game!

Good full screen options, the emulation has stretched the game to widescreen hd and still fairly sharp, no nasty Backbone vaseline shit here. Seems Sega found a better company to port their shit.

edit: ah, playing around with the screen size options it seems that going full screen does result in some cropping, which is OK and better than that stretching fuzzy shit. Still, it looks decent enough if you want that. I'm just gonna stick with original res with the 'ugly borders'.

edit2: there seems to be heaps of adjustable display options, and even 3d mode? I'm not touching that shit. Basically it seems all previous complaints about Sega's emulation and porting have been addressed and you can customise the screen to however you want the thing. This actually makes the Streets of Rage collection a lot sexier...

Onto Alex Kidd now. I want to 200 this asap and get on the TA leaderboards as one of the first cunts to do it

Halfway through Alex Kidd now, it's SICK how much playing the game is instinctual for me. It was the first game I ever owned as it was built into my Master System 2. It was also the first game I ever completed, I was 7 and that was 19 years ago. I still know the game by heart :dizzy

Only hurdle to getting 200/200 will be beating Revenge of Shinobi with no continues. I could only get up to level 8 legit back in the day, but I beat the game using an emulator in 2003. Again, save states will make this easy. Last 6 stages or so will test me, last time I played my cartridge I only made it up to level 7.

I wonder if they'll ever do any Saturn ports? It seems to be the dark patch of their backlog. I heard an urban legend that all Saturn code was deleted by accident. Or something.

I always had such high hopes for Backbone, and they seemed to devolve into an utter churn-house. I also find myself wondering how much of the MAME project they may have ever lifted without giving any credit to the project...

I really liked the Master System version of it as a kid, but the difficulty is crazy and I never did finish the game. Save states to the rescue! Some of those bosses were ridiculous. I had a hard time on the last boss even with incessant save state scumming.

Playing Monster World now and it's great. Lovely colorful graphics and Metroidvania gameplay never fails!

I read that Monster World IV is the crown jewel of the set, so I'm saving that for last.
