Lexi is a boxer mix and she's doing okay, but we're running out of the dog food that her previous owner gave us and I'm researching what brand I should give her. I know it should have first and foremost, meat, but what exactly are the best brands for me to get? She weighs about 60 pounds btw. I know to ignore Pedigree and Purina.

I buy Taste of the Wild. Eagle Pack (or something close to that) is also great. Both are pretty damn expensive though. Most dog food is unless you buy cheap brands. My pitbull and poodle do not care what they eat though. In fact, the expensive stuff messed up their stomachs. But they love the cheap Purina/Pedigree type stuff. Apollo (my lab/great dane) can't eat that stuff though. It tears up his stomach and causes him to do spray farts. And his hair starts to fall out if I get him grocery store dog food. So I get him the Taste of the Wild and Eagle Pack brands.

how much does taste of the wild cost ya, mups? a local vet place has it and it's showing up on a lot of suggested lists, it's also a grain-free diet.

Unless you're a stickler you don't have to go completely grain free (I do though for Apollo). Mainly look at the ingredients. If the first ingredient isn't "beef" or "chicken" then skip it. Try to make sure there's not "beef meal" or "Chicken bone meal" and crap like that in there. The Petco by my house has absolutely crap selection of food. It's a million different variations of Pedigree and Purina. I go to a local place a few miles away and buy from there.

27 bucks for a 15 lb bag. It lasts Apollo about a week and a half. Well worth it to not have to clean shit off my walls.

I feed Lexi a two one cup and a half meals of her current food a day, so she eats a total of 3 cups of food a day. Depending on how high quality some of these brands are, I may have to switch it up. How many cups do you feed Apollo a day? Mind, Lex is like 60 or so pounds.

Apollo is about 110 lbs. He eats 5 cups a day. She'll need less of the quality stuff. If I feed him cheap food he needs anywhere from 6 to 8 cups a day. It should last her a long while then.

Seriously? Home made. Stuff you eat. I fed my dog rice, groats, chicken and carrots for over 6 years. He is as healthy as a dog can be.

I feed mine Wellness and he's fine. Once when I was pretty broke I tried to feed him some Purina shit and it made him stink so damn bad.

Wegmans brand. I'd buy him more expensive food if he wasn't so stupid. I feel like I'd waste my money.

We get our dog this kind usually and it's pretty good. When we first got our dog we took him to some puppy training class and they had a day where they talked about dog food and what stuff to specifically look for in the ingredients (I think Mupepe covered some of it already). They also had a list of some specific ingredients to avoid but I don't remember all of them off the top of my head. iirc pretty much all the major brands that sell cheap petfood (Iams, Pedigree, etc.) were kind of shitty. Of course you'll end up paying a bunch more for the higher quality food but what can you do.

That's what we feed Fred! We usually mix it with some boiled meat too (he's a really picky eater). What's nice about Royal Canin is how they have different formulas for different breeds/sizes so it caters to specific needs.

dogs love meat so look for something that gives your dog a good mix of protein and fiber from fruits/veggies. I personally recommend Taste of the Wild as its mainly just meat, but its packed with the vitamins and nutrients your pet needs.
I come from a family of pet owners and between my mother and grandmother I always had multiple dogs around me in my life. I now no longer have dogs, but rather cats. I feed them Taste of the wild, which seems to work wonders for them.
A few other choices I highly recommend:

+1 to Innova if your dog isn't sensitive. It's upper middle tier whereas Taste of the Wild and other stuff is top dollar food. Good bang for your buck
