Okay.
So the new macs are out and I wanna jump on that, but on the other hand, GAMES.
My current computer is an Asus ROG laptop. Specs are:
Intel Core 2 Duo P7350@ 2ghz
4 gigs of ram
GeForce 260M
I want the new MBP because I love mac OS and environment. I have to work on Windows as well for work, so I'd have the added benefit of being able to install windows and work on my Windows via my Mac, so I'd have two in one. Which is boner.
But I'm not sure if it'd give me much in regards to gaming and I can't find any sites that are giving me solid comparisons of 260m and 650m.
I want a laptop that can play games well but isn't a dedicated HEAT BOX TANK that I can't tank anywhere because it's so heavy and it has shit battery life.
I'm open to Windows but try to sell me on it.
-
the 650M is roughly equivalent to a 560M, which is about 1.5x as fast as a 260M. not worth it.
also macbook pros are HEAT BOXES if you do anything with the gpu. hell, even if you don't. when turboboost kicks in for any moderate-to-heavy cpu work, INFERNO TIME.
fuck you re: selling you on windows, you dirtperson.
-
Fine then, show me good laptops that can game but aren't heat boxes.

Buy a car and move the fuck out first, THEN get yourself a new laptop.
-
seriously, though, if you can afford a fuckin' macbook pro, get an alienware or go to http://www.sagernotebook.com and price out a good rig
-
My car in the shop is done, Gundam. 8) Picking it up later this week. Then it's apartment huntin' time.
-
Hmm, that looks great for work, much better deal than the MBP. My current computer chugs when I have a REALLY big file open in Photoshop and Painter making it hard to do my job at home.
What about this one?

It has a Radeon, but I don't have experience with AMD.
-
The other week I had to do a project in Adobe After Effects AND Premiere.
Holy shit, chug city. I knew right then and there it was time for a new computer. :'(

i use that samsung as my work laptop. good for devs, but has a mediocre 1600x900 display. GET THE SAGER.
-
1600x900 is better than my 1366x768
Can you imagine doing design on 1366x768?
:-\ :yuck
-
DO YOU NOT SEE THE SAGER I POSTED. it has the BEST 1920x1080 display on the market, in 15.6". you can shave $300 off the price by removing the SSD boot drive and the matte version of the display, but i will hate you forever if you do that.
-
I've never really heard of Sager though. What's their rep? How's their customer service? ;etc
-
clearly you are not a geek
sager is a rebranded clevo, which is a very highly regarded taiwanese enthusiast laptop manufacturer. they make among the most powerful and reliable laptops on the market for GAME NERDZ, and unlike alienware, they don't tacky them up with glowy shit. the cases are boring and non-descript, but if you take one to, say, my place du emploi, you will get mad daps for not being an apple or alienware shithead.
their customer service is a++, they are a boutique brand so they rely on customer service
if maf was here and not getting raped by fat it dudes in orlando he would SMH at you

my fucking NETBOOK is by sager and beats the new macbook pros for game performance
-
yeah but does it have a RETINA DISPLAY
BOOM OWNED
/mactard

Mac OSX is what sells me on Mac more than anything. I just love it. I love the way you handle windows, I love the gestures and shortcuts that Windows laptops are still starting to implement. If it weren't for price they'd be so banger but Apple has to be loco so NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
-
I'm going with this:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Series-NP700Z5A-S0AUS-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B006R103MQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1339652756&sr=8-2
Will pick up after I get a new car in the next few months.
-
it's decent enough. i like my work machine as a work machine, but as a gaming machine -- well, it's about a macbook pro with that radeon 6750m :-\
-
runs fuckin' cool even with a full unit test suite chewin' up cpu, so that's something
-
It's still better than my 260m though, right?
In my case, my work machine kinda has to be a power machine. Not really powerful, but something that can hold its own and my current computer is not that right now.
-
no, it's about the same. the hardware is essentially a last-gen mbp with the last iteration of the sandy bridge line.
-
get the sager, then. the 670m in it is a beast (it's a rebadged 580m with smaller die and reduced heat). the ips 1080p screen is to DIE for -- as a graphic designer, you WANT that 90% gamut for color repro and the absurd contrast ratio and the glare-proof matte.
-
I'm watching reviews on the sager
-
googled sager NP9130 reviews and found MAF as a mod on some computer forum :rofl
-
my fucking NETBOOK is by sager and beats the new macbook pros for game performance
sorta related. is the glossy screen that bad on the np6110? xotic added a matte option but it's like $200 extra. weighting my options since it doesn't seem like any of these sites will have a higher res screen option.
-
sager is good but it doesn't have a glowing apple. i need that glowing apple.
-
my fucking NETBOOK is by sager and beats the new macbook pros for game performance
That's no netbook! :)
-
The best thing about the new Macbook Pro is the 16:10 ratio of the screen. Fuck 16:9 up the ass.
16:9 is cool with me for laptops, but for tablets it is wtf
-
my fucking NETBOOK is by sager and beats the new macbook pros for game performance
That's no netbook! :)
it's a netbook if saying it is one makes macfags feel diminished
-

bububububuubbuu that 11 inch screen
all that power and nothing to see it on

semantics aside is the screen black mirror glossy or some slight reflection?
(just looking at the dimensions it's closer to my old dell m1210 laptop than the hp mini netbook I owned)
-
glossy. :-(
