I want to learn how to play this game just so I can gut some whiteys and rebuild the Caliphate. :rock

I knew I should have bought this when it was 75% off on Steam. I remember reading somewhere how one guy had his wife executed because she was plotting to murder him and his children so she could inherit the kingdom.

It's supposedly not as hard as Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron, but I'm sure it's still ball-bustingly hard.

Europa Universalis isn't hard, per se, since you can just switch to another nation if your starting nation gets defeated. Individual goals can vary wildly in difficulty, though.
-
I don't know, but it does have all this:
Muslim rulers now playable
Updated interface to reflect the all new Muslim dynasty
Church window graphics (alerts and main screens) replaced with Muslim religious themes
20 Muslim specific event pictures
Map extension into Mali – new counties and titles
A Muslim dynasty decadence system
Polygamy – Muslim rulers can take up to 4 wives.
100+ new Muslim specific in-game events such as problems in the Harem, Shia vs Sunni tensions and making the Hadj
New and diverse combat tactics and commander traits

There is a Game of Thrones mod for it too

This game is fantastic, it's not as hard to get into as Europa Universalis, but it's hard. Once you get the basics down though you can play it and enjoy it. There's some great newbie and lets play videos on Youtube.
I started out as a Count in Dublin. Took over some land, married off my kids and collected taxes. The Bishops in my county hated me because I was lustful and the church hates that apparently. Uncovered a plot that my brother was trying to take over my land so I had him imprisoned. Eventually I was hit on the head in battle and rendered incapable. During this time my wife also passed away from the plague. So I decided to remarry, and one of the top choices was the second wife of my deceased father, who was 50 years his junior and produced a child for him 6 months after his death at 71. So I had the opportunity to be the step father to my step uncle.
I'm now playing as my grandson as my original heir died of stress at 31 :'( . Everyone in my realm hates me as I'm a young ruler with 2 female daughters as heirs. This all happened in about 30 years of gametime (1066-1095)

I bought this during the sale, so I guess I should actually try to play it at some point.

This is the first of the videos I watched.

He does a great job of explaining the core concepts in better detail than the manual or tutorial does. I watched probably 2-3 hours of them because I found them enjoyable as well as interesting.
It's really a game of other people's opinions of you, and how you can change and improve those opinions. My spymaster found out some guy was plotting against me so you can blackmail him and if he doesn't pay you 100 gold you can out him as a homosexual.

Despite the horrific learning curve here (which is still better than say EVE or Europe Universalis), the reward from learning it and getting stuck into the game is brilliant.
I'm currently the King of Ireland AND the King of Galacia. Although B-Rock "The Islamic Shock" keeps attacking me in Porto every 4 years for no good reason, and I can't defend it because my main kingdom is in Ireland and that's where all my troops are.
There's an incredible joy to be had of trying to revoke someones land title, having them revolt, then beating the piss out of them and sending them to prison. You could use your spymaster to plot against him to send him a threatening letter to get him to give up his land, but seeing their stupid face in the portrait behind bars is wonderfully cathartic.
