Nah, it's cool that they give the option for team or single play. Skullgirls does this too (actually Skullgirls allows for single, tag, or 3-man teams).

Stuff like that, plus DLC-gate, basically killed the game. Capcom is still working to support it- they finally patched the Rolento bug and they are nerfing the gems, along with finally releasing the DLC characters on the 31st, but people have already given up on it. Online is a wasteland and the EVO tournament was an afterthought. I hope the stuff on the 31st generates interest again 'cuz I like the game too.
But meanwhile TTT2 just looks totally fuckin' awesome and is like the anti-SFxTK in terms of content. Why are you trashing a game you haven't played, MAF? :-\

Because there are no disadvantages to being a single character, you can easily stand a chance against a team. The whole point of Tekken Tag Tournament is the tag dynamic, you have to play the game completely differently and develop strategies based on teamwork. With a single character, all of this is unnecessary and it ruins a lot of what makes the game unique. It would be like letting you choose 1 character in MvC who has 3x the strength of a normal character. Play Tekken 6 if you want to do single matches.
Anyway, this game is mad fun if you do co-op team battle. Not many arcades have it set but the ones that do are fantastic.

Yeah, going by that moon-speaking game modes trailer, online co-op looks mad fun. I *really* hope their netcode is up to snuff this time and we won't have to go through another patching BS. SC5 had a decent netcode, but then again so did SC4 and the T6 team didn't benefit from Project Soul's expertise.

Soulcalibur V's netcode is some of the best out there, especially on 360. If Tag 2 uses the same netcode, it's gonna be fantastic online.

I'd personally go for a pickup rather than delivery since the bonuses can take up to 2 business days to be emailed. I've never tried ordering from them though, so exercise caution.
But keep in mind that neither stores nor the online shop have updated their databases with the swimsuit bonuses, but they should be included.

Remember to get everything at launch, the game must be pre-ordered at Gamestop in North America. Other retailers have most of the content, but not everything.

Oh yeah, I picked up Tekken Hybrid from Best Buy for $10 last weekend. If you haven't seen the movie, DON'T- there's really no reason to get this, but I wanted to try the TTT2 prologue demo (noticeably better-looking than the TK6 console port- dat resolution) and play some Tekken Bowl.

No mini games have been announced. Would love to see Tekken Bowl return, but if not I'm cool with having it on Tekken Hybrid and also on iOS (it's free!).
If you want to waste ten bucks on Hybrid, do it today- the sale is over tomorrow.
Hybrid just contains the following:
-The craptacular Tekken CG movie
-Tekken Tag Tournament HD (no online play, feels dated as hell)
-Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Prologue (Arcade mode-only demo for TTT2. Has Alisa, Xiaoyu, Devil Kazuya, and Devil Jin as playable characters.)
Both games on the disc must be full-installed to be played (they show up in the PSN games folder), BUT you have to have the game disc in your system to play them. :lol ::)

So although I'm still hyped to the moon for this, let's get some of the negative visual points out of the way:
-The game apparently still runs at sub-HD resolution like Tekken 6 did.
-You cannot disable motion blur, so no higher-res "trick" like the 360 TK6 offered.
-The resolution actually drops down MORE when you have 3-4 characters on screen at the same time.
-Background animations/details are lost when playing online. For example, all of the people watching on the schoolyard stage are gone.
I don't mind the last point if it means smoother online play, and initial impressions are overall pretty positive. It's SCV-quality, which is REALLY good.
I've also played the TTT2 Prologue on Tekken Hybrid. It's a definite step up from TK6 and the character models look noticeably better. The game looks great. :)

I thought it was 720p and dynamically drops a level when an extra character appears on screen (four characters resulting in ~ +/-500p). If it's significantly lower than 720p with 2 chars on screen, it'll be disappointing.
Also, does it apply any AA by default? Disabling motion blur in the PS3 version of T2 added a 2xAA to slightly alleviate the jagfest.

I noticed the image quality in TTT2 on 360 is sharper than T6 on 360 but there is definitely more aliasing in TTT2. Turning motion blur off doesn't improve the image quality or bump up the resolution like it did in 360 T6.

Back from Gamestop. The store has a new manager and she would not stop pestering me about signing up for the rip-off rewards card the entire time. She even seemed to be agitated that I wasn't going to take up this totally fabulous offer!
It was really, really annoying and just another reminder of why I only go to Gamestop for those few exclusive things like the pre-order bonus. Even as the transaction finished, she asked me why I wasn't interested. I said "I just don't go to Gamestop enough for it to matter" and that finally got her to stop.
I had a nice stack of trade-ins that paid for both copies of the game and still had $35 left over that went towards DOA5 CE. Dreading having to go back there to get that game, but once I do it's buh-bye Gamestop again until whenever exclusive edition or bonus makes me go back.
On another note, she also kept hyping up the "Tekken 6/Soul Calibur V mash-up game," which is obviously a budget-priced collection pack, as a new fighting game. -_-

Fair warning to those who get the game on PS3- The install takes a loooooooooooooooooooong time. I'm glad it's mandatory this time, since TK6 PS3 uninstalled had horrific load times and idiots would play it without installing.
I just played a bunch of matches on 360. Online is definitely on par with Soul Calibur V...perhaps even better- I had a very smooth match against someone from the UK.
There's one guy playing the game offline on my 360 friends list, but my PS3 friends lists are dominated by people playing the game. Probably a safe bet to assume that the PS3 version is going to be much more popular.
Gonna try it on PS3 now.

I haven't seen anything that sticks out, but we have to wait for the "experts" to put it under the microscope. Regardless of its resolution, the game still looks a lot nicer than Tekken 6 did. The character models have been redone for the better.
I wish games like this came out on everything- a PC version and a Vita version with cross play would be awesome.
And LOLOLOLOL at the character creation system...in a good way- There's multiple slots available per character AND a full color palette for adjusting colors. It's like they looked at everything SFxTK did wrong and made sure TTT2 did it right. :lol

OK, I take that back- get it on 360. Even installed, the PS3 version has noticeably-longer load times and even has to load stuff like the outfit select on the character select screen. :yuck
It looked like there were more jaggies too, but I did play the 360 version on my 22" ASUS monitor and the PS3 version on my 42" Panasonic.

So yeah, after an extended amount of play time with the PS3 version, it's a bit disappointing- the game stopping to load on any character with an outfit other than their default is incredibly annoying. It just keeps loading more than the 360 version -noticeably so- and breaks up what should be a smoother experience.
Since my main PSN account registers itself as Japanese, I deleted my save data and will be playing under my alt "lyteedge2" account- add me if you added me to "lyteedge" before and want to play.
Currently-reinstalling the game to see if something went wrong the first time, but right now...360 version is better.

The guide sucks...you're not missing anything. They couldn't even bother to put the characters in alphabetical order. No, instead the guide divides itself up by AUTHOR, then the characters in order based on who wrote what strategies for them. It's fuckin' distinguished mentally-challenged.

I haven't checked out training mode yet. It will demonstrate moves for you though. I believe there is at least one challenge mode of some sort...ghost battle mode is back, too.

You can buy a fightpad. I use it on PS3 too...way more comfortable to use and the button set up works better. Why do people act like the stock controller is the only thing available for use? ???

It's cringe-worthy during win poses on PS3. I need to try the 360 version on my HDTV and see if it looks as bad on the bigger screen.

Playing Ghost Battle is the fastest way I've found to unlock stuff. I got about 1.7 million gold, unlocked more parts for the character edit, more portraits and intro backgrounds, and got two endings unlocked after just 11 matches.
Hilarious endings...was also surprised how long Lili's ending is.

OK, so clearly just picking characters and mashing through the arcade mode stops at the last boss. It's time to learn a few things and try again.
I'll try arcade mode today maybe, but I'd rather just keep playing ghost battle mode and online instead.

I think I've found my main team in Anna and Nina. Too good!
But I'm also really liking Kunimitsu (I did some INSANE attack dodging in one match...it was unreal) and Jaycee.
I consider myself to be very much a beginner-level Tekken player. IMO the most important things to learn first are movement (learn how to step-cancel ASAP) and pokes for the characters you like. Counters too (they're easy!)
Hit up guides/forums to get the character's best special moves and start from there. Once you get comfortable with the moves, start adding a bit onto the end to make your combos longer. It's pointless to try and learn huge, long combo strings in the beginning. And forget those dumb 10 hit combos. Nobody uses them.

The bosses (and CG endings) are in Arcade. There are three boss battles, starting at stage 6 (or 7?).
I also agree about Fight Lab, it's slightly masturbatory, and I'm hoping it's just the Prologue. I just want to get to the challenges more quickly and start purchasing moves for Combot.

Tried Arcade Mode on normal difficulty. I initially used Nina solo and after a few matches, got beat a few times by a Ghost Kazuya/Anna team. I switched to team and used the sure-fire spambot Alisa. Took all of the bosses out with ease. True Ogre and Unknown are nowhere near as bad as the Tekken 6 boss was. They were cakewalk.
If they're giving you trouble, put Alisa as your second and spam the hell out of her b, b 3+4, 3+4 attack. You can follow it up with df+3, 3, 3~ or d+1+2 for more damage. I used that to destroy the CPU and got Nina's ending, a custom item, and 2 million gold. Not bad for about 10 minutes.

All the unlock keys released so far are going to be released for download later on, but they haven't said when.
Next up should be the remaining locked stages and the unlock keys for next set of "DLC" characters.
It also just hit me that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Prologue has schoolgirl Xiaoyu, schoolgirl Alisa, transformed Devil Kazuya, and transformed Devil Jin-- neither of the females seem to have those outfits in TTT2 and neither Devil character looks the same as they do in the prologue, which was based on the CG movie. Interesting.

We decided to grind for customization money so he hit up Arcade mode, HOLY SHIT were the final bosses tossing his salad. Apparently the difficulty setting does NOT affect arcade mode, which throws opponents at you at difficulty levels that match the character's ranking.
Meaning: He plays a really mean Lili and jumped up a couple ranks on my profile, so all his Arcade mode opponents were freaking beasts. So if I ever play as Lili I'm just gonna get pooped on :(

I had no trouble with Unknown...I'm telling you guys- pick Alisa as one of your characters and SPAM her b, b 3+4, 3+4 and its follow-ups like df+3, 3, 3. I beat the shit out of the bosses, easy. Remember that the first character you pick is whose ending you get...so just use Alisa as a partner and spam spam spam spam those fucking AI bastards to death.
Forget about arcade mode for grinding anyway. You only get a shitload of money for beating it the first time. Ghost Battle is the fastest way to get cash, and even then as you rank up, the bonus reward matches get fewer in number.
What really SUCKS is that every character has clothing that MUST be unlocked from winning the gold reward battles...and getting this stuff appears to be random. It's taking forever to get everything for even just one character.

I have to use two accounts because my main account is Japanese...now that I live back in the States, some games (pretty much only happens with fighting games) think my region is Japan because of my account and will attempt to match me up with players in Asia instead of North America. Used to just be a Capcom thing, but now it's happening with Namco...Soul Calibur V didn't do this though.

Just had a fighting game hate mail first in TTT2- I play some random guy in quick battle. He's pretty awful at first and I win two rounds just hitting him with low attacks. Then he learns to block and ends up winning.
This is followed by some stupid, obscenity-filled hate mail and I end up responding to him with the classic SF2 movie "what was the greatest moment of your life was just Saturday for me" line and block him.
Then I run into the guy in quick battle again. This time he plugs in a mic and spends the entire match angrily repeating his hate mail and saying "just Saturday for you, HUH?!?!?" over and over again. He calls me a spammer. I have Alisa and spend the match obliging him, just doing a few basic moves, listening to the hate on the other end get louder. Wish I could have recorded the audio. I lost it when he started running into Alisa's missile arm attack multiple times, LOL.

Yeah...I played this game last night at my buddy Leguna's house after having played DOA5 all week. TTT2 is definitely the better game. My friend's brother was getting all into TTT2 after not having played Tekken since 5. We went back to DOA5 and it just seemed like an unfinished game in comparison. TTT2 offers so much more. I don't hate DOA5 but I wish they had delayed it and added more polish. The game still plays well though.

Tag2 has had enough presence in the arcades and lots of the hardcore players won't buy the console versions because there's apparently some slight lag that they keep bitching about. I can't notice the difference but I'm no pro. DOA5 has always been strong in Japan and there's no other way to play it.
Still a goddamn crime, though.

Ghost Mode is the only way to unlock everything AFAIK. Arcade Mode only gives you endings, which you can unlock in Ghost Mode anyway.

Does it unlock the movies as well? It's my favorite thing to do since the PSX games.
Also, this game in co-op (offline/online) is tittttttttieeeeeees. My only gripe is that Ghost Mode doesn't allow pair play and pair play mode doesn't rank your characters up or unlock items.

A friend brought this over last night and promptly got to drunk to remember to bring it home with him, so I've been playing all day. Pretty darn fun. Having some issues understanding/execcuting the tag mechanics, but everyone I play with are hammering on buttons because sparkly colors, so it's not a big deal.
Can you unlock more characters by doing stuff? Unknown, Devil, etc?

There are no hidden characters to unlock. Kazuya can transform into Devil...it's one of his moves. Unknown is going to be released in the next update, alongside Dr. B. and Violet.
And I'm definitely glad that the last patch greatly-reduced the outfit selection load times on PS3. It feels much more playable now. 360 is still better though.

I literally held off on customizing my characters because of how long it took to load that screen, but now I've finally started spending that gold. I wish the next update would further improve it, but for now this will do.

They need to make an update to address how fuckin' long it takes to unlock character-specific custom parts.
I spent a lot of time in ghost battle and I STILL don't have the one outfit set I want (Michelle's wrasslin' gear). It's ridiculous.

You get custom parts/outfits for the character(s) that you beat in the gold-box ghost battle matches. So if you play against Jin/Kazuya, you'll get something for either one of them or possibly both.
This is really annoying since this means you have to first wait to play against the specific character you want to unlock stuff for, then hope that when you win you get the parts you want for him/her.

It's not a bad game by any means, but I don't feel a desire to commit to it whatsoever, and since it requires so much input memorization and muscle memory, there's not much there for me as a casual fan. I think the worst thing I can say about it is that it's not-at-all intuitive, adding significantly to the challenge of n00bs getting over the learning hurdle and playing "correctly", so to speak. Or at least, old men with limited short-term memory.
And frankly, every time I play it, I'm just overwhelmed with a desire to be playing VF5:FS instead. :smug

TBH if you like VF5, chances are you'll like DOA5.
I consider myself a casual 3D fighting game player too...DOA has always been better for casual play. 5 also addresses a lot of the flaws from the last game.
I think Soul Calibur V is also easier to get into as well.

I do want to give DOA5 an honest shot. I randomly watched a tournament stream around when it came out and it seems pretty fun. I love the flow and pace of it, and it's a vibrant, beautiful-looking game.

I can understand how this game can be overwhelming, especially when the urgency of juggles dawns on you when playing online, but to say it's not intuitive is a bit much. I think it's one of the most fluid and intuitive 3D fighters out there. Any casual can pick up the controller and enjoy almost any character, but again, it only lasts until juggles halts all the fun lol.

Shaka, games like Soul Calibur and Dead Or Alive are much, much easier to pick up and play than Tekken.

I don't think it's very intuitive at all. To clarify, I think it's just a learning curve hurdle and not something that's fundamentally wrong with the game.
For example—and feel free to correct me if I'm totally off base here, you've all undoubtedly put far more time into this series than I have—the inputs and their corresponding moves don't seem to correlate very much character-to-character; there's not an overarching set of "rules" that someone can grasp and use to assist in figuring out how to play one character after gaining a familiarity with another—beyond memorizing the movelist, of course.
Contrast with Soul Calibur, where inputs and strings don't vary wildly, and similar inputs net similar attacks from most of the cast. Not everything correlates, of course, but it does present a general, intuitive set of "rules" that at least gives you the opportunity to try things without returning to the movelist (essentially, mashing without mashing). And the result is that it takes you less time to get to the advanced stuff because you've begun already familiar with the fundamentals.
(Granted, Soul Calibur is much more committed to what any given button does, where left-punch/right-punch doesn't necessarily mean much of anything.)
. . . And I think that lends to explain in part why those huge Tekken juggles are so outrageously daunting. And the complication of the matter is compounded when you're swapping between two characters rather than one. And so on.

I think Tekken at this point has groups of characters that play similarly to one another, but to me it's really no different than the way other 3D fighters play. I think VF5 is still a much harder game to master. Namco fighters tend to have some awkward move inputs...SCV simplified some things, but TTT2 remains the same.

They do. The "DLC" characters are all on the disc and are just like the rest of the characters. They have endings, too.

Got this during the XBL Games on Demand sale. So far I've only played through arcade mode once (Law & Alisa). The final boss is waaaaay easier than the one from Tekken 6.
Btw, I didn't know Alisa was considered cheesy. I loved using her in T6. :lol
