Going with your friends to play Mortal Kombat two, and then getting owned by some loser who spent 6-7 hours in the arcades and knew how to block every single one of your moves?
blah whatever, sad to see that my favorite arcade 2 months ago FINALLY go shitbinned...literally I saw it closed, and I was like damn I'm old. But at time same time it was like, wow remember the good times.
So yeah remember some good times at the arcade?

I like arcade gameplay - the time limits, fast paced action, and many gameplay elements that are hard to reproduce in the home but arcades have always been nothing more than mcirotransactions in my eyes. I've never seen the appeal of paying 50 cents for a game when you had the chance of losing at it, but then I'm not much of a gambler in the first place.
Other than that, I love the general atmosphere of arcades. The lines, the prizes...docking your quarter on the machine to save your spot. I love that crap.
It's one of the reasons I'm so adamant on online fighters. DOAU set the bar HIGH for me. I mean, a mic, online play..it was like a virtual arcade and made me nostalgic.

I remember me and my friends spent all day beating Turtles in Time once...fuck man that shit took a LOT of money.
-
Arcades have never been a part of my life. I remember playing some stuff at Chuck E Cheese a bunch of times though.

What about Discovery Zone? :o

One of the reasons I bought a Wii at launch was for THE POSSIBILITY OF LIGHTGUN GAMES.
I'm such a goddamn whore.

I remember not having enough MONEY for arcades and wandering them like some sort of street urchin

I would always look under the machines for dropped quarters :lol

Arcades are something we'll tell our kids about and they'll think we're crazy.
-
I remember being barely tall enough to see the screen and beating everybody's ass at street fighter 2.
"LOL U suck"
my childhood was fullfilling.
I always thought of them as the place your mother drops you off while she goes shopping, you know.
I always played MK more but never got good at it, shitty fighting system.
I played for blood and tits.
fufu style.

Arcades taught me that side scrolling beat 'em ups are fuck awesome

There are some good arcades around here, you just gotta know where to look

I can walk down the street to a huge game center and play tons of racers and all the newest gun shooters and fighting games...stuff like Virtua Fighter 5, Tekken 5 DR, Arcana Heart, Metal Slug 6, Time Crisis 4, Melty Blood Act Cadenza, Initial D 3, Beatmania 2932939232 mix, Half-Life 2 Survivor, etc.
But even here, I've noticed that a lot of traditional coin-op games are being taken away in favor of betting and gambling-style games, plus they've started adding PCs with MMORPGs.
Also Gundam...jesus fuck there's gun shooters, action-shooters, VR-style sims, and of course the betting games. Last time I was there, there was a CROWD gathered around one of the light gun games.

We used to have an arcade called "world of games" downtown, and I would skip school and spend the day there.
I'm about to show my age.
Gorf
Discs of Tron
Missle Command
Tempest
Elevator action.
Those would largely consume my time there.

Yeah. I went to a Gameworks once. I played Dance Dance Revolution and I had a blast playing against my sister for a high score but I never really played the game again after that. Don't know why but I suspect it's because I'm never like, "I'm bored, let me head down to the ARCADE!"

Gorf
I held the world record for that game during a short period of time in the 80's. :-[

the arcade industry is still alive believe it or not (not in the same context most of us remember it). it's changed drastically though, now the focus appears to be flipping licensed games and making them "arcade" playable. motion platforms and big budget control interfaces are the new craze as well. just take a look at a place like dave & busters. it's the only way that the industry can differentiate itself from consoles. so get off your console owning asses and get out there and show some support!
i work for an arcade company so i had to throw a cheap plug in there. ;)

The arcade was my baby-sitter every saturday. The mall my mom went to in Texas had the biggest, most awesome arcade I have ever seen in my life.

Sounds like my life! I'd be dropped off at the Aladdin's Castle or Fernando's Fun Factory in Hawaii, and just spend hours bugging out. And like MAF, when I'd run outta quarters I'd just stumble around, hoping to find a free credit...
