I want a basset as a second dog, but my gf is vehemently against it.
I like bassets because I always hear a trombone playing when I see one walking.

They're incredibly awesome, but aren't for everyone. They're by turns exceedingly lazy, very loud, and drool a whole lot. Walking them is an annoyance, because they want to stop and smell every. damn. thing. they walk by. They also somehow smell like stale corn chips. Not sure how, but yeah.

Owning a basset hound is kind of a pain in the ass. I can't ever really let him run around in a non fenced in area, because if he smells something he'll just keep following it, even into traffic because he's stubborn and single minded when following a scent. Taking him to a dog park is the best, though- all he really wants to do is smell and pee on everything, doesn't like playing with other dogs. The only exception is if other dogs are getting too rowdy... then he'll run into the middle of them and start howling at the top of his lungs, like some sort of sawed off sheriff come to town, which is hilarious because the other dogs will scatter at first, then notice what spooked them and try to play with him, which he doesn't understand.

My dog is a Tibetan Terrier, she never asks to go out, but when we go it's ok with her.
Incredibly playful, she wants to play with every dog we meet, no matter what size.
Not really a people dog though, when I get out of bed in the morning she doesn't even roll off her back, unless some kind of meat product is in play.

My dog is definitely a people dog, and he's kind of a perv too, because any time he meets a new girl he totally tries to monopolize her attention. Flop down at their feet, roll over and demand belly rubs.

My dog gets stressed if she's not out for a bit. Like, chewing on my new headphones wires stressed out. She tore up almost everything in the backyard one day because I couldn't walk her or play with her for a few days due to work.
She's really skeptical of other dogs. She's a sweet heart, but if she hears a dog barking she will whimper. Anyone know what this is about? She'll whimper while barking. I've never heard a dog do this, but my dog does.
When it comes to people, she LOVES people. She's really friendly and loves sniffing your nuts when she meets you if you're a guy and she loves licking you.
One quirk she has is that she's a greedy little fucker. She does not play fetch. If I throw that rubber bone, she is keeping it to herself, dammit. And she'll put her paws over them if I get anywhere close to her while she has a toy in her mouth as a way to say that's MY toy. I have tried everything. I know she sees me as the alpha because she follows me everything and does everything I say. I even sometimes make her wait for her food until she's submissive by putting her food bowl (with food in it) behind me and not saying a solitary word while she stares at me, trying to get to the food. I don't budge and through this power struggle I gain dominance, time and time again. Yet she won't play fetch. Clearly this is something I need to teach her.

My dog will kick his back leg and whine if you're doing a good job petting/scratching/rubbing him. Fortunately I never see red rocket, so I know it's not gross in nature.

That's one of the reasons I like having a female dog: so I don't have to deal with dick and balls.
My dog doesn't act like she's having the time of her life if I give her a scratch or good petting. She just lets me do it, and then starts licking me in some obsessed way until my arm/clothes are wet.
My dog is like a cat dog. Aside from her tantrums during walks, she is like a total cat. She will be jumping on tables and shit outside and when you pet her she doesn't give a shit.
I love her but I only recommend a boxer or boxer mix if you're REALLY a dog person. She will fart, yawn, and more. She does not give a flying fuck about manners. Having a boxer type will really test how much you like canines.

Any dog with a smooshed in face (bulldogs, pugs, I guess boxers too) have really bad gas due to the way they breathe.

She'll drop the one she's playing with and go after the new one, you go and grab the first one from where she dropped it. Now when she does the same thing with the 2nd one, repeat. Eventually she'll realize that it's a game and you need to have it to play so she'll start to bring it back to you to keep the game going.

Our dog gets walked at least 2 hours every day. Plus playtime almost every day. She only gets /annoying on rainy days when we walk less.

not working. sometimes she doesn't drop the other toy bone and runs to the one with it in her mouth, she drops when she gets to the other bone, and then chooses her favorite bone of the two and then keeps playing by herself.
