Title: The mohawk comeback
Post by: Himu on July 29, 2012, 12:16:32 PM
Someone explain this.

Is punk making a comeback? I've noticed more punk-ish clothing styles recently, not to mention the mohawk. Like every boy I see these days wears tight ass jeans, a tight t-shirt, and is rocking a mohawk. Then I watch sports and see the same shit.

When did this become a thing? I'm especially shocked that they're usually black. When I was a kid, black kids would make fun of mohawks. It's also refreshing to see black people dressed as punkers.

young black and latino kids in nyc have been co-opting punk fashion for a few years now. they'll still listen to hip hop and not really go to punk shows (that i can tell) but have been taking the trappings of traditional and early 00s emo style for a while now.

i see a lot of black kids wearing misfits shirts blasting trap music through their ipods.

So Jay-Z will be wearing a Misfits hoodie and rocking a Mohawk in 6 months

Well I was rocking dreads up until 3 months ago, had them for 2 years. And I'm a pasty ass motherfucker. I generally dress hard rock, black, crazy shirts, studded metal and I did have a bit of a mohawk a few weeks ago.

I'm an advocate of soft curly mohawks. I've seen it expertly pulled on someone pretty, and now it's all I can think about.

I won't lie. I tried the mohawk for a month. I'm even sporting it in my mugshot. It's not a good look. For anyone.

Apparently mohawks make you smash cans against your head as well. Another reason not to have one.

On a tangent, I've been seeing some high top fades in the last year.  I'm completely psyched for this.

I saw one the other month at a graduation. I said no way, gave him dap and asked what made him do it.

One of the college kids who lives by me has one. I always do a double-take when I see him.

The # of people who own Misfits merch >>> The # of people who own any Misfits albums. Big time.

Yeah I'll be there.  The full line up is a good one

Action Bronson, Flatbush Zombies, Meyham Lauren, Tanya Morgan

It's first come first serve so you'll want to err on the side of "early" to make sure you can get in

Cool. Flatbush Zombies are the only ones I've seen before. I don't know if you know about Mad Decent Block Party, but I'll be there this Sunday also.

I actually forgot that was this weekend
Quote
Lineup:
Major Lazer
Erol Alkan
Bonde Do Role
Lunice
Riff Raff
Reptar
Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire
Baauer
Bosco Delrey
Zebra Katz
Kito
Paul Devro

If I go I will probably leave right after Erol Alkan as I LOATHE Major Lazer.  I will probably also wander off during Reptar and Riff Raff

Slaughterhouse and Pharoe Monch are playing Bushwick where I saw Cam'rom next week.  Tickets are kind of pricey, so I dunno if I want to go or not.

I think Made in America is the only other show I'll be paying for this summer. Money is tight. I need a 2nd job. Or a new steady job.
