For some reason despite listening to Homogenic approx. 72 million times over the last decade, I never bothered checking out any of her other records. Well thanks to the magic of Zune Pass, I just listened to Post and it's also great. This has been another great public service announcement thread.

Her first three albums are masterpieces. The later stuff is good, but not as high quality.
-
Bjork pls.
-
She displeases my ears.

Define 'masterpiece'. I wouldn't define any of her stuff as masterpiece.
My heart pumps deep venom into cold-gladdened heart,
Take you close tiding for the bitter sea that lies ahead.
Now let us fuck like to the the gods.
Those are probably lines from Spartcus or Rome. Both regarded as masterpieces by those who miss the second the.
-
"Rome" is pretty much the second-most inauspicious title a media industry production about Rome could possibly have, after "Gladiator"
-
I actually wrote out a longer post, but my power went. Losing a vastly important reply to you.
But yes, I agree.

So the first track of Medulla was pretty awesome and I was feeling all smug about how this was going to be another amazing album that your inferior taste just doesn't let you appreciate as much as I can, but then I listened to the rest and ... hmm. It's frustrating, there are some really cool moments here that kept making me anticipate something great but they never seemed to last. I don't think there were even any songs that drew me in overall other than track 1. OTOH there weren't any I could definitively say I didn't like either ... will have to try listening a couple more times I guess.

I never got through that album. All her previous albums were amazing to me, even if it took awhile to fully click. But years after release Medulla still puzzles and frustrates me
-
Man, I can't even imagine how obsessed I would've been if I'd actually heard Vespertine back when it came out and I was 19. I'd have built a shrine in my room for sure

Medulla is possibly one of the best albums ever
-
Medulla's greatest strength is that it was almost entirely constructed out of human vocals with only a few key instruments used for specific songs, which I found to be quite an achievement (i haven't listened to it in nearly a decade!). Even if the album was lacking as a whole. it did have a few great cuts which I still revisit from time to time but the one fault the album has besides some filler is that during the recording of the album, Bjork suddenly became interested in politics, which can be heard throughout the album and this interest eventually lead to her shitting out Volta and possibly the worst song she has ever recorded, Declare Independence.

best song on the album :bow2
also the video version with all the bell choirs is the best version of the song
-
it certainly has some very good songs

but overall I just feel confused
Maybe I should give it another spin.
-
Yeah, I haven't exactly decided that I don't like Medulla, I just don't get it atm. Will listen a few more times and see what I think
-
OK, listened to Medùlla again and I think the "weirdness" is sort of a red herring - it's not that weird, the real problem is I listened to it coming straight off of Vespertine and expected something as OMG wowie zowie as it, and track 1 is incredible (and kept my expectations up) but everything else is just good, not amazing.
-
It is now my opinion that Unison is one of the strongest closing tracks ever.

agreed, though it's not as good as this
