I've been running it fulltime at home since RP came out, do you have any questions in particular? There are a number of changes from Windows 7, of which by far the biggest and most important one is the ability to drag and drop from the breadcrumb bar in Windows File Explorer. There's also a new skin for the start menu which now comes with a new COM-based sandboxed plugin system

I'm guessing that's an elaborate Metro joke? :P

for reals, can you bring back Windows 7-style Start Menus with a registry hack or something?

Not even prole can defend the Metro start screen thing. It's pretty atrocious.

Anyway pulling this from Technet now. I've got a kick-around laptop I want to install the final version on.

i'm not gonna defend it; i'm just gonna suggest that you learn it. it's new. it has flaws. but it's something worth exploring before rejecting.

Honestly though, going back and forth between Win8 at home and Win7 at work, I don't really have any strong preference one way or the other. I mean I kind of like the new Explorer ribbon and the new task manager, and I kind of like pinning stuff to the new start screen and checking out tile updates and dicking around with some of the Metro apps, and yeah I'm occasionally mildly irritated by the new start screen too, but all of it has a pretty minor impact on me and none of it seriously excites or bothers me to have or not have - with the exception of drag and drop from the Explorer breadcrumb bar which I find CRAZY annoying to not have in 7,  :maf

What do you use this for? Wouldn't a copy+paste do the same if you're just trying to paste in a file/directory path?

You drag / drop stuff into the actual folders, not the paths. For whatever reason I find myself wanting to drag something up to one of its parent folders fairly often, and I'd rather not have to dig around in the navigation pane tree (which I tend to keep hidden) or open a new window and navigate back etc. Though speaking of copying paths, Win8 also puts a Copy Path button on the ribbon home tab (you can pin it to the QAT for use even with the ribbon minimized) which is marginally nicer than having to Shift-rightclick.

Yeah saw that; pretty useful stuff. Plus there's a shortcut for it! Speaking of; I'm okay with Explorer using the ribbon, but most of the shortcut keys I've been using since 95 have been obliterated.

Alt+F,W,F no longer works for making a new folder :( I have to slum it and use Ctrl+Shift+N.

Not too sure what this "Metro" might be ...  I was talking about Windows. One operating system, indivisible, with apps and drivers for all.   :american

saw this on the giantbomb quicklook and i'm not really feeling it at all, plus Metro looks cluttered as fuck imo. Also its pretty jarring not seeing the good ole start button.

I got the RC lying around somewhere so i should install it and do some digging of my own.

You can do it with these applications.

I personally can't go back to the regular start menu.

My issue is that none of the new functionality looks like anything that interests me or helps me in any real sense.
