NOTE: This was originally going to be the Book Club episode, but Arian and Robert couldn't make the show this time.
Doug and Kevin start the show off by peering into their navels in an attempt to get to the root cause of their current gaming lethargy/apathy. (note: some of this has been covered on the show before)
46:45 Doug reviews the Nintendo 3DSXL
56:00 Doug and Kevin become Nexus 7 buddies
1:12:00 New Super Mario Brothers 2
1:14:00 Darksiders 2
-
Only a 9 minute 3DSXL review but a 16 minute Nexus 7 review? I smell a bias.
-
we both own the nexus!
-
there's not much to say about the 3ds xl other than "it's a 3ds. only kinda worse."

I wonder if we have to sign an NDA for that Weeeooooo thing we're going to, Prole. That would suck.

Fuck yes! I was real close to making a thread asking when the next podcast would be.

boggle- good cast btw- the discussion about being kinda outta gaming right now was very even handed; UNEXPECTED FROM A CRUNCHEON

I kinda want a nexus. Are the new notifications stuff and Google Now or whatever cool?
-
google now is pretty cool, kind of like Siri on iOS

Listened to your podcast.
I definitely agree that gaming has taken a nose dive. To me, the PS2 was the best gaming platform ever as it had the sheer quantity and quality of software that hasn't been replicated since (sorry, the DS isn't remotely close). Even if gaming does end up swirling down the toilet, there are hundreds of games available via MAME or PCSX2 or all kinds of past platforms out there that won't be going away. Even if the next gen turns out to be crap and the indie scene gets tiresome, there's still a wealth of options out there.
-
I agree completely, you can still enjoy gaming even if the industry is in the pits- its just more work on our end. There's plenty that has been released worth playing. Doesn't mean this is a time for everyone to hang up their controllers, just need to go about things differently. However, if a person is just tired of gaming in general, and the current industry climate is simply not HELPING that larger issue- might be time to take a step back and look into your other interests.

What is there to really say about it? It's the same old 2D Mario with mediocre level design and an emphasis on coins.

To be fair i'd rather play NSMB2 than the next Modern Warfare game

Call Of Duty multiplayer is fun with friends. I guess NSMB2 would be too, but nobody wants to play it.

Bump.
I forgot this was out. I'd like to hear what these curmudgeons think about the Nexus 7.
