Title: Sony, just gtfo.
Post by: Tasty on August 22, 2012, 03:47:54 PM
"PS4 to support 4K resolution" (http://news.yahoo.com/sony-playstation-4-support-4k-resolution-161003188.html) ::)

99% sure this fake but if it's true, there goes every single dev not named EA or Activision next gen.

Sony always dreams/shoots big with new console launches then removes most of those features from future revisions. Been happening since the PS2. Don't know why they'd do something like this which is guaranteed to inflate the price of their machine when their financial state is a bit perilous though.

I'd love to have 4K resolution, but it's not going to happen anytime soon.

Does this mean 2K is going to suffer 2x the losses they already do?

Lol I think 4K would be awesome, but I don't know what they're thinking. "Well, throwing everything and the kitchen sink into the Vita worked out well! Let's do it again for PS4!"

lol. Scared to post this on the other board, Andrex?

I did post this on the other board. Mine.

Oh you meant GAF.

No one will create their games at 4K res you silly goose, just like how rarely anyone touches 1080 on consoles these days. If this is really happening it's only going to benefit movie playback for an undetermined amount of time.

I'll take 1080p for starters, then we can talk 4k.

4K is going to cost so much.  Not only will I need to buy a new TV, but new contacts as well just so I can see the difference.

Geez you guys sound like Sony are mandating all games to run at 4k resolutions @ 0.5 fps with -34FSAA.

Andrex I love you for giving me a GW2 beta key but it takes a real tech-caveman-ninthing to think 4K is possible next gen.

LOL we can't even fucking render a proper 720p framebuffer at 60fps

Uh we could back in 1984 when glQuake 1 launched?
Not with the amount of grafiks* devs like (need) to push these days.

I imagine a 4K game running at 60FPS on a potential PS4 will resemble a PS1 game if made.

why would this be a surprise to anyone ?

4K tv's have been rolling out here and we already have the "4K"  Bluray content hitting NOW.

A couple of games will probably try and support it , but hey - hurrah for options!

As per shaka - this is going to be for movie playback support and picture viewing in the main.

Its just marketing fluff for the next new tech and a bulletpoint to add to their box (even if it doesn't do it exactly).

Given Sony's hard on for new tech stuff i would have expected some new Disc format but luckily they "won" with Bluray.  :lol

there is nothing to stop lower grade games supporting 4K but given the timing games aren't going to support 4K natively in the main.

It's an option - if it's a supported resolution and they throw enough (FAST) GPU ram and enough GPU/CPU power into the machine then it's possible to have games at 4K. BUt.... the driver is there's no point. How many people will have 4K tv's in the next 2 years? I'd expect it to hit the apex around 4-5 years when the content and games are there and then we get pressure on panel costs downwards.

That said - a 4K projector? oh my cock.

4K projector I could get behind, but finding content would be the hard part. But if you have a RED camera it could be pretty cool.

As i say, 4K players and 4K Content is rolling out -now- in Japan. It has started.

Also , even a sub-GMR (Glorious Master Race) PC is going to spew out 4K level resolutions.

but yeah, if i could get a reasonable 4K Projector? Mr Spunky is off to Myshorts town.

I dont think that 4k resolutions are necessary, id much rather has better textures and geometry in my games than what i cant really see at a distance.

I think some people are misinterpreting the title.

It isn't, Sony gtfo with technology.

More like, Sony, get the hell out of here. :lol Considering the Vita and all.

Incredulity, that's the word.

Whatevs. ::)

I don't think you will see any difference unless you buy a really large TV and sit fairly close to it.

seems a bit ridiculous. When I go to the cinema I sit halfway, and that's where the premium seats are too, not up front where it fills your entire range of vision.

4K is actually what the early RED cameras recorded in. It'll be weird if we ever move past that, would we just upscale those movies? I mean, we couldn't "remaster" them like we do with old movies and Blu-ray.

Honestly, 8K (I think that's what TGWTDT and TSN are) already looks amazing to me, but it may just be the shock effect of not having grain. If everything were digital, and then 16K came out, I wonder if I'd notice.

1080p TVs actually have more detail than people can make out based on how far back from it they usually sit.

Ninthing internet population seem to be pretty upset with this (non)news.I guess it comes to non spinable bullet point, either you support 4K or you don't.Modern GPUs can do that, the rest is just in output standard.

Remedy has said something too
