Next week’s Metal Gear 25th anniversary event at Tokyo Midtown will be full of “a lot of exciting announcements,” according to Kojima Productions Report podcaster Ken Mendoza, speaking on the latest recording of the podcast.
And these will be big. At least, according to Chris Johns, who works alongside Mendoza.
“A lot of things to look forward to next week,” said Johns, “not just for fans, but I think the industry’s gonna be shook by what we’re going to be able to present here.”

MGS4: Kinect Edition

Konami making a game is pretty shocking itself

Please stop with the MGS. Do something else.

Because it's not by Kojima.

Kojima will shock the world by announcing a good MGS game.
The only real stinker in the Metal Gear universe is MGS2 for me.(Not counting portable outings for now)
-
Please stop with the MGS. Do something else.
Fuck off
Kojima will shock the world by announcing a good MGS game.
Some one didn't play GOTY 2012 Peace Walker.
-
Peace Walker is my favorite Metal Gear game. :heart
-
I think MGS fans have moved on...
-
Fuck off
Thats the best you got? Sorry man the series kind of sucks these days.
Some one didn't play GOTY 2012 Peace Walker.
You mean the HD version. The version that makes a bad playing game worse? Man I'm so happy that this game now has the ability to aim and basically makes the game the easiest thing ever.
I think MGS fans have moved on...
You'd think so and I would sure hope so. But MGS fans really like 4 and PW. They also want more prequels for some odd reason so that they can add useless information and over detail thinks leading to new aspects of characters that shit on what happend before.
-
You should post all that on gaf.
-
I love the MGS series but I'm just about done with it. I don't care about Big Boss and I don't think I'd want to see where a story continuing from 4 would go. New IP from Kojima please.
-
You should post all that on gaf.
I have. And I didn't get a defense there either.
-
I want more of the Snatcher/Policenauts side of things before Metal Gear main universe to be honest.
-
I want more of the Snatcher/Policenauts side of things before Metal Gear main universe to be honest.
Yeah that would be awesome, and now is the time to do it since "cyberpunk" seems to be in.
-
more Z.O.E. please.
Kojima desperately needs an editor.
-
Another overhyped conference? I think so!
-
Don't care. Kinda done with MGS.
-
Metal Gear Solid has always been shit.
-
The studios he is creating in America were recruiting at GDC. I have never seen more Fanboys outside of a convention in my life.
Their recruiting process looked every bit as fucked up as I would expect from a Japanese company attempting to make an American studio and still keep it under Japanese levels of control.

Social Ops is an awesome troll

This is an even better one

Everyone should just assume that every Japanese countdown or event is just leading to a subpar mobile/iOS annoucement.
-
Showing off Fox Engine now.
-
Konami are the next big "gaming crash" victims
-
Won't affect them, they just make watches now.

Metal Gear Sold: Ground Zeroes announced

Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes demo was truly amazing, running on a PC at current-gen specs. Wow. #mg25

PC gaming wins again

OMG OMG IT LOOKS AMAZING COCK PICS
OK guys, leak this turd already. I don't need to read about your wet dreams.

Another MG? That's too bad.

is this metal gear solid or a new metal gear franchise
-
If they can have a bit of the cinematic feeling + open world this could be good.
Unless its Konami trying to catch up to open world games like we knew them 10 years ago.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zero. Console Metal Gear Sold title in an open world setting.
Looks like post-Peace Walker Big Boss.
First Metal Gear Solid Ground Zero Artwork
Open world game targets current generation platforms. Kojima Productions also working on next generation development.
Famitsu.com posted a first piece of artwork from Metal Gear Solid Ground Zero, the Fox Engine game that was revealed at today's Metal Gear anniversary event. Check out the image below.
According to Famitsu.com's report, Metal Gear Solid Ground Zero is the name of the real time demo Kojima Productions showed at the event. But it is also being made into an actual open world game.

looks amazing, set penors to hard
-
I hope Kojima directs it so fanboys can't blame anyone else when it turns out crappy
-
I don't know why people are so down on the Metal Gear series. Sure, the plot is a contrived mess and the poop jokes feel a bit out of place, but they're still incredibly fun to play. Except for Peace Walker, which I gave up on after 20 minutes because of the controls, I've enjoyed every single game in the series.
-
Well, it's true that Konami mostly suck these days and it's a shame that they've lost the competence to make good Suikoden games.
-
Even if Kojima directs and it does turn out crappy, everyone will praise it as being ultra-awesome anyway. It's Metal Gear, the hobby's biggest blind spot.
Which is why I'm taking everything today with the biggest grain of salt ever. Can't trust anyone with this series.
-
Oh shit I'm at school what did they announced?
-
A movie, a mobile game, and a real game. Anything else?
-
Don't really care for open world games, so I'm kinda worried how they'll use it for an MG type game.
Oscar, a lot of people who were fans of 1 but not too keen on 2 ended up loving 3. It's definitely got a more grounded (in relative terms) storyline, less focus on cutscenes, and more on gameplay - more interesting level designs, great conceptual boss fights, survival/camouflage elements. Unfortunately, the interface for changing camouflage or healing your wounds is a bit sluggish. I'd definitely recommend you give it a chance, though. And I recommend you stay away from 4 like the plague :P
-
Sheeeeit! Guess I gotta buy an Android now!
-
So there's no live video online of this? Withholding judgment until I see it
-
I can never get into these games, I always buy them thinking maybe if I just give it another go something will happen- but nope. Dont get the fuss- not for me- etc...
-
Kojima game = it's gonna sux

heinous lies. MGS3 has way too much story bullshit, the control scheme really shows it's age and just conceptually it's really different from MGS1/2 which were all series of big, angular boxes for you to sneak through. MGS1/2 are much better, and more similar to one another in my opinion. MGS3 had a more grounded story, but it's still batshit, and it's still poorly written, and it's still way too over-exposed. The additional survival mechanics weren't enough to carry the game and the controls really holds the game back with regards to it's more open and organic level design, this isn't even touching on the camera in the first iteration of MGS3.
MGS3 with MGS4 controls would have been a pretty great game.
-
MGS3 doesn't have that much story bullshit. The middle has the best story:gameplay ratio in the series, to the point where a lot of fans cried and wailed.
But yes, MGS1 and 2 are better.
-
You guys are making me wish I hadn't bought the HD collection. :-\

You guys are making me wish I hadn't bought the HD collection. :-\
Eh, MGS3S and Peacewalker are good games. Couldn't get into MGS2 and MGS4.
I still like MGS1 the best.
Wish Kojima would make something else or even go back to something like Snatcher and Policenauts.
-
I loved MGS3 so much that I am willing to give anything Kojima pumps out a second or third look, nevermind how badly scorned the time before.
Basically the Sonic cycle, enhanced with nanomachines.
-
I'm kind of iffy about an open world MGS game but it could end up being awesome. I'm a big fan of the series (even 4 outside of story bullshit) so I can't wait to see more of this.
I still need to play PW though.
-

MGS3 is one of my favorite games of all time, and I'm not a big MGS fan or anything.

I bought that boktai thing on 3ds called Lunar knights. Pretty damn awful.
-
lunar knights DID suck; boktai was some fun and charming games

This is me.
MGS3 is like top5 games of all time to me. I can play it over and over and over again with the Subsistence camera. Near-perfect game.
So even though MGS4 was poop in the mouth and MGS2 on replaying is kind of boring these days and the controls in Portable Ops are awful and the story in Peace Walker sucks...I will still give the MGS games a chance. MGS3 is just that good. Makes MGS1 look like ZoE1.
-
MGS3 is pretty boner. But I like MGS2 more for speed runs. MGS3 mechanic wise is superior, but too long, and too fucking slow.
If they decreased the alert time in Subsistence version it'd be better.
-
we didnt get boktai 3 in english tho :fbm
-
Metal Gear Solid 3 is the best game ever made.
-
Footage to be on youtube in 5.5 hours
open world :drool
-
:hyper
since there "won't be game overs" in this game I hope you actually play as BB's mercenarys and have to go out and recluit more when they are killed, or instead of dying, Snake gets KO'd when his health bar empties and you get capture, you can become weaker the more damage you take like in RE :hyper

Holy shit.
-
MGS3 is the best MGS game. anyone who says otherwise isn't a real MGS fan. come at me, you cunts.
I'm not going to comment on MGS4.
But I will say that I swore to not be drawn into the hype during the initial MGS announcement fest.
But I'm failing thanks to this footage.
However, I am no longer a consolefag so I truly hope this see's a PC release.
-
ZzZzZzZz
where's the whimsy manggg
-
Oh it's a Peace Walker sequel and another Big Boss adventure. Well that sucks and is the exact opposite of what I want from Metal Gear. Well that killed my excitement. Nice graphics though.
-
:-\ stop taking my money konami
-
looks like its basically Peace Walker 2 story wise.
I'll check it out
-
Good characters, plastic rocks, no gameplay
Call me once it's out
-
FUCK MY FACE KOJIMA!!!!!!!
-
:bow Fox Engine :bow2
:bow Kojima Productions the only developers still worth a damn in Japan :bow2

Suck my cock oscar snake can drive!!!!
-
an open-world game gives my simple mind hope that it'll be less story bs and more sneaking and shooting, but i'd be a lot more excited if this had been outsourced to a competent developer rather than made in-house
-
That trailer looks boring for someone burned out on MGS. Looks like same old, same old.
Will play it when it's out. Maybe it'll be the next MGS3 since MGS3 was more open-gameplay focused and turned out incredible in the gameplay & story department.
-
I think liking metal gear games should be considered a mental illness. There is so much shit you have to gnaw through to get to the small amount of corn that's there. I'm not getting fooled again.
-
Looks like shit.
-
this bitch so mad
-
FUCK YOU HIMU DAMN IT!!!!!!
-
Looks like shit.
I thought maybe some of the enviorments looked like they were out of unreal, but I mean the character models were great. Then again that was the same thing with 4.
-
Looked great, glad Paz is still in there
-
Not a MGS fan at all but that trailer looked great.

Plus dat twist

Looks like shit.
So 'A Hideo Kojima Game', then. 8)
-
Allow me to be a MGS fanboy for a second , that got me more excited than anything at E3.
Since it seems sorta open world (maybe?), I hope they dont pull the whole globetrotting thing like in MGS4. I like it better when all the areas are connected.
-
It is open world and your post actually brings up a good point. I really hated the globe trotting thing in MGS4. I always liked that in MGS1-3 the feeling of progression you got from the world and how you would become firmiliar to it. I assume be being an open world game, it will stay in one world and yeah that could be good.
-
Looked like shit because it's 9 minutes of cinema wank, 2 minutes of gameplay.
The actual gameplay looks like traditional MGS, though, so that's a good sign. But on the other hand, who wants more "traditional MGS?" Do something new.

Dude in walkthrough of demo said you can fly to different countries. Staying in one location is done. MGS4, PW, all feature that international bullshit.
-
So the traditional mgs gameplay is good but also bad because they need to do something new, but the Militaires Sans Frontières going around the world instead of staying in the same base like in the old games is bad.
got it himu.
-
Staying in the same base isn't bad. But when I think of 'open world" I think of one continuous location. Not taking a helicopter across the world to another base. I prefer Metal Gear games to take place in one location.
Also, going around the world in MGS ISN'T new. 4 and PW did that.
-
If they do it like in PW then it will be new for a console MGS.
-
If they do it like PW it will be shit.
Kind of like PW.
-
Dude in walkthrough of demo said you can fly to different countries. Staying in one location is done. MGS4, PW, all feature that international bullshit.
Fuck. I hated that about 4, but that may have been more about pacing than anything. The first two acts were fine and felt like MGS, but the rest felt either way too short or too preoccupied with gimmick scenarios.
-
Act 1 was perfect. Then they take you out of the environment and put you in another. I really, really, hate that. I was growing attached to the middle east. MGS should strike a balance between story and gameplay bullshit. Act 1 had that down tight. But changing locations switches up the pacing in general, because in MGS4, once you left a place, the game would onslaught you with 30 minute cutscenes about cooking eggs, and installing the next Act.
