its that time of the year:
http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/30/3280770/amazon-kindle-paperwhite-display
Along with one or more new Kindle Fires, we're expecting refreshed E Ink models in Amazon's e-reader line at the company's Los Angeles event next week as well. One of those appears to be a refreshed Kindle Touch — the button below the display is gone, and the bezel has changed from light to very dark gray. The overall shape of the product and the location of the USB port and power switch appear to be essentially unchanged. From the images we have, it looks like Amazon will be touting the unit with "higher contrast, high resolution, integrated lighting, and eight weeks of battery life," even when using the light. The retail name for this unit is unclear — Amazon could simply call it the Kindle Touch again, but "Paperwhite" might factor in as well.
Speaking of Paperwhite, this seems to be a reference to the unit's improved display over the so-called Pearl E Ink that Amazon has been using since the third-generation Kindle. Many users, though, are likely to be more excited about the backlight — this particular product is almost certainly designed to be the answer to Barnes & Noble's Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight introduced earlier this year.

I've tried using the display Nook units at a couple B&N stores. They are consistently broken, or crash during the tutorial.
It always leads to me thinking that I should just stick with my iPhone.

I still buy books made of PAPER because deep down inside im old and like books made of paper- ebooks i never finish for some reason
-
i finish ebooks more than paper books.
weird.

Apple suit incoming
-
Isn't "higher contrast" essentially the exact opposite of the point?

Goodbye rainforests, MAF has to have his paper books. ::)

No. High contrast means it's easy to tell the letters from the background/page.

its all about me!

Contrast increases readability. The problem with the glaring white of, say, an iPad screen is that it's backlit. IT IS BEAMING ITS LIGHT INTO YOUR EYEBALLS.

still no physical page-turning buttons? pass
nook touch gives you the choice, you can use the buttons or you can jab at the screen like a taco
-
I only buy used books, at least. /hipstergaylord

Hooray, I am super jealous of Nook with GlowLight and super excited to buy this new Kindle
-
i finish ebooks more than paper books.
weird.
Same. And I only have a N7, not a real eBook reader. Someday...

i finish ebooks more than paper books.
weird.
Not that weird: you've usually got your ebook reader with you wherever you are, right? The same can't be said of the paper books.
-
Resolution?
-
Yeah ebooks are the way to go: on the crapper, in the middle of a godawful teleconference, before you sleep, etc.
Also buying kindle e-books is very painless, which is also important to me. I've been impulse purchasing books ever since I got the program.

Whats the difference? Unless you're carrying a TOME around.

I thought I'd miss paper books but I really don't.
I like having a paper book for a big, thick, erect textbook like book for some subjects I like reading like philosophy books, but other than that...electronic all the way.

I end up reading a lot when I didn't plan to, with the Kindle. Any time I have to kill, all my books are right there on my phone, synced up to my actual Kindle. Plus, i can jump between books whereas with paper i often found myself not in the mood to read whatever book I had in my bag that day. I can't entirely explain it but yeah, with Kindle books can fill up every little nook and cranny of your day whereas paper books typically didn't.

i don't like reading actual books. they're bulky and awkward.
