Are they actually putting PS1 discs in the box? That seems... strange to me.

Huh really? The discs?

Most PS3's don't play PS2 games anymore though...

You're right, but most also own a PS2. Or they can use PCSX2, whatever. It's also a collector's box, nobody is going to open that shit.

I suppose that's true, and anyone buying this has played every game 100 times anyways.

V is supposed to be alright and VI isn't awful either. Avoid the PS1 version of Chrono Trigger like the plague though.

Most PS3's don't play PS2 games anymore though...

Even after removing PS2 BC, they kept PSOne compatibility. When Nintendo removed GC BC from the Wii they left nothing, not even good games to play on the Wii.

FF5 PSX runs "okay", but is saddled with the translation done in 1992 by the FF4 guy, which is pretty fucking bad.

I don't think this is true - do you have a source? I'm pretty sure this was a new translation from the time the PS version was released (or it might've been done back when they were going to release a PC version, not sure which). It reads like something written by a native English speaker who can't write, rather than native Japanese speakers with imperfect English (which the original FF2 US's translators were).

Anyway, maybe I'm too attached to the SNES versions so anything slightly different feels so so so wrong, but I find these completely unplayable. Load times, music and sound, picture (it's scaled or colored wrong or something), just ugh.
