Didn't the Beatles do a version of Mrs Robinson?
-
Never heard it. Maybe there's a bootleg of them doing it in the studio, but I don't think they released it or anything.
edit: there are a lot of sites that claim the Beatles EVEN WROTE IT, but this is pure nonsense. THe Beatles did not even cover it.
-
Dude, you are talking about the popular, well known version of the song, right? The one everyone knows? THAT IS SIMON AND GARFUCKNEL

The Beatles did not do any covers after Help (1965) and Mrs. Robinson was released in 1968. So there is no way they did a cover of Mrs. Robinson.

Yeah, but in the doors thread, he listed it as an example of a great beatles song. We all know that the original is the version everyone knows, and that has to be the one he's talking about. Even if the Beatles did a bootleg, never released cover, he wouldn't have heard it.

:rofl

Just read the thread, which somehow descended into Beatles bashing.
But yeah, lol at Dark.

I REALLY thought The Beatles did that song. Christ, I even thought it was them doing it when I went to Wikipedia and listened to the 23 second sample of the song. I'll be damned.
I hang my head in shame :(

you know why you thought it sucked? because it was nasty folksy 60s rubbish and you instinctively associate nasty folksy 60s rubbish with the beatles. you KNOW they suck on a primal level, which conclusively proves that any feigned respect for the beatles is pure cognitive dissonance.
you have done a great thing for anti-beatles trolls this day, pd.

Mrs. Robinson is a good song, but it is a distinctive Simon and Garfunkel type song. To some it may sound somewhat Beatlesque, but I think that term is ridiculous anyway since the Beatles composed such a variety of songs in many different genres. It doesn't seem like there is a definitive Beatles sound. Unless you're going to tell me I Am the Walrus, Helter Skelter, When I'm 64, Yer Blues and I Want to Hold Your Hand sound alike.

I like how many of them start with the letters A or B.
Martin: Boys I have a list of songs that I want you to read through. Pick out one song from the list and we'll record a cover version.
Lennon: Done.
Martin: But you only read the first page.
Lennon: I said done.

I think Beatlesque is an adequate enough descriptor to use, although I am somewhat hesitant to try to define it. For example, some Elliot Smith songs have Beatlesque melodies, although the songs in question don't sound very Beatlesy.

Don't know too much about him, but from his Wiki page it is clear that they must have influenced him.
In 1998, Smith recorded and contributed a cover version of the Beatles song "Because" to the American Beauty soundtrack, which can be heard during the closing credits of the film. Although this was the only Beatles song that Smith ever officially released, he was known to have recorded at least one other ("Revolution", during the sessions for XO), and played many during his live concerts. Among the songs he is known to have played during concerts are "Blackbird", "Yer Blues", "I Me Mine", "For No One", "Something", "I'm So Tired", "Long, Long, Long", and "I'm Only Sleeping". He also played from the Beatles members' solo careers including the John Lennon song "Jealous Guy", and the George Harrison songs "Give Me Love", "My Sweet Lord", and "Isn't it a Pity?".
This is a good cover http://youtube.com/watch?v=t0uiL0OZ8mY (http://youtube.com/watch?v=t0uiL0OZ8mY)

I miss him a lot. I wish I had gotten to see him live.

Here's an example of one of his originals that I think is Beatlesque. Listen to the whole thing.

Malek, maybe you'd know who recorded this. It is a pretty badass Day in the Life Instrumental, that was on one of my friend's mixed CDs. I have been wondering who did it for a couple of years now.

Simon and Garfunkel's first album is fantastic. After that, ehh, they were okay, even having some great songs here and there, but I liked them much better before they "went electric." The soothing acoustic folk of the first album is for me.
