Taller screen, LTE, thinner, lighter, 2x faster CPU and GPU (allegedly).
Zzzzz I say. But what say you?
-
It's a joke. A bigger joke when it can't compete with a goddamn Windows Phone let alone a shitty LG Android.
Sub HD, Shitty new proprietary cable, ZZZ Camera and 4 inch too fucking late.
I am having way too much fun here.
-
I find nothing to get particularly-excited over, but that's okay- it's time for me to upgrade and I'm looking forward to having 4G available.
-
No NFC was disappointing too. Maybe the iPhone 5S will finally add it and Cook will spin it as an unprecedented and revolutionary implementation!
The new dock is a kick in the nut too.
-
Hahahaha.
2 years and this is all they got? Haahahaha

Touch 5 > iPhone 5

Apple is for people that hate tech and are posers.
-
Zzzz indeed. I guess I'll stick with my 4 for another year!
-
I'll get the new Touch next year.
-
Totally content getting two 16GB 4S's (wife and I) next week.
-
The iPhone 5 is kind of nice but I have to be honest, I'm more interested in an android phone for my next upgrade.
Now that iPod nano does look nice.............. but eh, I think I am more interested in buying a shuffle. All I would use the nano for is music, I don't need a colorful screen.
-
Totally content getting two 16GB 4S's (wife and I) next week.
That doesn't make sense though; why waste an upgrade cycle getting old tech?
-
Is there any other smartphone that's better for me, if I'm primarily interested in games? I suppose all models support Google calendar and email.
-
No exclusive iOS 6 features a la Siri as well. What's most surprising though is that every bit of "news" they announced, with regards to the iPhone specifically, was leaked WAY ahead. So there was absolutely no surprises. I guess Cook fired all of Steve's ninjas.
-
At least I don't have to feel bad about buying a 4S just a couple months ago.
-

If you already have a smartphone, just get the new Touch (or even iPad if you must) for iOS gaming. The A5 processor puts it on par with everything released. The only question is RAM, but honestly I dont see that being an issue with it supporting all it does.
If you don't, then the 4S will suit you fine, unless you really want the 5. Many developers CAN'T develop exclusively for new devices, since many people have old units and they're potential money too.
Android is pretty shit for games. Everything gets ported over to iOS because they want to actually sell some games.

Because there's nothing about the 5 that makes me want it enough to drop another $200 on two of them. I also like the size of 4 over the 5. It will be my texting, calling, browsing, Facebooking and Untappding device.
I'm weird. I know.
-
If you already have a smartphone
I don't, and I figured I might as well get the latest version when I decide to upgrade.

I wonder if they'll have to make new versions for the 5. My buddy works for Z2Live and he said it was a bitch to port their iPhone games over to the iPad based on the difference in resolution/screen size.
-
That new Touch is fucking sexy as hell.
The phone...looks like a tall 4. Eh. I'm ready for an udate so I'll bite.
-
- double the CPU/GPU cores
- higher resolution 16:9 screen (that can still run legacy apps at their native resolution, size, & aspect ratio)
- thinner
- LTE
- better camera
- orientation-independent dock connector (so cool!)
Is this good over iPhone 4S? Enough?
Not really. 4S owners got suckered (no surprise)
Touch 5 is more of an upgrade than this.
-
I'm totally fine with my 4 but my contract ends in January so I'll probably end up getting a 5. I'm not really feeling this though. I've had a 1, 3, and a 4 and all of them felt like substantial upgrades to what's out there. This.....not so much.
-
could switch for a samsung galaxy III, those are pretty good phones
-
Yeah, I've owned a 3 and a 4, and the 5 has me looking at the Android and WP8 phones fairly seriously. Disappointment total.
-
Wow, I think I'm going to have to become an iOS fanboy to maintain my contrarian image.
:bow solid incremental progress :bow2
:yuck tedious demands for constant reinvention :yuck

Stickin with ma 4

Great job, return to the base immediately.

I'm too locked into the iOS environment across other devices and computers to cut the cord at this point. I like iOS gaming and apps too much.
-
I dislike how making something bigger (height and width) and thinner is objectively improving a thingamajig that's meant to go in my pocket. I avoided buying the (at the time) high end nokia in favor of the version below it because the fancy one was too big already - and now the newest nokia is supposedly bigger still?
:maf

If you ask me, your dick should always be the biggest thing in your pants. With that said, I'm OK with the new screen.

$300 for the new iPod Touch? And people think that iPad mini is gonna start at $199 :lol
-
Galaxy S3 here I come :D
-
I was expecting a 3D haptic mega-device, and still I can't quite believe Apple has not only equalled my hopes, but exceeded them: with earbuds and a new power thing.
-
I might buy a Touch, but not this year.
-

At least wait for the black friday deals.

It's surprising as hell that they haven't announced that. The new iPhone is a solid upgrade but nothing game-changing. Even announcing the smaller iPad at $350 or something would at least give them an even bigger PR boost today, but I guess they're waiting until right before the holidays to announce it. I am so going to make fun of numble and other gaffers who promised it would be below $300 though.
-
I still have my 4S that I got at its launch. No way I'm hell I'm upgrading it. I'll wait for the iPhone 6 or 5S or whatever the fuck they decide to call the next iteration of the iPhone.
-

My contract is up. I've had a 3, 3GS, 4 and 4S through my own and work phones and if I didn't have a library of iOS stuff I'd be looking at a WP8 phone today. 4G will be nice to have but there's nothing exciting about this phone, especially considering it wont work with my Logitech radio without that stupid adapter.
-
Boring. I'd get a touch or a nano though.
-
nice products that i'll probably upgrade to on the cheap when my contract is up. Absolutely nothing to make me run to the store over though.
-
Looks like AT&T is going to let me keep my unlimited data when I upgrade in December while Verizon customers are being given the thumb in the butthole. I want to get my hands on a 5 and a S3 before I make a decision though.

So, I'm up for an upgrade in late october/early november. Im on Verizon. I currently have a slowly dieing Droid X. Would the iphone 5 be worth upgrading to? Or should I go another route? I'd like to spend less than 100-150 on a new phone. What do you guys recommend? You are all way better versed in phone tech than I am.

You'd be ponying up $199 minimum but I'd say an iPhone 5 would be a great, safe choice. I can't really deal with Android phones anymore seeing as 80% of all the apps and games I want are iPhone-exclusive.
-
I'll admit I have no issues with an Android phone. I just want to get the best deal for what I want to spend. I'll go 199 for the iphone 5 if its the best deal for my situation, but I was hoping that if there were better deals that you guys would know of them.

You might want to wait around for Black Friday, you could probably find a 5 for cheaper then.
The Droid Razr is 99 bucks on Verizon, maybe check that out? That's a nice device.

I might hold off if I can. Is the RAZR a big improvement over the Droid X?

not a huge improvement but an improvement nonetheless. Or you could sink into the Windows mobile environment and get a Lumia.

Can someone explain to me why this thing is called the iPhone 5? It's the sixth iteration of the iPhone, it's powered by the Apple A6, and it's launching with iOS 6.0. Where the hell is the 5 coming from?
-
^Because they named the last one 4S for whatever reason.

Wait until Black Friday for the best phone deals. Also, the new Nexus phone will be out by then so you can compare the best of both worlds. I think Windows 8 phones will also be out if you want to try them out.

If you're on Verizon and you decide to get an android again, get the Galaxy Nexus or the Galaxy S3. Nexus should also be $99 right now and it's a much better phone than anything Motorola will ever put out.
-
I've been looking at the Amazon upgrade options for relevance and I seen that the Nexus gets good reviews as does the S3. So the Nexus 2 comes out later this year?
edit: Also, currently off Amazon you can upgrade to the Nexus for 50 bucks.
-

But that's not consistent either, since previously we thought the iPhone 4 was called that for being the fourth iteration, even though the one before it was the 3GS, not the 3S. After all "3G" was really "2". :smug

Your account. It is appropriately named.

No word or rumors on the next Nexus phone.

The new Nexus always comes around Thanksgiving. Nothing is really known about the specs though.
