some nice improvements over the first game, and it runs like butter
like the first game, it's heavily geared towards co-op, and can be pretty rough when you're playing alone and getting swarmed
hey this might sound like a stupid question but hows the customization in this game? like if i pick Axton's beanie head would i be able to take it off and get a different haircut later on?
Ask me what I think about Borderlands 2 from Gearbox Software, and I’d tell you about its dubious, convoluted plot. I’d talk about a mind-boggling array of guns and loot. At no point, though, would I ever say I was ready to “joy puke” my face off, as the game box predicts players will do.
The sequel to the highly acclaimed 2009 Borderlands game goes on shelves Tuesday in Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions for around $60. At that price point, the first-person shooter, published by 2K Games, inevitably invites comparisons with the Halos and Calls of Duty games already out and due to come in the next few weeks and months. Borderlands 2 falls short because it’s missing several key elements you need to have in a 2012 first-person shooter game – most notably, a rich multiplayer online mode. There’s an extremely limited four-player cooperative mode, and if you have an Xbox Live Gold account, you can team up that way, but this isn’t the type of deeply engrossing FPS game the headset-wearing COD crowds gather to play months and months after release. In comparison, I read on several sites that COD: Black Ops 2 will feature up to six teams, for a total of 18 simultaneous players, in multiplayer mode.
Borderlands 2’s single-player campaign mode isn’t as good as what you’ll find in games like COD: Black Ops or the Medal of Honor series. There’s too much “feast-or-famine” hunting for tasks, supplies and a good battle for this to be a fun game all the way through.
The game’s opening sequence reminds you that Borderlands’ developers chose to go the animation route, and I don’t like it very much. The game isn’t manga-like enough to be super-hip, so instead, it just feels cartoonish.
As a $30 impulse buy, priced about the same as games like “NASCAR Unleashed,” I wouldn’t have a problem recommending Borderlands 2 as a fun diversion. At twice that price, though, I think it’s fair for players to demand the whole magilla – cutting-edge development, engrossing campaign gameplay, scads of downloadable content, a rich social media/community experience, sharing of loot and gear and online multiplayer modes that keep you and your friends coming back until the next version of the game comes out.

i don't understand what you mean by this. can you elaborate further?
i just got to the new area and have to do a mission to get into Sanctuary. seems pretty cool so far.
however i cant figure out how i'm supposed to turn in Bad Hair Day. Where's claptrap?
i see. yeah, weird choice.
so anyone know how where claptrap is so i can turn in bad hair day?

What's wrong with Goldfrapp though? I have a few of their songs.
I thought they were mentioned in Juno, but I could be wrong.

Even if this was implemented in the first game, if you're playing as different classes you wouldn't have to fight over loot anyway.... as a Hunter I only gave a shit about good revolvers and sniper rifles.
Handsome Jack is Handsome Awesome too. Great smartass villain. CMERE BUTT STALLION
vehicles control fine, or at least the dune buggy thing does. i was zipping all over the place last nigh with that thing.
man I want this game so bad(http://i.imgur.com/K8d7e.jpg)
I HATE BEING POOR
I am REALLY outleveling side missions ... any reason to care or should I just blitz on aheadI had that in the first game too, I think they set the side missions below the story missions so you can use them to catch up if you need to, but they don't structure the missions in order properly so you always wind up overlevelled for 90% of the side missions.
you can't turn AFAIK, you can only adjust the camera and go forward/reverse?
Probably already mentioned but if you register with that shift thing on the main menu, you get an extra golden key.

If the probability of getting a glitch, error, bug, or any other negative thing is more than 0, Eel will definitely get it. I do feel for you, man, seriously.
So far I haven't seen any bugged quests, fortunately, and I've been doing just about all the sidequests I come across.
So, am I just a real girly man gamer, or is this game pretty challenging solo? I didn't play the first a ton (think I played to level 12 or something), but I don't really remember dying in that game outside of a couple of excursions to areas that were clearly too high level. But this one? I'm dying a ton, and I'm only to the mission where you have to kill the psycho riding the bullymong.
The part with Lilith is awesome. I love how they put the old cast as part of the story. Just need to find my dude Mordecai and I'm golden.
if you're dying a lot that early on then yes you are just a girly man gamer, although i just got to the part where you infiltrate the raider camp to save some dude and i died 3 times in the bossfight there, so yes it does get challenging solo, but i didn't have a problem that early on
I'm really pissed I can't finish that quest because of the glitch, finishing it apparently launches a longer questline.

Why can't you finish it?
Just join someone else's game that's doing it and you'll get credit for any objectives you do.
Yeah they seem to have gotten away with weapon specifics. They even got rid of Proficiency.
I am gonna make a new character and take it through the opening bits, then reserve it, if anyone else wants to start fresh and play through the whole game co-op (not at once, just keep a character on reserve for that purpose) let me know.
my game crashes a lot. next time i need to take a screenie of the crash dump. happens at least once a session :\

I wouldn't mind doing that, I was already thinking of starting a new playthrough with Zero.

Bummer, man. I've played over 23 hours and haven't hit a single crash. What kind of set up do you have?

Does this game have actual variety unlike the first game?
sometimes this game just isn't very much fun, like when you work your way to the top of a mountain, die, then respawn halfway across the map and have to slog all the way back - and they charge you $400+ dollars on top of it
Also, being good at sniping gives you a false impression that you're making great progress when you should really hang back a bit and grind for a while.
I haven't jumped in yet, but can everyone cite which platform they're playing this on? If it's a console how good is the port and if it's the PC version how demanding are the reqs? Kthxbye

This game is brutal. It seems like you need to be at least a couple levels higher than the recommended level as "normal." I got a lot of lucky second winds thanks to guns that deal elemental damage that take out an enemy in the nick of time. Also, being good at sniping gives you a false impression that you're making great progress when you should really hang back a bit and grind for a while.
the problem with not rushing in is that i'm playing a gunzerker, and his abilities are built around rushing in
I'll be honest and say in general I don't see how people play this game singleplayer.I played the first one multiple times solo because everyone I know is shitty in co-op. (L4D, Saints Row, this, etc. they're terrible!)
spoiler (click to show/hide)luring flesh stick back to tina is the most annoying goddamned mission yet, i want to slap someone at gearbox for making it[close]
Got the Minecraft gun last night. Its pretty awesome.

Im at the place where you have to find the rebel leader (trying to be spoiler free) i tried getting him out that robo but they disappeared. Bugged quest?
I found what feels like a game breaking gun at lvl 9. it's an autofire pistol w/ infinite ammo which does 67 points of damage per round. innacurate as hell but when you're capping bosses super easily it doesn't feel like it much matters

nah, just a super rare gun. i've heard of similar guns dropping.
not game breaking since eventually you'll over level for it and it'll be useless.
I replayed it with some friends and we took it down before it even moved. Am now at level 19 as well.Im at the place where you have to find the rebel leader (trying to be spoiler free) i tried getting him out that robo but they disappeared. Bugged quest?
No, they disappeared to a different part of the world. You have the use the fast travel to find where they are.
Oh and I watched playthrough videos fighting that one boss and I got highly discouraged that they were all wielding powerful weapons in spite of being the same level or lower. I've had such shitty gun loot in this game that I'm still depending on weaponry that is several levels lower than I am (19) because I can't find anything that even matches those weapons.
made a super dumb mistake.
i was on the last part of the mission where you save Roland. it's NG+ so the game spawns Angelic Guards which are super difficult to fight. Well I got to just before the final boss and noticed theres a warp. I was low on rocket ammo and didn't want to run all the way back to the vendor so I figured "great, i can just warp back here"
NOPE.
I ended up warping back to the beginning of the level and had to fight through THE ENTIRE THING all over again.
forgot i didnt have a corrosive weapon so these loaders are fucking hard to kill.
+ Boost capacity
+ Boost recharge rate
+ Boost recharge delay

I stopped my playthrough and decided to go do every single optional quest while before i continue.
is it easy to miss optional quests?
btw, joe. how'd you get the conference call and the bee anyway? just farming terra or something?

Sorry for bailing on you, Zero, had I stayed in your game, I don't think you'd have gotten any kills.

I was hoping to get down at least another tree but with the cap being at 50, doesn't seem likley :(.

It would be nice if Eridium didn't eventually become utterly worthless.Yeah its always a bit weird to have a currency for an upgrade system you can easily max out.

Forgot to ask- how's the DLC? I'm gonna get the season pass at some point in the next few days regardless, just wondering.

The pirate DLC was pretty good and Mr. Torgue is probably the best character in BL2 that isn't Handsome Jack.
game+ of this is really frustrating. the bosses are way the fuck harder and i just don't think you can get good enough guns unless you get golden keysGolden Keys are useless trinkets in my experience. I started NG+ on level 30 and had no problems, what level are you?

Finally digging into this game and, man, the characters in this are so irritating. Who wrote this? They all speak the same. Blah blah internet cultural reference blah blah bonerfarts. Ugh.
At Gearbox's PAX East panel today, the developers of Borderlands 2 announced that players maxed out at level 50 will finally be able to get to leveling their characters again. As of April 2nd (next week!) you can download what is basically DLC for 11 extra levels (that's up to 61).
But it'll cost you $5 for the add-on, unless you've got that nifty season pass.
The add-on will also come with the return of the Pearlescent weapon type, which was a set of high-level weapon drops and an extremely rare find in Borderlands 1. We haven't seen this weapon type in the sequel yet, but if you download the add-on next week, you might see it pop up here and there if you're lucky to find one of those crafty little guns.
But it'll cost you $5 for the add-on

I wish they would raise the level cap. I'm not playing anymore DLC until that happens.I finished everything, and I was already level 50 before finishing true hunter mode. On one hand i loved all the DLC, on the other I dont feel i really gained anything since all the legendaries I actively use are from the main game anyway.
Just 11 levels though?11 levels of making all 20+ of my legendaries useless. I'm not fucking grinding villains for them again :/
Exciting changes are coming to Borderlands 2 on April 2, 2013!
As you may have heard, the team has been hard at work to raise the level cap -- an effort that required re-balancing, re-tuning and re-testing the entire game -- along with adding a third playthrough, more ammo upgrades, additional backpack slots and more!
Here's what players on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 can expect that day:
Changes in 4/2 Software Update (Free)
Adds new items to the Black Market:
One additional ammo upgrade for each ammo type, at 50 Eridium each.
Two more backpack storage space upgrades, at 50 and 100 Eridium respectively.
Two more bank storage space upgrades, at 50 and 100 Eridium respectively.
Increases the maximum amount of Eridium players can hold from 99 to 500.
Adds a new playthrough balanced for top-tier play: Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode.
Various bug fixes.
Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack
(Free with Season Pass, $4.99 / 400 Microsoft Points separately)
Raises level cap to 61, allowing characters to gain 11 additional levels.
Characters gain a skill point with every level from 51 to 61, for a total of 11 more skill points.
Powerful new "Ancient" E-Tech relics and rare Pearlescent-grade weapons can be picked up in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode.
Check back soon for a detailed look at the gameplay changes in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode (UPDATE: find that here) along with details on the various bug fixes in the update, and don't forget there's more to come for Borderlands 2: Krieg the Psycho, a new playable character, arrives in May with the fourth campaign add-on (included in the Season Pass) hitting by the end of June!
Among the level cap increase and various other changes coming to Borderlands 2 on April 2, 2013 is a new playthrough -- Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode -- built for challenging high-level play.
Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode differs quite a bit from Normal Mode and True Vault Hunter Mode -- here's a quick rundown of the major changes:
Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode Details
Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode is unlocked for a character once they have completed the main story missions in True Vault Hunter Mode and reached level 50.
Unlike other playthroughs, Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode can be replayed multiple times with players able to reset their overall mission progress at any time from the Main Menu.
No more tutorial missions -- characters in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode begin in Southern Shelf with the "Cleaning Up the Berg" mission.
While playing in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, enemies and bosses will scale according to the player's current level or, if playing with others, the highest-level player in that party.
Gameplay changes in UVHM:
Enemy health generally increased 4x.
Enemies now have a moderate amount of health regeneration.
Increased duration of slag damage multiplier effect.
Upped the damage that slagged enemies take from 2x to 3x.
Weapon swap speed increased to better facilitate slag use.
Enemies now more likely to drop ammo.
Loot Midgets are now "Legendary Loot Midgets" that can drop Legendary and other top-tier gear.
Check back Monday for details on the various bug fixes in Tuesday's update, and don't forget there's more to come for Borderlands 2: Krieg the Psycho, a new playable character, arrives in May with the fourth campaign add-on (included in the Season Pass) hitting by the end of June!
