PC version (Steamworks) $36 at Green Man Gaming (http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/rpgs/borderlands-2-na/) until tomorrow. Use code GMG25-1BW0K-K1A3G

I went ahead and bought it. Dunno how much I'll get to play this week (:teehee) but go ahead and add jackfrost2012. Together, let's ensure Borderlands is both Broderlands and Borederlands.

like the first game, it's heavily geared towards co-op, and can be pretty rough when you're playing alone and getting swarmed

Got it on 360, tried it out last night in a four person party.  Dunno if maybe we were all half asleep or what, but this one seems harder than the first.  Gonna do a little solo once I get home from work.  Was playing Salvador, I think I may make my solo either Maya or Axton, both look really awesome.  No cares for Xero though.  Dunno why, the mystery bit just didn't play to me.

Also the Gearbox guns seemed kinda crappy wtf.

http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2012/09/18/game-theory-borderlands-2-fails-to-generate-joy-puke/

Quote
Ask me what I think about Borderlands 2 from Gearbox Software, and I’d tell you about its dubious, convoluted plot. I’d talk about a mind-boggling array of guns and loot. At no point, though, would I ever say I was ready to “joy puke” my face off, as the game box predicts players will do.

The sequel to the highly acclaimed 2009 Borderlands game goes on shelves Tuesday in Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions for around $60. At that price point, the first-person shooter, published by 2K Games, inevitably invites comparisons with the Halos and Calls of Duty games already out and due to come in the next few weeks and months. Borderlands 2 falls short because it’s missing several key elements you need to have in a 2012 first-person shooter game – most notably, a rich multiplayer online mode. There’s an extremely limited four-player cooperative mode, and if you have an Xbox Live Gold account, you can team up that way, but this isn’t the type of deeply engrossing FPS game the headset-wearing COD crowds gather to play months and months after release. In comparison, I read on several sites that COD: Black Ops 2 will feature up to six teams, for a total of 18 simultaneous players, in multiplayer mode.

Quote
Borderlands 2’s single-player campaign mode isn’t as good as what you’ll find in games like COD: Black Ops or the Medal of Honor series. There’s too much “feast-or-famine” hunting for tasks, supplies and a good battle for this to be a fun game all the way through.

Quote
The game’s opening sequence reminds you that Borderlands’ developers chose to go the animation route, and I don’t like it very much. The game isn’t manga-like enough to be super-hip, so instead, it just feels cartoonish.

Quote
As a $30 impulse buy, priced about the same as games like “NASCAR Unleashed,” I wouldn’t have a problem recommending Borderlands 2 as a fun diversion. At twice that price, though, I think it’s fair for players to demand the whole magilla – cutting-edge development, engrossing campaign gameplay, scads of downloadable content, a rich social media/community experience, sharing of loot and gear and online multiplayer modes that keep you and your friends coming back until the next version of the game comes out.

Well forget it then.  :wag Gearbox.

I don't like how areas will repopulate immediately after you finish a mission. I killed a "miniboss" type, and as soon as the "turn in!" message appeared the entire area I had already cleared popped full of raider-dudes out of nowhere. I'm sure it's fun to fight your way back out in co-op, but by yourself it's just a slog. I just want to turn in my fuckin' mission.

The game isn’t manga-like enough to be super-hip, so instead, it just feels cartoonish.

I wish this game was more like Scott Pilgrim, swear to blog! *listens to Goldfrapp*

The "manga-like" line got me  :lol I wouldn't mind a more animu-ish Borderlands game, with some nice pantsu shots. :uguu

What's wrong with Goldfrapp though? I have a few of their songs.

Guns are more unique and varied. I found a gun that turns into a grenade every reload. So I would shoot a couple bullets, then reload to toss a quick grenade.

Game is bad ass.

They fixed a lot of small stuff but stuff that was annoying in the first game. I agree with Demi. This is pretty much a picture perfect way to do a sequel.

I played up to level 10 with the Siren and the Commando guy. The commando guy is kinda boring with his turret but the Siren is godly with the lock ability. That thing is amazing and so fun to use. And it has so many uses. Just awesome. I will play through this game with each character class. They are that fun. Nice to spend $60 and feel you purchase was completely justified.

I havent had any fights over loot since most of it has been shit compared to my current gun. I focus on Pistols + Sniper Rifle. They did nerf money considerably, though. Now you get like $2 lol. Maybe that will change later on.

Game is fun. I found a nice corrosive pistol pretty early and it's still my gun of choice at level 10.

I set my son up to play so Lego stuff on the PC. I come in over an hour later to find him playing my Borderlands game with 2 of his Castle Miner Z friends. He was having a blast. That little bastard backtracked so far that I had to fight 2 mini bosses over again. I didn't really mind but it did take almost a half hour to get back to where I was.  :'(

It's a ton of fun so far - mostly minor improvements on Borderlands but I am 100% okay with that. The game is definitely a lot more fun in co-op, I was dying a bunch solo but haven't had much trouble in co-op. It's kind of annoying that pretty much every weapon I've found outside of pistols have sucked but hopefully I'll find some good loot soon.

^ and yeah, I'm also not finding much reason to do the side missions at the moment

I had that in the first game too, I think they set the side missions below the story missions so you can use them to catch up if you need to, but they don't structure the missions in order properly so you always wind up overlevelled for 90% of the side missions.

I have two different characters and I thought I would be able to share stuff between them because of that storage area in Sanctuary but I can't seem to get it to work. Was I wrong about that. Can characters on the same gamertag share items because everytime I go with either character it only shows the stuff I put in there with that specific character.

Edit: nevermind. I found it. There are two storage/stash areas in Sanctuary. I was using the wrong one.

never noticed, it felt very intuitive to me, i was turning on a dime and doing 180's like it was nothing

anyways i hopped onto fatalT's game earlier this morning and realized that when you co op with a friend you pretty much need to be on the same mission for it to "work", otherwise you're just gonna have to go through the same area later on in your own campaign playthrough?

I was kvetching to Cruncheon - I think the balance is totally fucked up on single player. I was level 12 and doing a level 8 mission (Assassinate the Assassins) and died about a dozen times from the Pyro Nomads... Like you, I don't think I'm COMPLETELY terrible at games, but I have this feeling they just kinda threw their hands up and shrugged when asked to balance the single player game.

It doesn't do anything right now. It's supposed to eventually be like the rockstar social club thing. You just go into the menu for it in game and then register. You then confirm it via your email and it links your xbox/ps3/steam account to your shift account. When you go back in the game it says you have a new golden key. Right now it does nothing functionally in the game, except give you the golden key and register and link your account to whatever this service eventually becomes.

Dying is pretty normal for this game. It's not like you failed for dying. You are either underleveld, your loot sucks, or you're just getting swarmed. That's why they have last stand / second wind.

At most you lose a few bucks... big whoop.

I'm fine with this, but it's weird to stick a pistol upgrade In the zerker tech tree. Especially for pistols and not shotguns

Viz and I hit another bugged quest yesterday, had to quit out of the game to get it to reset. Treesong and I played for a while, didn't hit any bugs.

I am gonna make a new character and take it through the opening bits, then reserve it, if anyone else wants to start fresh and play through the whole game co-op (not at once, just keep a character on reserve for that purpose) let me know.

When do the powers kick in? Level 5?  That's where I'll stop and put a hold on my character. Guess I will go for the Commando this time.

I've played all 4 classes for varying amounts of time now.

I think the Siren is the most fun. Followed up by the commando guy although Zero is pretty close and neat in his own ways. My least favorite is the gun zerker. The dual wielding thing is probably fun if you have two really bad ass weapons but overall I find that character kind of boring.

On a general note the game is funnier than I expected. I know they made a big deal of Anthony Burch writing most of it but I find Hey Ash watcha playing over-rated so I was skeptical coming into this. But there are some legit funny moments. I say this after not thinking a single thing in the original Borderlands was funny.

Siren is a fun class from the get-go due to Phaselock.

Gunzerker and Zero are classes that pay off in the later game when the skill tree is more fleshed out. Early on it's kinda... wut?

Commando is kind of the missionary boring class, imo. Turrets... man

This game is brutal.  It seems like you need to be at least a couple levels higher than the recommended level as "normal."  I got a lot of lucky second winds thanks to guns that deal elemental damage that take out an enemy in the nick of time.  Also, being good at sniping gives you a false impression that you're making great progress when you should really hang back a bit and grind for a while.

??? No, being good at sniping means enemies die in one shot, and you laugh from afar. Headshots = Critical

You can also take chunks of boss health this way.

The gunzerker doesn't have an easy bailout get out of danger card to play like the other classes.

Lock, turret, and stealth are all a way to retreat if used correctly by comparison.

I'll be honest and say in general I don't see how people play this game singleplayer. Even in comparison to the other loot games, this one seems like it begs for co-op. So many mechanics are built into it that encourage it. I would recommend everybody really play it that way if at all possible.

I played the first one multiple times solo because everyone I know is shitty in co-op. (L4D, Saints Row, this, etc. they're terrible!)

And to be fair I kinda like solo. I loved in the first game when it sometimes offered "isolation" and that I was alone in this hostile world.

I started a new game with Zer0 and I like him a lot more than Axton. I love the pistols that buff the melee. Anything stupid enough to run at you loses its head with one swipe. It's also pretty gratifying meleeing a boss to its death using the deception power. One thing I learned from watching one of the dev diaries about the assassin is that the first shot/melee attack in deception deals the most damage.
I used the Bad Hair day quest to get a nice sniper rifle. It's almost twice as good as the one you start with.

I had fun playing with you mojo.

I messed that up the first time because I accidentally killed Flesh-Stick right away, but when I went back to do the mission again, it was just him there and no one else. After that, it's simple as can be to get him back to the cave.

There's a story twist that occurs late in the game that i found pretty good and well done:

You find out Angel isn't an AI, but Jack's daughter and she's also a Siren. You kill her and Jack kidnaps Lilith. Then you start seeing super high-res IRL videos of Lilith instead of Angel.

I'm kind of addicted to the game in a way I wasn't to the original or for that matter Diablo 3 or Mass Effect 3. I didn't bother to play any of the other classes in those games for example but I've played all four in Borderlands 2 for a good amount of time.

Can't quite put my finger on why I like the game so much especially since I was a bit luke warm on the first. It's just an accumulation of small things that add up to make me really like it.

And the story and characters are a huge step up. Really helps with the motivation in these sorts of titles which can often feel repetitive.

I started NG+ and played until I got to Sanctuary so I could use one of my gold keys. I got a shotgun thats not as good as the one I already had and a sniper rifle :(

No, they disappeared to a different part of the world.  You have the use the fast travel to find where they are.

Oh and I watched playthrough videos fighting that one boss and I got highly discouraged that they were all wielding powerful weapons in spite of being the same level or lower.  I've had such shitty gun loot in this game that I'm still depending on weaponry that is several levels lower than I am (19) because I can't find anything that even matches those weapons.

I know you have storage but I wish there was kinda of a hall of fame where you could stick your favorite guns in that were great for their time.

But yeah any good gun you get early you eventually get to a point where you need a better one. It may take awhile but it happens.

made a super dumb mistake.

i was on the last part of the mission where you save Roland. it's NG+ so the game spawns Angelic Guards which are super difficult to fight. Well I got to just before the final boss and noticed theres a warp. I was low on rocket ammo and didn't want to run all the way back to the vendor so I figured "great, i can just warp back here"

NOPE.

I ended up warping back to the beginning of the level and had to fight through THE ENTIRE THING all over again.

if you havent been checking randy pitchford's twitter, he posts SHIFT codes that can be used to redeem for gold keys. i think they are usable by like 10k people so if you see it quick enough you should be able to redeem it. i've gotten keys the last two times he's posted them.

made a super dumb mistake.

i was on the last part of the mission where you save Roland. it's NG+ so the game spawns Angelic Guards which are super difficult to fight. Well I got to just before the final boss and noticed theres a warp. I was low on rocket ammo and didn't want to run all the way back to the vendor so I figured "great, i can just warp back here"

NOPE.

I ended up warping back to the beginning of the level and had to fight through THE ENTIRE THING all over again.

forgot i didnt have a corrosive weapon so these loaders are fucking hard to kill.

Is that NG+ thing the machine holding Roland? That thing regens it's shield to fast for me. Stuck at it at this point.  I'll start hammering the machine and in the time it take to take down a guard it spawns, the shield is back up.

Those robots are pretty easy with weapons that do explosive or corrosive damage. I have a pistol that does explosive and it owns those guys.

by NG+ i mean new game +, as in the second playthrough.

so it's much tougher than the first playthrough

joe, GR, one of joe's friends and i farmed Terramorphous earlier. Joe's friend has a shotgun that pretty much solo'd it no problem. So we just collected all the loot and sold it. I'm sitting on 2.5m right now lol

Thanks for the offer Momo, but I beat it last night. I just stood far back and kept pegging the eye with a corrosive sniper.

Now I'm almost done with Liliths Firehawk cult side missions. I'm pretty overleveled and can kill everything with my explosive pistol and melee.

for as much as this game is really fun, and whatnot. i cannot believe how many technical problems i'm having with it. i've had countless crashes of multiple sorts. i've had 2 blue screens. i've had the sound lock up and crash the game (requiring a reboot). i've had a crash that brings up a built in error dump message that seems other people have as well.

only this game. 50+ hours of dark souls, dozens of hours of battlefield 3. played some trine 2 over the weekend. no problems at all. this is just a borderlands 2 problem.

now the game won't launch at all. getting "Error 55" saying the steam servers are too busy to process my request. this happened after i went to verify the game integrity.

tried a bunch of shit. reinstalling the game now.

but doing some googling, it seems other people have been having this problem in the last day or so. :\

playthrough two is so fucking hard. i'm stuck on Wildlife Preserve. I just can't kill this superbadass corrosive skag. nothing i have damages it enough and it takes my shields down to nothing in about 10 seconds.

in other news, i found a shield in caustic caverns that bumps my shields up to 95K but reduces my health down to around 9k. it's called "The Fabled Tortoise"

it's a good shield but it makes me run super slow when its fully charged. Even with that I can't manage to hurt this enemy fast enough.

guess i need to grind/do sidequests and keep leveling.

Borderlands 2 owns. It's everything the original Borderlands should have been. Not that Borderlands wasn't good - it was actually very, very good - but the game lacked the variety (loot, enemies, locales, level design, mission design) to stay engaging. I'm like 5 hours into Borderlands 2 and I've seen more weapon and enemy variety than probably the majority of the original game, and that's without mentioning the fantastic area design. The real treat are both the writing and loot - which are a tremendous step up - which makes the game feel more than the simplistic and absolutely uninspired go to point a, go to point b schlock that made up the original. Borderlands 2 makes uses of its humor in more interesting degrees.

Not that Borderlands needs extravagant writing, but it helps to get absorbed into a game that has all the details placed well rather than get the feeling it was written in the span of a week. But more than that, the loot is amazing and keeps getting even better. The elemental system keeps guns constantly involving and interesting to the point where you grow attached, rather than shelf it for the next more powerful weapon like in the original. I dare say Borderlands 2 gets loot games better than Diablo 3 based on my time so far.

Fantastic package all around. When I first booted it up, I was thinking,"well, this is Borderlands alright..." but the more you play sink your teeth into it, the better it gets.

Between Jet Set Radio HD, Dark Souls, and Borderlands 2, my pc is getting some nice use for gaming this fall.

made another dumb mistake. but this one i've been making for the last several hours

i had this relic that had the following stats:

Quote
+ Boost capacity
+ Boost recharge rate
+ Boost recharge delay

"enhances vehicle capabilities"

Now. I didn't realize the bottom quote was describing what the upper buffs did. I thought it was just another buff the relic had. So this entire time I've assumed the relic increased my carry capacity, and my shield recharge rate and the recharge delay.

NOPE. I've been using this garbage relic this entire time because I'm stupid and been selling awesome relics.

Nah, most of them are pretty obvious (you see a yellow question mark on the map). There are a few that are more hidden, but the game tells you if there's a hidden quest in an area, and you can do them even after you beat the game. There are some that become blocked if you advance too far in the main quest before doing them, but I've heard that the game lets you do all the blocked quests at the end too.

deathtrap is useful in boss fights- but dies faster than a turret and is trickier about drawing aggro- you also cant retrieve it early to reduce cooldown- so if you pop it for a small fight you could be wasting it a bit. You also have no control over its path- and it currently bugs out on a stinging cactus if hit by its charge. The skills, while horrible MLP references, sound cool- so i'll continue playing as this character parallel w/axton

I think Michael is very useful early in the game, but my experience was the quality of his items dropped at around mid-game. I think he is also limited to blues where as the chest can give purples.

For those that don't know the slot machines give an orange for borderlands borderlands borderlands symbol but that's really rare. I've gotten it one time in hundreds of attempts.

My order would be closer to demi's. I just don't like the Gunzerker because he doesn't get powerful until way late in the trees for me.

Sirens are awesome. I spec'd mine to have Ruin from the Cataclysm tree and Converge from the Motion tree so that multiple enemies are pulled towards my phaselock that simultaneously slags, corrodes, and electrocutes them (plus fire from Helios).

Mordecai
Commando
Siren
Brick (whatever the hell he is)

Really?

I did Mordecai first run, but then Siren and Brick.

Siren was kinda cheating though.

I think I didn't bother with bloodwing because of confusion over his status with the patches.

Of course I intended to beat the game with every class at one point.

And then some co-ops from the start.

And now I have the last part of Claptrap's to beat with a Siren and yet...

gunzerker is awesome if you spec it right, i am basically a bullet and health regenerating machine now when i click gunzerk, i cut through badass loaders like butter

mechromancer's just goofy fun, i laugh every time i hear some bandit scream offscreen and see xp pop up

i don't like assassin because his skill suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks at the beginning of the game

siren isn't that great at the beginning, either, phaselock is fine but when you have a group of bad guys charging you it's hard to focus on just one

commando is great for shifting aggro away, and that's about it - his dialogue kinda sucks
Title: Re: BORDERLANDS 2 THREAD
Post by: demi on October 16, 2012, 10:39:54 AM
I play support and prefer to snipe from afar, so I like Zero's hide ability, and Siren's Phaselock keeps an enemy in place for me as a pop some heads.

Post by: Eel O'Brian on October 16, 2012, 10:41:48 AM
yeah, i am more of a "charge in" kind of player (although i do tend to use sniper rifles quite a bit since i seem to be getting the best weapon drops in that category)

What level do I have to be to clear : You will die, (seriously)

50
I asked a stupid question here, malformed due to being under the kosh. I wanted an idea of what gear you guys used, I'm playing through vault hunter mode now to get the levels and loot needed.

Rankings:
Borderlands 2
1) Siren
2) Mechro
3) Assassin
4) Commando
5) Gunzerker

Borderlands 1
1) Siren and Mordecai tied.
3) Soldier
4) Brick

lulz. I saw someone on my friends list who was a level 72 which I thought was a bit odd. So I asked him how he did it since I know he doesn't have a modded xbox.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8klSxFJJws&list=UUZgR2F4byo7r6NxfrtMYe_Q&index=2&feature=plcp

Apparently pretty easily.

Gearbox Probably should have had server side gear for online matchmaking although I'm sure they will eventually try to break the mods.

I think that stuff is fine for offline play. Do what you want on your offline profile or on your own xbox. Who cares kinda thing. I don't think it should be that way for online play for lots of reasons. Not to mention I think a lot of people are gonna end up getting banned for this stuff whether that is right or wrong.

Man, this game is getting pretty rough for me at level 31. I'm getting shitty drops (still using weapons from the leveled to the early 20s because I'm not finding anything better), and that chest in sanctuary just keeps giving me doodoo shields.

They should label it that with one of those distinguished mentally-challenged fellow bandit signs

RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE

So, yeah.  Got this on the Steam sale.  Kind of wish I'd bought it earlier, because I promptly played it for five hours.  It's fucking awesome, although I did run out of ammo on the first bullywog or whatever boss and had to HARDCORE PUNCH IT TO DEATH with my syren.  Got a bad ass pistol that sets shit on fire, just made it to Sanctuary.  Having a blast so far.  Favorite little bit of flavor so far is a sign on an outhouse that read, "poop hut- no fappin"

Are you using elemental weapons to it's full advantage? In playthrough one it isnt really that critical, but in NG+ you absolutely need to be an elemental master Often times it is the difference between slicing through enemies like butter and fighting for your life when a midget shotgunner looks at you funny.

It's weird, a lot of games (thinking Skyrim, Saint's Row 3) where there's a big open world sandbox experience, I'll just explore and dick around.  Haven't had that with this game at all- I'm all about DOIN ME SOME MISSIONS N SHIT.

About half way through the game, I just started systematically doing side quests- I'd go to an area, and do ALL the sidequests in it.  Then, when there's nothing else to do, I'll do the next main quest, which usually triggers a fuckton of new sidequests for me to enjoy.

At Gearbox's PAX East panel today, the developers of Borderlands 2 announced that players maxed out at level 50 will finally be able to get to leveling their characters again. As of April 2nd (next week!) you can download what is basically DLC for 11 extra levels (that's up to 61).

But it'll cost you $5 for the add-on, unless you've got that nifty season pass.

The add-on will also come with the return of the Pearlescent weapon type, which was a set of high-level weapon drops and an extremely rare find in Borderlands 1. We haven't seen this weapon type in the sequel yet, but if you download the add-on next week, you might see it pop up here and there if you're lucky to find one of those crafty little guns.

Exciting changes are coming to Borderlands 2 on April 2, 2013!

As you may have heard, the team has been hard at work to raise the level cap -- an effort that required re-balancing, re-tuning and re-testing the entire game -- along with adding a third playthrough, more ammo upgrades, additional backpack slots and more!

Here's what players on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 can expect that day:

Changes in 4/2 Software Update (Free)
Adds new items to the Black Market:
One additional ammo upgrade for each ammo type, at 50 Eridium each.
Two more backpack storage space upgrades, at 50 and 100 Eridium respectively.
Two more bank storage space upgrades, at 50 and 100 Eridium respectively.
Increases the maximum amount of Eridium players can hold from 99 to 500.
Adds a new playthrough balanced for top-tier play: Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode.
Various bug fixes.
Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack
(Free with Season Pass, $4.99 / 400 Microsoft Points separately)
Raises level cap to 61, allowing characters to gain 11 additional levels.
Characters gain a skill point with every level from 51 to 61, for a total of 11 more skill points.
Powerful new "Ancient" E-Tech relics and rare Pearlescent-grade weapons can be picked up in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode.
Check back soon for a detailed look at the gameplay changes in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode (UPDATE: find that here) along with details on the various bug fixes in the update, and don't forget there's more to come for Borderlands 2: Krieg the Psycho, a new playable character, arrives in May with the fourth campaign add-on (included in the Season Pass) hitting by the end of June!

Quote
Among the level cap increase and various other changes coming to Borderlands 2 on April 2, 2013 is a new playthrough -- Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode -- built for challenging high-level play.

Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode differs quite a bit from Normal Mode and True Vault Hunter Mode -- here's a quick rundown of the major changes:

Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode Details
Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode is unlocked for a character once they have completed the main story missions in True Vault Hunter Mode and reached level 50.
Unlike other playthroughs, Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode can be replayed multiple times with players able to reset their overall mission progress at any time from the Main Menu.
No more tutorial missions -- characters in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode begin in Southern Shelf with the "Cleaning Up the Berg" mission.
While playing in Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode, enemies and bosses will scale according to the player's current level or, if playing with others, the highest-level player in that party.
Gameplay changes in UVHM:
Enemy health generally increased 4x.
Enemies now have a moderate amount of health regeneration.
Increased duration of slag damage multiplier effect.
Upped the damage that slagged enemies take from 2x to 3x.
Weapon swap speed increased to better facilitate slag use.
Enemies now more likely to drop ammo.
Loot Midgets are now "Legendary Loot Midgets" that can drop Legendary and other top-tier gear.
Check back Monday for details on the various bug fixes in Tuesday's update, and don't forget there's more to come for Borderlands 2: Krieg the Psycho, a new playable character, arrives in May with the fourth campaign add-on (included in the Season Pass) hitting by the end of June!
