THE BORE

Working from home today so decided to dl the Resident Evil 6 demo.
I am a massive fan of 4 and 5. I plucked down 60 hours of RE5 in a week, getting 1000/1000, and I've never played that game on co-op once. So I'm familiar with all the issues have with that game.
But this demo is pretty bad. For starters, it lacks the exploration of RE4 and even 5, it's corridor after corridor. On the Leon section, that's not so bad, because there are A LOT of zombies - particularly one section in a tight ass cramped hallway. But that doesn't change the fact that the game presented in the demo is pretty standard shootin' third person shooter. The demo never lets you alone to soak in the atmosphere, it's Hollywood thrill after thrill. Escape from a horde of zombies? RUNNNNN! Repeat. There's even an overly long - and just as silly - section where you fire up a car all with qte. It's like they took a look at RE4's qtes - one of the few games that does them right - and said,"let's do the opposite of that".
Despite the fact the game is single player the whole way through the first time you play the game - no co-op option, it still feels co-op centric. On the Leon section, I never really felt alone and oppressed because his lady friend was with him. I got to one section and had to wait for about 15 seconds for her to reach me.
My main grievance is the that it feels co-op centric, though in this one you don't have to manage your partners inventory. There's no more dedicated knife button, which means you have to actually switch to the knife, which makes using it a pain compared to RE4/5. Contextual qte's aren't as fun or satisfying as shooting a villager in the knee cap, running up, and planting his face on the ground. There's something off about the controls, and I can't explain why. They're more loose, and less tight compared 4 and 5.
The demo seems to suggest their direction of the series even further, for example - you can hold infinite items now too? There's no item limit?
I mean, it's okay, but it didn't make me want to go through it multiple times like the RE5 demo. I'm not so sure about this game and after the demo, I may just wait for it to come to pc and wait for a Steam sale. What I got from the demo was an uninspired, generic, schizophrenic product that is pandering to a particular demographic. Does it want to be a horror game? Or a full on shooter? Or a high budget Hollywood Gaming fest? I don't know! Definitely not worthy of 60 dollars based on this demo unfortunately.
Maybe most of these problems are because it's the demo, but I'm not quite sure.

Probably shitty parts of the demo. I got my Archives edition (comes with, RE4, RECVX, RE5, Degeneration movie) pre-ordered, ready to go.
-
How are you downloading this? From the XBL dash there's a big tile that says "THE DEMO AWAITS", when you click on it it takes you to a blank game page with nothing on it. Derp derp MS
-
I know the European PS3 demo hit last night. Maybe that?
-
Go to games tab, then game marketplace. Jeez, Mr. Nuff.

I'm hoping that's the case.
-
Tried that, there's no demo. I'm on a Gold account too. WTF
-
Chris section is horrendous.
-
Wow. Jake section. Whatever this game is, it's not Resident Evil.
-
-demo lol
-
It cant be worse then RE5, which really didnt feel like RE in the 20 min I played and got bored
-
Marketing insists it'll work
-
FUD

its a shooter, yeah, but that's where the series has been since 4. difference is that now it finally has real game controls instead of tank controls! biggest problem for me was that the game is piss-ugly and has framerate problems. still fun tho; will buy. haters have fun with your 3ds rpgs.
-
Nobody listen to Himuro he's full of nostalgia fueled fanboy idiocy! I played the demo and it's fine. The gameplay seems to have taken a hint from Vanquish with the level of agility you have, and melee moves spend chunks of a rechargable meter.
Looks great and a rather linear iteration on the mechanics from 5. My only real problem is the eye-rolling, Resident Evil movie-tier script.

Have fun with a shooter that doesn't have a dedicated cover button. "How do I use cover?" *gets shot* "HOW DO I USE COVER?" "Maybe I'll use the A button." *jumps over cover* "???" "HOW DO I USE COVER?"
Also, shooting is shit. Melee is shit.
Expected from someone who has spent as much time as you playing shitty mass effect 3 multi. Let's make ALL GAMES PLAY THE SAME. People like you are ruining gaming and you are probably one of those idiots who complained WHY CAN'T YOU MOVE AND SHOOT?

Between RE4 and 5 I have spent over triple digits with both games across four platforms.
I have more authority with this than you do.
The controls are TERRIBLE for a game like RE6. Character movement is too loose. Aiming is horrendous and scattered. Despite being more action-paced, 4 and 5 have far more tight controls, particularly in how guns aimed and how they were handled. There is nothing satisfying about the combat compared to 4 or 5. The aiming is really, really slow. Enemies don't even react to damage anymore, contextual melee moves lack the satisfaction they do in RE4/5. The combat is really bad.
-
I'll never understand people who insult RE4's controls. You want tank controls? RE1-3 are right there. I've always thought RE4 controlled very well and fluidly.
Granted, RE4 had the idea to slowly ramp up the amount of enemies you faced (in general...), dunno if RE5 did that or just threw waves of baddies at you.

Agreed. But we are talking about idiots who want every game to play the same and think all games are homogeneous. RE5 has the same exact controls as RE4 with A-type control settings, and they work just as well. Then the demo came out and people were like WHY CAN'T YOU MOVE AND SHOOT WAH WAH I'M A BABBY.
-
Sounds like an awesome game, preordering now.
-
lol. Himu going into his rant phase... RE6 is gonna be hot. Quit hatin.
-
Gave the demo another shot. Yeah, not buying this. Aiming is horrendous. In RE4/5 I can do headshots and shot limbs blind; in this it's such a chore to even do headshots. Is the reason I'm struggling so much because I have a stagger -> melee playstyle to RE4/5? I've upped the camera and speed and it still feels atrocious.
-
Left the camera spin at default, upped aiming to 10.
Those who are having issues with the default controls, switch to classic. I'm having an easier time now, though the aiming is still mostly poor, it's much better.
-
himu i hate to be the one to break it to you, but there's a very good chance that you are a cockwad
-
himu i hate to be the one to break it to you, but there's indisputable evidence that you are a cockwad
:-*
-
that's what attracted me to yall in the first place
-
Played some co-op with Raban. Third or fourth time going through the demo.
Much, much better on co-op. Maybe I'll get it after all.
It's growing on me, but it still has some weird shit like, how do you use cover? Seriously. How?

So like RE5 then.
-
I dunno about that. RE5 is fine without co-op.

:lol
-
Eh, the demo was very underwhelming :I
-

No it's not. It's exactly the game you described in the OP. A wannabe 3rd person action game that doesn't even feel like RE =P
-
Shut up, Bebpo. Won't have you slanderin RE5 goty.
-
Just played hunky Leon, I'm not sure if I like this
-
Leon is derp
Go Amerika, go Chris
-
:bow Chris mode
-
Just played Chris
What in the fuck is this shit, it's like Call of Duty and Killzone fucked and had a mutated flipper baby with the worst cover system ever
-
Just played as Jake, uh I don't think Resident Evil is for me anymore
Those cutscenes are the best in the industry though, no one else has that kind of overall polish in terms of cinematography, mocap, rigging, and foley. Must have cost them a ton
-
I'm giving up on this. Also "BOW" is a stupid name for cool monsters
-
Jake section is horrible.
-
What is the breakdown of the game? Please tell me Jake and Chris are like 10% of the game
Or preorder bonuses
-
I don't even know. :(
How do you cover on the Chris section, seriously?

ready your gun and hit A by a wall -> go into cover
-
No nice Bonas then?
-
Not even if you defeat multiple enemies in a row
-
didnt capcom initially said that RE6 would be a complete reboot of the series? I guess they saw the dollar signs and gave a fuck about horror and suspense. Shitty QTEs blended with dudebro shooters and FF13 corridors will do the trick.

Yes, I remember that to. I guess they gave up that idea after they realized how creatively bankrupt they were with 5.
-
Why is Leon feeding my Tic Tacs to revive me?
-
I tried the demo...
The problem for me is the series no longer brings the elements that once interested me to play it. It's no longer a take off on Romero zombie movies which was the original draw and its taken the action focus of 4 which at the time was a decent action game relative to the competition but hasn't progressed it enough to really compete with the current action shooter games. I always gave Resident Evil a pass on the action because it was clear the series wasn't just an action game. But with 5 it became a pretty straight action game and you can't really hide the flaws and excuse the weak action. 5 was a step in the wrong direction for me. That demo seemed better control wise than 5 for me but ultimately more disappointing because it really is just an action game now. If the game wasn't named Resident Evil and it was just named something else I probably wouldn't even have finished the demo. Its just trading on my nostalgia at this point. I don't know. I'll probably end up playing it just because of my history with the series but I'm certainly not excited for it or anything based off that demo.
Unfortunate. Up to and including 4 this was my favorite franchise in gaming.
-
I played the Leon portion of the demo last night.
It's ugly. The controls are kinda shitty. Just didn't feel right. :-\
-
How's those cockwads, Gundam? Or have you gained taste in the process?
-
I thought the Chris portion of the demo was fine...reminded of RE5. The Leon part bored me and I died in like 10 seconds on the Jake (? What was his name?) part and didn't bother trying it again.
I am sure that I will enjoy RE6, however, so the demo isn't going to stop me from buying it.
-

Mighty tasty cockwads. Still buying the game, though.
-
smh.
-
The demo just sounds like shit, lol. It happens, RE5 demo was pretty wack too. It was just that silly arena part that was just wave after wave of enemies.
-
I remember hating the RE5 demo but enjoying the game.
However, something felt wrong about controlling Leon. Like it was too floaty or something.
-
RE4's demo was the intro bit at the start as well. Completely not representative of the final game. You're stoopid to act like this toward a demo.
-
The demo was OK.
Played the Leon section first and found it enjoyable. Reminded me of the old REs a little bit, and I was having a good time doing headshots (switched to laser sight before starting and found it good, haven't tried crosshairs). So I stopped after a few minutes and thought "don't wanna spoil it, this is pretty fun, I'll buy the game".
Then I tried the Chris bit and after a few minutes of "WTF is this COD shit" I'd had enough.
The Jake bit was sort of OK I guess, not as bad as the Chris bit. Didn't like how dodging left you on your back on the ground.
I'll buy it, but it would be great if if was just 100% Leon section.
