Apple Maps for Japan seems good, entire stations are missing and some are mislabeled as random nearby places

This is the station Mr Gundam always goes to!
Not gonna update LOL

yeah, I think I'll hold off on updating.
I use google maps on my iphone quite a lot so this right here might be a deal breaker for me with getting an iphone 5. Originally I was hesitant to leave because of all the money I've sunk into itunes over the years but really the only thing I'm using my phone for is phone stuff - texting, phone calls, and GPS/maps. All the apps and music are for my ipad and ipod(s).
Galaxy S3, here I come.

Kind of what I figured. :lol
I like my iPad and will still probably get an iPhone soon, but good lord Apple fans are funny people.
Apple should just bring in Bing Maps. Not like Microsoft is a threat to them in the mobile space.

Loved the Hong Kong one where its sparse as fuck compared to the Google version but hey the Apple store is marked :lol :lol :lol :lol

Apple Maps :bow2 This shit is gold
I was thinking about getting an iPhone 5 but this is a serious killer for me. Google maps is so damn accurate this morning I was lost trying to find a the office for a meeting but none of the buildings had numbers, so I used G Maps which was nearly accurate to a metre of their front door in a street full of high rises. Google :bow2 How long until Apple caves and reallows people to download Google Maps?
Realistically, I think it'll be at least a year before the Apple app is up to par. I don't know why they didn't wait until the next iPhone.
My iPhone 5 isn't supposed to come for another two weeks, so I'm assuming I still have plenty of time to cancel the pre-order. And I am seriously considering switching to an Android phone now.
i just switched to android from a 4s two weeks ago. pretty positive experience so far.

galaxy s2. wanted a nexus but needed micro sd slot.
i'm not complaining. crapwiz isn't that bad. i downloaded apex launcher and now i am good to go anyway.
only downside to the nexus at all is the lack of sd slot.....would have bought it straight from google in a heartbeat.

What would you use it for? Videos?
I think they automatically download it at least once you're on wifi. But you can choose when to install it because it would require resetting your device.
oscar dawg, I haven't defended nintendo in a while. I'm thoroughly uninterested in the wii u at the moment.
The LTE thing is valid, I agree, but I'm just happy I have it now.
well yes, you obviously have exchanged your member card, but you don't stop being a donkeyfucker just because you stopped fucking the donkey, brandyboo.
They say that they need to put it in the public's hands to work out the kinks, I'm wondering how could that help? Will people just manually update whenever POI or street names are wrong?
I really, really dislike the map app. It doesn't matter if its getting some results wrong while the rest is rest, the bottom line is that ain't damn reliable and I wouldn't trust with my life like I did with google's. And now they're telling me to be patient, but for how long, and with what metric should I measure its accuracy? When I stop arriving at the wrong airports or train stations?
Android is the cheap Chinese knockoff of iOS.

Oh, of course. The Chinese were the first to make a map of the whole world.
I'm genuinely beginning to regret regretting running you out of here.
it's so odd you're having that wifi issue feelbad. On four separate iOS devices I've updated to 6.0, none of them have had that issue. I wonder if its a router incompatibility
which is still shitty on iOS 6's part

I sideloaded it, everything's fine now. ^_^I got my update earlier tonight. :D

Isn't it so good? :DEverything feels smoother and more responsive. I'm actually not sure what was added besides Google Now, which is pretty cool. I might start using voice commands on my phone more often.

Still bitter about maps, but I'll have to live with any alternative for now. The fact that I'm using Google's youtube and map webapps while I wait for their native apps to be approved really makes me think I've chosen the wrong brand of tablet.
I've been using Swiftkey X since I got this phone. I'll try out the default keyboard to see if it's better.Isn't it so good? :DEverything feels smoother and more responsive. It's basically Google Now + better notifications + 60fps animations + predictive keyboard.
The animations in the camera app are so cool. :o Makes me want to take more pictures actually, and I already take a lot!

Huh? The native YouTube app is out.
The JB keyboard is different from the ICS one in that it will try to predict the next word you'll type before you've typed a single letter, based on what you've typed so far.
So, typing "the quick" will pop up "brown" as one of the next suggestions, then "fox" after that. It lets you bang out often-used phrases very quickly.spoiler (click to show/hide)I typed that example up without knowing if it would actually work, but I just tried it and it does.[close]

Yeah that's what Swiftkey also does. I can often type a text message by just pressing the space bar.
I need to try the JB keyboard. But I've got a Sprint GS2 which will probably never get it and a Transformer which Asus is dragging their feet on updating.

The iPad version isn't out yet, but going by rumors it has been submitted a few weeks ago.

As well as detailing the update for the Galaxy S III, Samsung also released a full list of devices that will be upgraded to Jelly Bean. The list includes ten phones: the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Chat, Galaxy Ace 2, Galaxy Beam, Galaxy Ace Plus, Galaxy Mini 2, and Galaxy S Duos; four tablets: the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Galaxy Note 10.1; and an unknown device, the Galaxy Music (we've reached out to Samsung to confirm the mystery device's identity). As with the Galaxy S III, the timing of the updates will vary depending on your location and wireless carrier.
Man, I am such a dumbass. I'd rolled back to iOS 5.1.1, but I was reading all these "solutions" around the internet, and since Apple force-downloaded that 2GB iOS 6 file to my iPad, I figured I'd upgrade again and give some of them a shot. No go, on any of them. I can't even roll back again, it's giving me some "unknown error." So now I have a pretty much useless iPad.
I read somewhere on the Apple board where someone actually suggested buying a new router as a solution.
...
Yeah.
Sounds very lame. Did you fix it in the end? Or ended up with an iBrick?

Probably, lots of folks are having it with different routers. I've gotten it to where it gives me an hour now before it craps out, then i have to reset my network settings and input everything again. Can't chance doing anything wifi related that i might lose, though.

Finally got this shit working. I went to the router downloads page, downloaded the zip file of the firmware, and just reinstalled it. Seems to be working fine so far (since last night). So, if you're having wifi issues, try reinstalling your particular router's firmware, even if you're on the latest version like I am. Won't hurt anything if it doesn't work. It's a definite iOS 6 bug.

Did you try to hard reset your router before flashing it? Might be easier for some.

Andy chan, you're really doing it wrong. Reel it back and reevaluate.
I hadn't been to Daring Fireball in a while, so I checked in today. Gruber's working overtime to dodge the maps fiasco :lol Is there an Apple cock he won't suck?

because it's affecting many different people with many different brands of routers, and there's no guaranteeing what i did will work for everyone who's having the same exact problem i am?

My wife, myself, and some other family members have all upgraded to iOS6 on iPhones and iPads. We haven't had a single problem. It runs better and I've also noticed that it now allows me to transfer new comics to Comic Zeal much faster than before.
I have no complaints -because I am ignoring the Apple maps app- and am looking forward to getting an iPhone 5 next week. My iPhone 4 home button is messed up. Tried cleaning it with different methods but nothing has worked.
I upgraded to iOs 6 last night on the iPhone, the only differences I see are:
1. Maps suck balls, but are pretty hilarious to mess with.
2. People on my Facebook friends list now show up as phone contacts (with their phone numbers)
Just ordered an S3 today. It'll actually be my first ever smartphone.
SO EXCITE

Yeah, no reason to get the 5 so I'm getting a S3 in December. Unless something better comes out between now and then.
The only reason I would want buttons is if it's a full qwerty keyboard. Otherwise give me more screen space

"Use mapquest, Bing, or you know, google maps' web app (same service we pompously yanked) until we sort our shit out."
What an embarrassing episode.
Why should I get a nexus over an s3? Give me a detailed answer and not this "jellybeans" one-word answer reply bullshit
What is touchwiz and why is it so bad for those of us who have never owned a smartphone
well i have to admit that Andrex was right about the Nexus. It is absolutely the best android phone I have used...maybe not in term of specs (S3) but stock jelly bean rocks socks.
touchwiz just isn't necessary.....i have no earthly idea why samsung thinks that it is.
But it's not that bad. Between choosing widgets and backgrounds and even launchers, even the android phones with bloatware on them give you a lot of customizability in making it look and function how you want. This is true.

so... get a smartphone at the end of this month or wait til nov or dec???
Nexus 4 should be announced this month. If you want power, wait for that. If you want the best bang for your buck, get the unlocked $350 GN from Play (https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=galaxy_nexus_hspa).
Apple Acknowledges iPhone 5 Camera Problem, Says You’re Holding It Wrong
Jesus Diaz
After initially denying it, Apple has acknowledged the iPhone 5's purple flare camera problem in an email to a Gizmodo reader. Their solution: "Angle the camera away from the bright light source when taking pictures."
Here's their complete answer:QuoteDear Matt,
Our engineering team just gave me this information and we recommend that you angle the camera away from the bright light source when taking pictures. The purple flare in the image provided is considered normal behavior for iPhone 5's camera. If you wish to reach me regarding this case number *********, please contact me at 1-877-***-**** ext. *******. I currently work Thursday-Monday: 7:00am - 3:30pm Mountain Time. If you reach my voicemail, please leave your name, phone number, case number and the best time to reach you. Email is ***********@apple.com.
Sincerely,
Debby
AppleCare Support
Long time Gizmodo reader Matt Van Gastel received this email after a long call with Apple support regarding the Purple Flare problem in his phone, which apparently is a feature common to every iPhone 5:
Initially I was told that it shouldn't happen and that it is strange. My call was escalated to a senior support individual who again said it was odd and shouldn't happen. I sent her some pics of the issue and she in turn sent them to the engineering team.
Her final response is what you can see at the top of this article. Some photography experts have speculated that the purple flare is a product of the sapphire glass covering the iPhone 5's camera.

So it is final, folks: Apple says that, if your photos have a purple flare, this is totally normal behavior of the iPhone 5's camera. You are just holding it wrong.
Also, it's not Apple's fault that the Sun is purple. [Thanks Matt!]
