Jokes aside, it's not Windows 8.
BTW, any Pandora users here? I don't care for music but MS announced that the upcoming Pandora app for Windows Phone comes with a 1-year free subscription for all users.

Nokia Lumia 920 at AT&T, Nov 9 Release, $99, Free Charing Pad While Stocks Last (http://www.wpcentral.com/att-lumia-820-and-920-coming-november-9th)
The Nokia Lumia 920 will be available this Friday, November 9th for just $99—a full $50 less than what Best Buy was pricing the device at just a week ago. In addition, AT&T will be offering a free wireless charging plate with each purchase of the Lumia 920 while supplies last. Windows Phone Central accurately brough you that news a few days ago. Preorders start tomorrow, November 7th.

HTC makes fantastic phones in every way that REALLY matters but GOD DAMN THOSE LUMIAS R HOT
-
"The HTC 8X will surprisingly come later in the month, before Thanksgiving but with no firm release date yet set. That device will command a higher price tag for $199 for the 16GB version and just $99 for the 8GB option, which will also be available California Blue and Limelight (yellow)."
I still can't decide between 8X and 920.

Unbranded and unlocked.
The only way here.
-
Im tmobile so my choice is made when it comes to winphonez
Coincidentally, my tmobile contract is up on the 9th and the selection of phones has made it a no-brainer to switch to ATT. ATT is more expensive but thanks to a company discount that I've never taken advantage of it will end up being the same price.
-
htc 8x in yellow comin' my way
-
Jesus that 920 looks fucking enormous. Why can't they just improve on the Lumia 800 design? Why is crApple the only company in the world that makes medium sized phones?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFvSxCZZtKQ
-
Don't bother with the 800, Ruz.
Shit battery and glitchy firmware. And WP7 is pretty much dead at this point.
I'd get the HTC 8S if I were you.
-
It's 4.3 inch.
HTC 8S is 4.0 which is closer to the Lumia 800 3.8 inch screen.

HTC phones are so great- they just aren't as pretty. I've had both the HD7 and Radar- good stuff

HTC phones are so great- they just aren't as pretty. I've had both the HD7 and Radar- good stuff
My HD7 started doing random hard resets after a year or so and finally crapped out a few months ago. For the last 3 months or so it was just hard resetting every day. I couldn't keep any music or anything. That experience turned me off of HTC phones a bit I think.
-
well im not like a phone scientist or anything

:lol
-
my HTC Android phone (a G2) got fucked up pretty quickly (the screen) which makes me wanna go Nokia. Never had any hardware problems with any of the cheap Nokia phones I used to have (the software on the other hand ...)
-
Not sure what it is that some of you like about the 8X over the Lumia 920. I wish I could afford a 2nd phone contract just for that.
-
Decided I'm going to ditch Tmobile in favor of AT&T for the Cyan Lumia 920. That phone is gorgeous as fuck. If complications arise from the switch I'll probably just get the HTC 8X with Tmobile.
-

I remember a story how internal documents of HTC basically formed a policy that their own phones shouldn't last to long and were more or less designed to crap out after a certain time.
I'm thinking about giving one of the Nokia's a chance when my contract runs out next spring, their old phones were reliable and I like their Win 8 phone design. Plus the W8 phone os looks cool. The biggest disadvantage probably would be the amount of apps, but the important ones will probably be ported soon and I don't really give a shit about mobile games&gimmicks.
Will the google stuff work good with W8 phones? Because how calender and gmail are working is one thing I really like about Android.
-
The built-in mail/calendar apps work out of the box with Gmail and Google Calendar. How well they work with them seems to depend on the person - I use them and don't really have any complaints, but I'm not a Google power user and have seen some people claim that they don't support some important (to them) Google features or don't support them well enough or something. You might want to do some research on that.
-
Thanks, sounds good enough, I'm no power user either. Just two simple but useful applications that I would hate to see not working properly on a new phone.
-
Yeah, one of my favorite things about MS approach to devices is that it places so much priority on working for services people already use. Thats totally the right way to go about it. Dont try to re-create an ecosystem that already works- thats just bananas.
-
Have they announced any of these phones for Sprint yet? I have a Titan 2 (got for free) that I love to use at home, I don't want to pay for ATT though. I love how everything gets connected so easily. Between this and Windows 8 I would be pretty happy. I might even give up on android for it cause its so nice and clean.
Maf hook a brother up!
-
FYI to any current ATT customers. People are reporting that they can get the 99 dollar price on the 920 without being eligible for an upgrade. They're basically giving these things away
-
Saw some Win 7.5 phones tonight at the cellphone store. UI looked like my Xbox dashboard. Man, if that's not going to confuse people who are hoping for Win8 Phone, I don't know what is.
-
My The Bore is really going gaga over this. Should I reconsider my Nexus 4 plans? I need legitimate advice and none of the shilling crap. I need something unlocked that will comfortably last two years, and I know next to NOTHING about Win phones.
-
What do you want to know?
Tell me your needs and I might be able to shi- I mean help.
Edit: "Microsoft has just announced that all WP8 updates will be over the air from now on (so you won't have to plug your device into your computer), and that all future Windows Phone 8 devices will be supported for at least 18 months after they're released."
http://gizmodo.com/5919970/windows-phone-8-devices-will-get-ota-updates-and-18-months-of-firmware-support
You will be covered for 18 months at the very least.

First off what's the current flagship Win 8, Lumia 920?
If so, I'd probably be interested in a head to head spec/price comparison between the N4 and an unlocked Lumia 920. And if we move on to software, I'd like to know how the platform is doing and how much traction its gaining. My first exposure to it has obviously been the desktop version of Win 8, and while its nice, it's still in its infancy. App support is a big factor; going from iOS > Android looks a lot smoother than transitioning to a relatively new platform, etc, etc.
Basically, I just need to know whether it's a good (better?) investment or not. I don't change phones too often, so I need carefully pick something that will still be active and attractive two years from now. In other words, I'm hoping the future holds better things for Win 8 phones that it did for Win 7 phones.
-
I'm not sure if I'm making sense. It's still too early in the morning and I haven't had any coffee yet.
-
Way too many questions
Fuck this get a Nexus
-
I know, right? :lol
Sounds like I have to do my own research. That what demi would have said, but in a more profane tone.
-
Don't know shit, but if App support is a big factor for you I can't imagine that jumping straight to W8 would be the best decision.
-
OK. Gonna have a go at it:

Yes. HTC are pimping the 8x as the Hero phone but they can keep trying.
If so, I'd probably be interested in a head to head spec/price comparison between the N4 and an unlocked Lumia 920.
Some quick shit I googled:
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Nokia-Lumia-920,Google-Nexus-4/phones/7471,7531

Look if your app exist here: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store
WP7 apps suffered from slow load times/resume but WP8 will fix that along with adding lots of new and native APIs/development codes and huge support for the multiple mobile game engines out there.

Thanks boo. I'll read through those articles right now.
-
Welp. Just pulled the trigger on a Cyan 920. This is my first flagship phone and I opened a new account with ATT. I don't stream video or download anything. I just surf the web so I hope 3 gb's will be enough.
Also, just noting that I ran through the process on the regular ATT site and the Premier site. The wireless charging plate only showed up (along with the pop up) on the Premier site for me. 117 out the door! Could not be more pleased. I'm excited :hyper
-
Gonna put in an order for the Cyan 920 tomorrow. Hopefully, when AT&T opens my digital butthole and checks my credit history everything turns out ok. I'm big on build quality and feel and the heft of the 920 sounds delicious.
-
Actually, does anyone know if / when / for how much you'll be able to buy an unlocked 920 (or any other WP8 for that matter)? Does this information not exist yet or is it not possible or do I just suck at Google today?
-

There have been rumors that the AT&T provided 920 is unlocked and its going for $450 off contract. But them being unlocked is unconfirmed.
-
Well hey gang- i've had two great HTCs so I DUNNO- musta got the phones from the REBEL FACTION within HTC
-
So I was reading up on the major differences in architecture between Surface RT and Win Phone 8 applications and I'm starting to get excited. Both of them share the same basic architecture using arm based processors and it is the first to actually use multiple cores for the OS. Android essentially uses one core for OS and the other for application purposes, and same with iOS. This is the first OS of its kind in a mobile platform, and its super easy to program for, I think I'm in love.
Sprint needs to get on the ball damnit. I want a 1080p HTC screen...
-
Hot damn. Picked up a red 920 this morning. My cyan didn't end up shipping so I went ahead and cancelled it. I couldn't wait. The build quality feels sturdy as fuck. The screen is gorgeous. Love it!
Everyone in my office uses an iphone. When I came in with my new phone they wanted to see it and most of them were so confused and frustrated regarding how to use it. I was blown away. But now I guess I understand why some people don't switch from the iphone. It's really all they are comfortable with.
-
Congrats!
I am not buying anything till my exams are over.
-
Curious what they found confusing/frustrating about WP, since it seems pretty much the same as iPhone in terms of how you interact with it (unlike Win8 which has some new gestures you have to learn). Or is it just having things in different places that's confusing enough by itself?

I assume the latter. I've never extensively used the iphone so I'm not sure how it really compares but anyone who has used other android phones or whatever have never had a problem with my phone. For example, they were in the photos section and were trying to access the camera from there. I showed them the dedicated camera button and I got a "How are we supposed to know that's what it's for?" They are all older though (late 30's hardy har har) so maybe it's just being so accustomed to something. I have no idea.
Congrats!

At least your restraint will allow you your pick of colors and accessories. They didn't have shit in stock for accessories.

Quite jelly, 920 isn't out here for a few more weeks. Hoping to get the matte grey one :drool
I have an iPhone 4gs for work so I can still drift back to iOS if needed but I'm looking forward to having something new.

Which is a reasonable question, but applies to the volume and power buttons equally well. Ultimately every interface will have a certain number of things you have to know or learn, it's hard to escape it without I guess covering the screen with labeled buttons everywhere (but then everything would be uniformly harder to find)

that's what I was saying. They're just so used to their iPhone that they disregard the learning curve with anything apparently. Oh well. I don't know why I was surprised. Its not something that's unique to smartphones
-
AT&T denied me online which means I have to go to a store where they'll want me to put like $200 down on top of the price of the phone or something cause I have nonexistent credit :sniffles I guess I'll get the 8X instead when it comes out for T-Mobile.
-
Played with a Lumia 920 a bit today. Looks great, it's great to finally get a Windows Phone with a high resolution screen, and the new start screen is cool, but the huge screen really did bother me a bit - I don't really care about the weight, but it just feels slightly awkward to hold with one hand and use with your thumb. Another thing which bothered me a bit was the new start screen animation that flies past the app list feels heavier and slower (I don't know if it actually takes longer or it just feels like it because there's more going on).
-
Just wanted to post an update about the phone and my thoughts so far:
I had some freezing issues and went to return my phone but they were all out. But they seem to have cleared up anyways. It froze 4 times in the first day but hasn't frozen in 4 days since. So I think I'm going to keep it.
Yesterday I woke up at 6am and finally got home from work at around 9:30pm. I used internet all day and listened to music for 2 hours in the gym and ran my app for the gym. When I threw it on the charger after 15 and a half hours I had 46% battery left.
I haven't disabled any background applications. They're all allowed to run. I don't use messenger though. As I said earlier, best battery life in any smartphone I've owned. Every other smartphone I've ever owned had to be recharged by the middle of the day because of my constant web browsing and listening to music.
The phone itself is just gorgeous. And I already dropped it once at the gym and it was solid. No scuffs or scratches at all. It's a fucking tank. Love it love it love it. I've also really wowed some people with the pictures it can take. It will replace most cheap point and shoots easily.
The weight issues are blown out of proportion too. The biggest issue really was getting used to holding such a big screen but I don't even notice anymore and the extra space on the screen is well worth it. I know some people complain that it gets tiresome to hold it up to your ear but I don't really make phone calls so I can't say but from my experience I have a feeling it's just whining (work out lol j/k).
-
Freezing/screen blackout/battery issue is a known issue with old Lumia phones, mainly the Lumia 800.
I hope yours remain solid because that shit can be nasty with my 800. Nokia firmware needs some major work which is why I am still torn between it and the HTC 8X.
-
Good to know. I skipped the 800 and 900 to wait for wp8 so I didn't know it was common.
-
It's nearly impossible to pre-order one here, stock is so low.

Same thing happens in windows 8 too. Its not just the phones that have that issue. Its strange and all I can say is that its annoying to live with cause once it bugs out entirely you have to delete the email app and reinstall it.
-
No issue here yet. Not on windows 8 or wp8. *knocks on wood*
-
I just got a new laptop and it has Windows 8 on it... I can say so far... I'm not a fan. I can see it being handy on a handheld or tablet, but desktop? meh... I had to download Classic Shell to feel comfortable. :P
I also can't seem to get the netflix app to update. what a pain in the ass.

I'm waiting on my 8X. I love the Blue they chose its almost like Supermans blue. I prefer it to the Cyan.

Getting back to what's important here, Gwen Stefani > Jessica Alba.
-
The tapered edges of the 8X feel so damn good in the hand. It gives this tactile illusion that you're holding a much thinner phone (its already pretty thin). All the Android and Apple peeps I've shown it to were absolutely jelly 8)
-
I am sorry, Blue.
I really, really wanted to get the 8X but I cannot live without Nokia Drive. Even though Nokia promised to bring it to all phones, I don't see any news about it.
I will wait a week or two for any news about it because I still don't fancy heavy phones.

I really like this phone. I think it's the first time a cell phone has wowed me since iPhone 3g. Needs more good apps, though. Especially more apps with live tiles. (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=44687676&postcount=2315)

I tried the 8X, it is ok but too HIDEOS looking for me to want to blow $500 on it. The 920 is sweet but the carrier-industrial complex doesn't seem to want me to have it.
I am leaning toward just getting a Nexus 4 but that seems to be impossible to find atm too. Andrex? Hook me up?
-
>Nexus
You traitor.
-
The 8X is beautiful you SHUT YOUR MOUF
-
I have sort of talked myself into getting the 8x despite its indisputable uglitude
-
you will regret this
-
At least this will put me back on the upgrade train for a while. Right? Right?
-
Ordered a Nexus 4 - if Microsoft's OEMs don't wanna sell me an unlocked phone, I guess I'll go elsewhere. Fuck tha carriers.

I love my 8x FUCK HATERs

Just bought Dragon's Blade and yeah, I can get into this. The instanced dungeons sort of feel like Star Oceans bonus dungeon. Very cool.

Launch of the Lumia here has been a trainwreck. Stores in the CBD getting 2 handsets, black only. 2-3 weeks for more stock.

But...but...I am used to waiting...
-
Finally scored a red 920!
Still weeks away here :'(
-
It's OK. The more you wait, the better it will be because OS has some nasty bugs (HTC = freezing bug which just got fixed today and shit battery with the Lumia 920).
-
Our carrier here has a bug where text messages over 160 characters dont get split and get charged as an MMS which isn't included in our cap plans, so you pay extra.
-
My battery on my 920 is ace :D Sucks for others out there. But I can get by on an average day and still have anywhere from 60-75% left
-
It dies after like...4 hours of use on 3G for me. Because the coverage around my work and home place is shit.
-
good lord. Yeah I'd be pissed. Mine also doesn't seem to get warm like other people have been experiencing.
-
Got mine yesterday. Only issue I have is that it isn't synching some of my podcasts, and podcast support in general sucks. Otherwise it's awesome.
-
You in Australia, correct?
A nifty feature in Windows Phone 8 ( and Windows 8 ) is the ability to switch store regions by a flick of a button. Just go to settings and change local region to the US. Reverting back is possible with whatever apps installed still intact and working.
I don't follow Podcasts but the US store should be better overall.
-
Yes in Australia. Tried that but it's still giving me the local store. Unless I'm doing something wrong.
-
Weird, it should work:

-
That's annoying. Some in the comments are saying it doesn't work either, wonder why?
-
Hotmail account region related, perhaps? Or the language used in the phone?
-
Might be hotmail. Language was English US. Could just be some of the software the local carrier has put on it.
-
24hrs later and I'm still drooling over this screen. Total god-tier shit
-
Been two weeks now and besides the above mentioned podcast situation and the lack of some games like Caracsonne that I play against friends I don't miss iOS at all. Taken some awesome photos as well.
-
Switching to this for work phone, Verizon only so 822 or 8x. Kinda torn, leaning 8x
-
8X and lumia 920 are the only ones you should ever consider right now.
-
Nokia Drive+ is now available on all WP8 handsets.
Should have bought dat 8x lol

-
8x = 1280x720
822 = 800x480
not a tough decision, broseph
-
Thinking about the 8S for my girlfriend.
