Title: Thanksgiving Thread!
Post by: Joe Molotov on November 18, 2012, 09:28:46 PM
Got the week off. :rock

Beat Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward on my PS Muerte this weekend, gonna start Persona 4 Golden next week, and watch Harry Porter and Spartacus. Maybe all three at the same time, because I have the technology to do it!

I have to work Tuesday from 2-10, which I'm actually happy about as it gives me an excuse to get out of family shit.

Wednesday and Friday I plan on playing the shit out of Diablo3.  Because I have a problem.   :-\

Get yoself some 5-HTP bro. It's a legal supplement. I used to use it. Helps with seasonal depression.

I now use (really pure) LSD for that purpose. Best anti-depressant I have found to date. I DON'T GIVE A FUCK THAT IT'S ILLEGAL.

Turkey the size of a medium fryer chicken is ¥8000, so it'll be ham at Casa de Chronovore.

Or maybe curry, in the tradition of thanking the Indians who helped the pilgrims. :teehee

Someone decided to make all of the decisions on Thanksgiving this year, so I get to pick everything up. Someone ordered a stupid fried turkey at Popeyes, this ain't gonna end well! I'm making up mashed potatoes, home made distel turkey gravy, fresh cranberry sauce, and the missus and I have decided to make pumpkin and apple pies. Oh and I'm making up homemade Hawaiin rolls and some black bread rolls. I've got a back up turkey roast I'm gonna bring just in case.

As per shopping this year

I've got stuff on layaway from Walmart including a few games that some of yall asked me to get. Which I'll pick up at 9am on Friday and get the price from 8pm on T-Day. But before I do that I'm going to be waiting to get a Surface RT at the Microsoft Store. And before that I have to pick up a few board games at Target and some movies at Frys. Its gonna be a busy night.

If you do this greenman please note that you need to make a payment in the sale period. That is the only way to guarantee that you'll get the BF price. Layaway will open at 9am at all stores on Friday the 23rd. The games are on sale till 11am on the 23rd as per Walmarts online ad.

I'm already getting stuff for others, consider it a sort of gift. I'll buy them and you can just pay me back at cost, I'll ship it for free since your such a nice guy! Denote which console you want them for.

Would you let them come over if they asked if they could come for dinner?

Oh fuck no.

1. We already invited my parents, and his parents don't play nice with my sweet, easy-going family. They have already ruined far too many family events/holidays for my mom.

2. The last couple of phone conversations didn't exactly go well. (Surprise!) They have deemed that we are at fault because we asked them (in the nicest way possible) to not be assholes. They are offended that we are offended by their obscene behavior and want us to "make things right" or else we're "out of the family." My husband and I BOTH have MIL-diagnosed postpartum depression which leads us to be overly sensitive to comments, such as my MIL telling our baby she was unplanned. She knows all about PPD because she had it after she adopted my husband. Apparently you can have depression due to the hormones changes due to pregnancy and delivery of a baby even if you've never had a baby.

They've only seen the baby 3 times ever. The kid is almost 5 months old! Blame it on us all you want, but we're not the ones missing out.

:bow Len :bow2  I'm glad you're finally MIL free!!

2.5 day work week.  But it's going to be hell.  Last week I was busy on a project so all my regular work built up and today I'm playing catch up like a motherfucker but since everyone is on vacation I'm still swamped.  Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

Wednesday night is Assassins Creed 3 night.  Thursday afternoon is lunch with my family.  Thursday night is dinner with the wife's family.  Black Friday at 12am at Best Buy and then sleep and gaming and movies Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Don't be depressed dude, whats up with family and stuff? Do you not have any to go see? I'd come see you and spend some holiday time with ya. Maybe get on chat and regal you with my life's tribulations. Like the story of how I had to crap in public! Or when I was in the city and got hit on by a sleuth of cubs.

T-day update:

Went to go pick up the prepayed turkey from Popeyes, the missus family choice not our own. When I went to give them my receipt they told me they sold out yesterday. WTF!!! So I spent the later half of the day searching for a fried turkey to satiate them all. I didn't find one so I went to costco, wtf was I thinking. Two mistakes were made today, but I got the last Diestal free range turkey. Yeah I payed $157 bucks on a turkey today.

Then I get told I have to cook it!

I wasn't prepared to cook. So now I'm in charge of cooking a bird here at my place then transporting that shit to their place. FUCK THIS DAY! Between this and the Wii U, blah blah blah...

I am in beer hell, here. The only IPA at the import shop was Ao-oni, which doesn't get reviewed well. So many shit beers, even the imports are crap like Becks and VB. I need to find some local Baird, Kiuchi, or Minoh. I may actually have to get to Minoh to buy it.  :-\

whoa $157 for a turkey? My mom gets hers at Whole Foods; I dunno what turkeys usually cost ha, but I'd imagine it's half.

I've never been a turkey guy though; it almost always tastes dry to me, but then again maybe it's an issue of how it's cooked. I prefer ham

Going over to the family's house again.  It's going to be so freaking packed over there because my sister lives in a small house that isn't meant to host 10 people.

Shit... now that I think about it, I'm going to have to host all of those people plus my step-brother and his wife in just a couple weeks, and my place isn't much bigger.  Good thing my step-sister-in-law is hot.  I'll sit next to her on my cramped couch.

The bird is out and getting to room temperature. I'm cutting up onions, celery, carrots, and rosemary to put in the roasting pan with some turkey stock. Gonna cook the bird breast side down since it was in a salt solution and all the moisture is gonna get sucked out of the bird. Then 2/3 the way through I gotta flip it.

we ended up making 8 pumpkin pies, the missus and I stayed up all night baking till 7am. We are only keeping one pie, the rest are going to family/friends. We had leftover's and so we made little ones, they came out like little assholes.

Oh man, G, dat turkey :drool

We hosted Thanksgiving at our house on the actual day for my mom and dad and sister. Did we keep it small and simple? Oh fuck no. Made the same amount of food as last year when we had twice the people.

There may have been more, because we couldn't even see the table. Even cooked an extra sweet potato and roasted a pumpkin so the baby could enjoy the feast. My parents bust their ass all day and watch the baby for free, so it's the least we can do for them. I can't afford to shell out the $1100/month we'd have to pay a daycare (because if I could, I'd gladly give it to them anyway), but I can cook a mad fucking Thanksgiving meal.

I still can't eat dairy with the baby, so only the salad and pumpkin pie had dairy. Had to do a lot from scratch to avoid it and so wouldn't taste like a "substitute", and honestly, it all tasted identical or way better than usual. My husband was in charge of the turkey and my mom the pie, but I did everything else with a teething baby attached to my hip. :rock Cookin yummy shits
