Title: Saigon "Cinnamon" is the worst!
Post by: Howard Alan Treesong on November 25, 2012, 05:01:58 PM: IT'S NOT EVEN REAL CINNAMON. :yuck It's a fuckin' cassia plant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saigon_Cinnamon).

In case you bozos have any questions about what you should be using, Ceylon cinnamon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinnamomum_verum)'s Latin name is cinnamomum verum, or "true cinnamon."

How the spice makers ever convinced Americans that "Saigon" was a mark of quality is beyond me. Maybe it's repressed guilt over the Vietnam war?

Real cinnamon is not cheap by any means, but it is worth the price of admission. I made some horchata with some vanilla bean pods and real cinnamon. OMG it was fantastic!

One had the regular whipped cream topping, the other hand a bunch of Saigon as topping. Some people were saying it tasted "exotic." Just a couple bites convinced me it was some ol' bullshit that ruined a perfectly good pie
