One of the recent Steam Greenlight games.

You play a dude stuck on an island. Your goal is to find a cure for a disease you have.

It has a really interesting mapping mechanic where you have to use landmarks in the game world to chart a map so you can navigate the gameworld. It has a thirst mechanic. Also a synthesis mechanic where you create medicine with plants and whatnot.

There's also a creature on the island that will stalk and kill you.

Seems pretty legit.

I want to play it, but I've been hearing that the jank is strong with this game. Probably wait for a sale, and to see if they patch it up any.

I love the realism and attention to detail, just wish there was a demo for it.

played little over an hour of this.

the mapping mechanics take a bit to get used to and it's not immediately clear how they work but I was able to figure it out eventually. Specifically mapping "unknown" locations. I can see dumping a lot of time into that system trying to map every inch of the island. it's not perfect since there are some situation where you know where you are but can't map anything because there are no known landmarks in the viewable area.

the game does a great job making you feel lost in the wilderness though and i encountered the islands predator while roaming around. i attempted to fend it off with a torch but eventually the torch went out and it killed me.

i don't think i'll bother playing this much anymore but it was an interesting experience.

it's about time the exploration promise of so many games actually demanded some kind of exploration. if there's a guy i need to find to supply me with some gem to treat my dick rot who lives near a collapsed bridge to the west of the nearest town two hills over; i want to count the hills to find the nearest town, i want to ask people where to find the bridge and i want to have to identify the dick doc off my own intuition.

i don't want a giant overworld map with a flashing "GO HERE" marker where every discussion just triggers the next stage of the objective.

This game is all kinds of kick ass survival, cartography, feels-having awesomeness, I'm just waiting for the patch to hit because the game is a broken, buggy mess right now.

I'm all for more non-combat games, and this is definitely an interesting one. I sympathize for ya about wanting a demo, Great Rumbler, but Giant Bomb did a fat gameplay video of it a while back that sold me on the game

Though of course, nothing beats playing the game yourself.
