terrible, so much wasted space
-
Lot's of things wrong with it, but it isn't completely broken I guess.
At least playlist controls are much better, but screw them for removing the "uploader's other videos" dropdown thing. Site is a lot less efficient to use now.
Also, cramming all that crap behind the Guide button is a massive UI flub. Either show it or don't.

Yeah, I hate that. I also hate how everything is pushed up against the left side. I need everything to be in the middle of the screen!!
-
yeah its like wtf am i supposed to draw dicks in this whitespace

That sucks.
Though I'm still in the "Look at all these videos! For free!!!" phase, which I'm not sure will ever wear off.

I thought I was the only one. Actually, it IS there if you're logged off but if you're logged in it's not. ???
-
Oh shit, they changed it. It's gone even if you're logged out now too. :rofl
-
now?

I prefer it to the one previous. playlists don't hang out on the bottom of your browser window (even when collapsed), they made all the buttons n stuff flat, they changed the position of the titles so that they can't get lost in the background should the ad du jour happen to be black (or white, because sometimes the titles are written in white) and I like the red highlights.
Don't like how the related videos stream seems to be entirely based on your search/viewing history rather than the specific video you are watching though. I see people complaining about the main page layout or whatever, but I never use that so it's whatevz 2 me.
Also seems silly to have the video window be off-center slightly, just to accommodate a slide in menu that you probably won't be using while actually watching something (rather than after a video is finished, or while a video is loading).

pretty much all of Google's properties have taken a gigantic dump over the past year or so.
fuck, how can you defend Google pulling free Google Apps email, Andrex?
-
I guess Nintendo acquired the previous layout exclusively for the WiiU

How said I'd defend it? It is what it is, crappy for people who used it for custom domain Gmails like me.

is there finally a dedicated app for ios 6? Or do they mean the website in the browsr?

Yup, this update sucks. For a while I thought something was wrong with my computer.

The iPhone app was recently updated with iPad optimization. It's pretty decent, almost as good as the late native app at least. All youtube links will launch it upon installation instead of linking you to the website, just like before.
-
Looks terrible. Who decides these are needed? Youtube was perfectly fine before.
-
Hate the titles at the bottom instead of the top.
-
All hail our Android tablet future. :bow
All these web redesigns with tablets in mind have been really shitty. SBN (a sports blog network) just went through one and it's awful.
-
I'm not a fan of the browser view, and I don't really understand the need to make it look nice for tablets, when tablets (and I'm assuming the iPad is included in this) already have their own YouTube app that works just fine.
The navigation on the Youtube site really sucks now. But I haven't really been a fan of anything they've done with it for the past few months...
-
I don't see how this is anymore tablet centric than the last design. Many of the UI elements are still way too small for fingers.
-
REALLY sucks now that their servers are being run by hamsters. Come on, Google.
-
I think I've suggested this before, but if you find a really good youtube video, download it and rehost it on a decent video site. One small step at a time.
-

It's clearly aligned with the gay tablet agenda.
-
I don't really care about layout or UI stuff as that's sort of opinion stuff. I just wish Youtube worked more. I swear about half the time youtube won't stream properly on my computer or ipad and its the only streaming site I have this issue with.

Same here, man. I got crappy rural internet, but I can still stream HD movies on Netflix, but when I try to watch a 360p video on Youtube, it loads like 2 seconds, stops, loads 10 more seconds, stops, then after about 30 seconds maybe it'll load the rest.
-
I have pretty decent FIOS internet and it still runs like crap for me.
-
It's definitely a problem on Youtube's side.
-
Youtube has really popped themselves in the butt.

It's working fine from a wired connection in Europe. Even the 1080p videos are more or less instant.

They had an interview with the director of that commercial in front of Fast & Furious 6 this weekend. I was like :comeon
-
Speaking of the youtubes, am I the only one that thinks their HD videos don't really appear HD?
-
The bit rate is low, but I do think they run in the stated resolution.
-
I've heard the argument that youtube isn't to blame, it's that the speed of light is too slow.
-

Kinda beats the purpose tho, doesn't it? Feels like 720p stuff on other sites looks better than 1080p youtube vids, and my monitor sucks at upscaling.
And the buffering issues are really weird. It sometimes works perfectly fine on big high res stuff and that it's slow as molases on a simple audio vid with a static bg image. I have the feeling it has to do with the popularity of a vid, stuff with lots of clicks works well most of the time while I've had problems with private videos.
-
I've noticed the same. I'm guessing popular videos are distributed between many servers while private videos with <50 views only appear in a single place.
I've heard the argument that youtube isn't to blame, it's that the speed of light is too slow.
No, not really. The only issue is money. If I upgrade my connection to 1 Gb/s then I should be able to download 7.5 GB/s. That's well enough for any video with lossless quality at normal resolutions. The problem is that no one would be willing to provide servers capable of sustaining such download speeds.
-
I figured it was them hinting I shouldn't spend so much time on yt. Has been pretty crappy lately, esp with long vids the streaming seems to time out occasionally so I have to reload the page. No problem with other flash video sites
-

Other way around.... 1 Gb/s = ~125 MB/s
-
Wow, time for me to go to bed. I've been awake for so long that my higher brain functions probably went to sleep a few hours ago. I meant 7.5 GB per minute.
-
I'm on FiOS too and youtube began running like shit for me in the past week.
-
I've got a direct fiber-optic line to my home, theoretically have god's own pipeline running into my computers, but YouTube has been ass for several weeks now. Everything else is beautiful.
-
The thing that pisses me off the most about youtube now is the fact that it doesn't display everything to mobile users. I hate to download tubemate app to get it to display as a non-mobile user. (tablet)
fuck youtube.
