That's one of the many reasons why I never got into that franchise. It's a shame really since I like both Disney and Final Fantasy.
-
Had Square released Birth by Sleep as "Kingdom Hearts 0" on the 360/PS3/Wii, I think the franchise would be in a very different situation today then it is.
The series has suffered from both death by spinoff and death by platform fragmentation. And the lack of an actual Kingdom Hearts 3 is tied with the lack of a Battlefront 3, in terms of facepalm-worthy business decisions.

Anyone have any inside info on what happened with KH3? as far as I know the first two were incredibly popular so it's weird to see SE relegate this IP to portable entries.

KH3 seems to be a victim of Versus XIII's vaporware-ness since that is what the kingdom hearts "team" has been tied up with for the last 7 years.
Why they don't just let the BbS/3ds team make it I have no idea. Perhaps vanity or an obsession in wanting to be in control of a mainline game?
-
I just hope that if it ever comes out, they negotiate the star wars and marvel license with disney.
-
i might like KH more if the series didn't take itself so seriously.
Nomura characters enrage me...the $1000 hair cuts, the use of colors, the outfits, and always carrying themselves with either a bewildered look or a smug look. Take FFXIII for example...the characters are supposed to be the rag-tag proletariat, but the character design says "buuuuut Nomura just couldn't help himself!" I see something like that pic with all the KH characters in black cloaks and it's just the very definition of pretentious. I say this as someone who has seen way too much performance art and modern art in general.

Less Disney, MO 'mura
ZIPPERS
I NEED ZIPPERS

Could never get into this series. The intentional crazy story that doesn't really to seem to have a point or make sense sure didn't help.
-
the reason i cant get into KH is because the gameplay just doesnt cut it as an ARPG. the camera is always too loose, the levels are always too boring, the hit detection is always too sloppy. it felt clumsy since the first game, but instead of tightening it up they've kept it largely the same.
-
I liked BBS' gameplay. but people said the other games aren't like that, so I never tried them.
-
Yea the story is fucking crazy but yet i still like the series :lol Plus its funny that as we go into it more the Disney side has less relevance.
Gotta play Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance one of these days
-
I thought the gameplay of BBS was actually pretty good. It actually had a nice skill system. The thing is(just like in 2) the level design is so shitty. I'm really surprised the games don't get called out for this more often. They feature incredibly bland places that feel like small rooms with nothing remotely interesting in how they look or what they feature.
When people talk about how Versus XIII is going to have this big explorable world, all I can do is kind of laugh. It's really doubtful when the teams previous games have anything but.
The towns of KH are about as awesome as the one's in FFXIII.

Why is Square so distinguished mentally-challenged about not putting their PSP games on PSN? Final Fantasy I & II, Star Ocean I & II, Crisis Core, and BBS are UMD only. :S
-
Final Fantasy I & II PSP are available in Europe since we never got the PS1 games. I'm pretty sure the Star Ocean games have been on the US PSN before.

Not intending this as a troll, but isn't this mainly a kids' game? If it's a kids' game, it makes sense to put it on platforms which are not only more popular with kids, but also cheaper to develop for than the stationary consoles.
-
Does it feature music by Gackt or was he just used as a model for all the characters?

I'm not an expert on demographics, but I would guess that the IP was originally targeted to older kids in their teens.

I wouldn't mind a digital Director's Cut release with Genesis removed.

well he's one of the main characters in the game, so i cant see that happening any time soon
-
And yet he adds nothing of importance.
-
Gackt is like the Eddie Murphy of S-E games.

None of Tri-Ace's games are available digitally so I imagine its a licensing issue with them. That or the relationship between Tri-Ace and Square Enix has soured so bad that they're not willing to even negotiate over digital rights at this point.

who the fuck is gackt?

How dare you call KH a kids game! I know plenty of creepy manchildren who love KH!
