I Am Alive is like $5; worth it?

Also, current flash deal is Forge; upcoming choices are between BioShock, HL2 and GTA Vice City.  I voted BioShock for the lulz.

I did. But I already had a GamersGate account. That seemed to be a key factor for people on GAF who also managed to get it. Once I got through the GamersGate pages to the one that sends you to PayPal I was able to buy it in like a minute and GamersGate immediately e-mailed that the games were in my account. (And my card got charged.)

Only have managed to get two-thirds of the keys though because of the site servers falling apart. Rogue Warrior will have to wait to be activated another day...

oops. yeah.

i've pirated it before, and I think the save file was messed up because I've never been able to do the tutorials so I've always found SC4 obtuse. Playing this store bought steam copy, and doing the tutorials however...it expands upon everything SC3 did in a much better way and explains the depth and secrets to playing in a far more fluid and friendly manner to the point where SC4 is no longer overwhelming for me.

What's up with half minute hero? Is it fun?

Half-Minute Hero is fun as hell. It's an RPG parody where you level-up in seconds and try to beat each area as fast as you can. You have a 30 second timer than can be reset a few times, but still you'll beat most levels in no more than 2-3 minutes. The mechanics are really fun, and it's good for picking up and playing.

Should I get Lego Batman 2 or Lego LotR?

Both games are pretty polished as far as Lego games go, I'd say go for whichever universe you like the most: DC or LOTR?

Yeah, I liked it. The shooting is generally pretty fun and the story is ridiculous is just the right way. More games should have stories like that, just lots of crazy stuff happening all the time and not caring about trying to be serious or meaningful. Also, being inspired by Blade Runner.

Tempted to get The Walking Dead just because some people whose opinions I respect on gaming (Eel, Treesong) have enjoyed it a lot.  The problems are... 1) I have no familiarity with the source material at all- have never read the comics or watched one episode of the show, 2) kind of over zombie apocalypse shit, 3) this genre is not really my bag and 4) I have been catassing Borderlands 2 SO HARDCORE since I bought it the other day that I'm not really sure when I'd get into it.

I will probably get Hotline Miami on the $5 deal- that looked insane and worth playing.

I can't really say Steam sales are shit because deals from Amazon, GMG, Humble Bundle, et al. are what they are because of Steam(works).  But the Steam sales are kinda bad nowadays.

Spec Ops was $5 on Amazon a month or so ago.  Now it's $10 as a daily deal during the biggest sale.  Stuff like that makes it less exciting.  I'm not saying these games aren't worth more money, but I'm less likely to buy and add them to my backlog.

I haven't bought anything from steam.  I got Dead Island from Amazon and FTL from the humble store.

And no meta game stuff where you're 'forced' to play trash like Poker Night at the Inventory or And Yet it Moves for tickets or whatever.  oh

I was fucking STUNNED at the 50% hitman sale right off the bat, that shit is borderline criminal if you consider launch day folks. Also plenty of opportunities to pick up Borderlands 2 on the cheap which is goty. Really this is just about a few things, most of which say more about gamers than STEAM as a service:

A.) Most of us in this thread have been around to see some STEAM sales- and with each year anything not from the current year has become more and more irrelevant to us getting a deal cause GASP you can only buy shit once.

B.) Competing services are stepping up their game and offering digital distribution options- some will argue they are offering better deals, but I don't know if that's really the case either.

C.) People like appearing thrifty/smart

D.) People like watching established institutions take a dirt nap

E.) We are fucking spoiled as shit, we buy more games than we play and then whine because STEAM isn't doing a better job perpetuating our not playing shit we buy. I own over 400 games. Didn't find a lot to buy during the STEAM sale? Maybe I SHOULDFUCKINPLAYSOMEGAMES

between this and the "wah my ipod isnt new enough" thread i think some of you need to reevaluate your fucking spending habits and put that shit towards something more productive.

As am I.  All I was saying is that the sale has gotten worse; not that I particularly care about it.  Sometimes I can't tell if people lampoon a caricature based on what's been read here or elsewhere.  Bleeding opinions from around the net, or w/e.

also, if anyone wants FTL, consider purchasing it from the main site.  Same price but you get a DRM-free copy in addition to the Steam key:  http://www.ftlgame.com/

Speaking of GamersGate and Borderlands 2, incase someone doesn't check the BL2 thread, the Season Pass is 50% off:

Code IAMANELDERGEEK takes another 75 cents off.

EDIT: Also, Mechromancer: http://www.gamersgate.com/DLC-BL2MECH/borderlands-2-mechromancer-pack-dlc

Code will take 5% off the cheapest thing in the cart so...

EDIT2: Appears GMG has the season pass for $10.50 with code GMG30-DPLIM-DN831

all of the above, but i'm guessing it's because most people have been through a few steam sales and are pretty caught up on PC gaming as a result.  I bought a relative shitload of games this sale, but I just built my PC earlier this year and didn't participate in a steam sale until this one.  A lot of games I bought were released over the past few years and probably shit that not a lot of people cared about because they've been on sale a bunch of times.

I bought a few spare things at amazon/gmg/gg, but it was mostly steam.

What in the bloody hell is with Civ V? I am interested in Civ V + Gods and Kings and none of this shit is informative. You've got Civ V goty edition, but it doesn't say what is IN the goty edition. Then you've got a goty edition plus a 10 dollar upgrade but again, no info on what's in this upgrade.

The GOTY edition includes:
Quote
All 4 Cradle of Civilization Map Packs (Mediterranean, Asia, Americas, Mesopotamia)
    Civilization Pack: Babylon (Nebuchadnezzar II)
Double Civilization and Scenario Pack: Spain and Inca
    Civilization and Scenario Pack: Polynesia
Civilization and Scenario Pack: Denmark - The Vikings
    Explorer’s Map Pack
Official Digital Soundtrack (Soundtrack not available on the Mac)
i.e. most of the (all?) smaller DLC stuff, but not the full expansion.

People buying heavily discounted games that they don't end up playing is a huge reason why steam sales are so successful.

It was another one of Gamersgate "accidental" sales, like when the Bethesda pack was $20 or the Borderlands 2 4-pack was $11.

I played it a little bit today, it's simple but fun. I'm getting some weird performance problems, though, and I'm not sure how to fix it. Doesn't crop up all the time, but every few minutes or so [usually during some transition or during loading] it comes up. Not a deal-breaker, though.

Verify cache or reinstall might fix that. The game also has a weird issue where the very first time you start it up it can take a very long time to actually boot into the game itself. Every time after that is fine, though.

since it was a gift i decided to give it one last go, so i reinstalled, followed the instructions in this thread:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1920141

disabled steam cloud and overlay, ran as admin, turned every background thing off that i could, verified game cache like 5 different times

crashes every single time when trying to launch, even after all that

so, that's about all the time i am willing to spend on hunted, it just refuses to run on my system for whatever reason

edit: just found out inXile is working on Wasteland 2...welp

Actually, it's electronics I have the most trouble with, PC games generally run okay for me even if I have to do a little work. I've run into some trouble with a couple recently, but still managed to fix all of it except Hunted. That game just isn't having any of me. Well, I guess there is also all the ongoing Steam bullshit, which I love as a cheap games outlet but still think is a piece of shit software-wise.
