Battles look better then that world engine, but is this all nintendo can do with the 3ds? :-\
-
It's Gamefreak. It's a miracle they even bothered with 3D.
-
I dunno, am I supposed to make special allowances for devs with disabillities?
Why can't Nintendo make one fucking exciting thing these last two gens. Swear to god. Just make one game that will make me see you've put in work you fuckers.
-
Sprites. :'(
Just doesn't look or feel like Pokemon. The art style isn't really coherent like it was in past games, but we'll see when it releases if that's still the case.
-
Yeah thats the one i havent played.
I know pokefans will be pleased and i think it looks kinda cool but only cause out expectations are so low.
-
Still locked to a four way grid. What's the point of going 3D then Game Freak. :lol
-
this is what happens when make a sperglord a king.
???
Do you mean Tajiri?
-
That's over the line Oscar. :wag
Also, hey, he's probably the most successful one ever. And I doubt he has much to do with the series anymore, from various Iwata Asks and whatnot. Seems Masuda's been the big bossu for a while.

What do you mean by this? You can only walk in 4 directions.
-
Heh Battles look fine, overworked - yeah - has a Level-5 whiff
I haven't gotten into a Pokemon game in a big way since the original - so I'm prepared to give it a whirl

Still amazed they didn't do NFC figures

Probably a last resort if these games don't bring the 3DS out of its western tailspin. They're not going to blow a big gun like that when new gen + new hardware has always yielded the best sales in the series (usually 13+ mil.)

Gross :/

Only thing I can think of is that they're saving it for a Wii U title

It make far more sense as a Wii U game, or a Wii U app that talks to X and Y, since the GamePad actually has an NFC reader.

Wii U or 3DS game? I'm not sure.

Game looks pretty shit tbh. Good thing I have like 5 other Pokemon games I havent played yet. lol
-
Looks like shit.

why put effort (read: money) into the graphics when it's going to sell the same amount either way
Nintendo is cheap as fuck...they take zero risks.
-
I think being cheap as fuck is risky and will kill them in the end.
They wont be able to rely on the same 5 franchises forever, the fanbase will erode if they put out dogshit like this.

It's likely a Game Freak decision, and a Game Freak talent issue. They never have put an emphasis on graphics (although, HG/SS looked fantastic, that was mostly them doing everything they could with the old top-down style.)

The good thing about Pokemon's demographic is that by the time they start to care about what the games look like, another generation of kiddies is ready to taste the rainbow.
Pokemon not having top of the line graphics won't be a hindrance to sales as much as kids not having 3DS's, or being unable to convince papa and mama to buy them one since they already have a smartphone and "Well Timmy, we already pay $60 a month for your phone, so I'm sorry but we can't get you that Pokemon player thing."
-
Andy this is the top nintendo franchise, if nintendo would want to spend money on it looking good they would make it look good.

Again, it's likely a Game Freak decision. They have more autonomy than most first party studios since their games sell so well. I'm actually mildly surprised Nintendo could convince them to make a Pokemon Direct for this announcement instead of using Pokemon Smash/Sunday/CoroCoro like they usually do.
Also, Mario is still Nintendo's top franchise. (recent best selling numbers: NSMB DS and Wii are > 27 million each, Pokemon DP is > 17 million, Pokemon BW are >14 million.) And Nintendo has put a lot of effort into Mario's graphics, but to less success than when they don't. (SMG is 10 million, SMG2 is >6 million)

lol it's not a talent issue. You really think the people hired to make Pokemon are putting every last bit of their talent into this and that this is the best they could get out of the 3DS? It's budget. I'd guess in most cases of shitty looking games, its budget.
They're not sitting there going "Oh man, I really wish I could put anti-aliasing on this, but I just have no idea how to do that! I shouldn't have gone to such a bad video game design school."
If it's a Game Freak decision, it's still budget.
Okay, whoever is funding the development of this game and/or calling the shots is cheap as fuck. Not that I'd need this for evidence of Nintendo's cheapness, as their output over the last 7 years or so plainly reflects this.

It's probably both. Current GF employees aren't technical wizards and like most Japanese dev houses they prefer to stay small even in the face of success. This has always been the case, but now it's more apparent since good 3D graphics requires more technical capacity than 2D (or 3D masquerading as 2D, in the case of the DS games.) Still, from BW and BW2 it's obvious this is the direction they wanted to go, so they should have staffed up.

95% of the fan base rotates out with every second or third game. There's little risk of erosion at this point with Pokemon. Kids in the target demo of the first game are having kids themselves now and draping them in Pokemon merch from the minute they escape the womb.
I guess, Id buy my kid Pokemon too.
Ill prob be a nintendo loser once I make some babies.
-
I'm not gonna front, I think this looks pretty hot, but then again I wasn't expecting much. Still not enough to get me to buy a 3DS again. Will wait for Pokemon Z and the inevitable bundle.
-
You can buy your 3DS back if you want
-
:lol
No thanks.
-
I really don't dig the new art-style. I could say the same for Gen-5's art-style but to be fair that had some interesting ideas and was still running in Gen-4's engine kinda...
That said, I think I may pass over this. They did Diamond/Pearl->1-2 years->Platinum->1 year->Gold/Silver remakes->1-2 years->Black/White 1->1 year->Black/White2->9 months->XX/XY and I'm just feeling the Call of Duty syndrome. I love the game/series but I can't continue on the treadmill.

Ding ding ding ding!

honestly, I got the tiniest bit excited when I read it was a 3D pokemon, finally.
then I saw the trailer and realize it's the same game, just with polygonal graphics.

Maybe Nintendo is just really smart, they will keep core expectations super low for 10 years (Wii + WiiU first 3 years) then announce a Zelda game which is up to date with current games. Core gamers would be so shocked they will buy WiiU's en masse.
Because of the super low expectations we will actually think its an amazing game, when in fact it's just an average game. Nintendo is conditioning us to be impressed with anything.

Kind of already happened with Twilight Princess except that game turned out pretty good (just not up to the insane expectations.) Nintendo doesn't really like building pre-release hype usually, hence games being announced six months before release.
-
Well back when they had something to hype they did it. Zelda Oot goddamn that was long wait.
Buying every mag out there that had a new screenshots, downloading movies from ign in sub 240p.
-
mark my words there's going to be some disturbingly creepy "X Y" shit in this game
-
Looks like shit as expected.
-
Looks good enough for what Pokemon needs to be. I wonder if Game Freak is getting any co-development help with this for the 3D world. Its not like Camelot or Genius Sonority is doing anything.

?

We can only hope.
-
Yeah if any game would get it, it'd be Animal Crossing. Which is a horrifying enough thought.
-
Finally. Told Aeana the other day the next Pokemon HAS to get rid of that top down shit if they're going full 3d.
Looks good considering. Ds?
-
Eh. Watched trailer. Looks really good considering. The animation is fucking stellar.

looks rad

Surely creating the first motion-sensing controller, while marrying it to its most iconic d-pad and two-button controller type, and incorporating that into traditional gameplay models in SMB, and plugging it into an actual steering wheel counts for something? I mean, what counts as exciting? You're listing the technical...
Jesus, the sumo on the TV right now has the hugest fucking ass. Just a giant wall of caucasian flesh, more ass than any heterosexual man was ever meant to see. The newscasters are making a big deal out of his bad knee. You want to know where that bad knee came from? Look about 70cm higher, to Hadrian's Wall, there. Jesus.
I've lost my train of thought.
