Title: Should of known your wrong
Post by: Smooth Groove on January 12, 2013, 04:56:30 PM
Any of you get annoyed when people text you with grammatical errors?

Some of my friends are driving me nuts.  I don't even know why they keep typing "should of" when they never say that in person.

Texting doesn't bother me as much because it's meant to be short-hand communication.  What really gets me when it comes to grammar and spelling is when people publish things online via their blogs and whatnot with those issues.

I have a friend that wants to be taken seriously on a blog he made for Nerdy Christians.  I can't even stand to read his stuff, no matter what the base content is, just because he misspells EVERYTHING.  They put spell-check on friggin' everything now.  Kills me.

I'll let it slide a bit as far as text messages go, but any other context makes me want to rage.

I don't mind the OCCASIONAL fuck up on a blog, because for the most part it's just some random dude spitting stream of consciousness style out to the universe.  They don't have editors, etc.  Plus, not everyone has mastered the skill of watching the screen while they type- lots of people still have to look at the fucking keyboard.

Pretty much anything else is infuriating, though.  I hate people who are lazy about it, too- "oh i just cant spel" and shit like that.  It's like, motherfucker, LEARN.

Yeah yeah, language is a social construct and always changing blah blah.

But it's a lot easier and less aggravating for me to read something that's written more or less correctly than to have to decipher something phonetically, interpolate the punctuation, and/or guess what a word was before spell check got a hold of it.

I...don't care

I'd be annoyed if it was a business or school related email but text...don't care.

The law is also fluid, especially Pascal's law.

Poor writing, like pointless spoiler boxes, causes the reader to exert needless effort.

I just don't like it when people are wanting to be taken seriously and they leave grammatical or spelling errors on their stuff.  To me, it's distracting from the subject at hand, and it's a sign of laziness on the part of the writer.

I try to type out coherent texts instead of dropping characters here and there. I also construct them like I'm typing out an email or something. Fuck it, keep it classy.

I excuse grammatical and spelling errors during a text.  A text is meant for condensed conversation.  If I understand what they're saying, it's all I give a shit about.
