Title: Can you name your top 5 games of all time?
Post by: The Sceneman on January 16, 2013, 11:15:14 PM
I'm trying to do this right now and having trouble!

Mine are probably:
- Castlevania: SotN
- Killer7
- Baten Kaitos Origins
- Dark Souls
- FFVIII
- Red Dead Redemption

although I'll probably swap a couple these out if I can think of anything better....

lol Katamari? Really? I can understand the Custers Revenge more...

I still need to play Chrono Trigger all the way through. Ditto for Super Metriod. I was playing an ILLEGAL ROM on my DS and the game kept freezing when some robot dude wanted to race me :( I'll just fork out for the iOS version at some point.

You know it, baby.

I don't see Katamari as whimsy, I see it more as a massive hit of acid and shrooms while you're stuck in Japan.

This is just the original game, not the sequels which lost a lot of that original crazy ass charm.

I always feel at odds trying to pick favorites, so I'll just list in no particular order the games I'm fairly certain I've played the most in my life:

1.) Heroes of Might and Magic III
2.) Final Fantasy Tactics
3.) Super Smash Bros. Melee
4.) Super Mario 64
5.) Hot Shots Golf Fore

Balance of Power
Super Mario 64
GTA San Andreas
Call of Duty 4
Resident Evil 2

Although probably only 2 of those are permanent. In a different mood I could switch out 3 of those for about 30 or 40 other games.

I thought 4 was amazing and maybe the game of that generation but Resident Evil 2 just hooked me in a way very few video games ever have. I think it changed my opinion on videogames and what they were capable of. It's probably very archaic to play it now but at the time it blew me away.

I have really fond memories of RE2.  It's definitely one of the better immediate sequels of all time in terms of iterating upon the first entry.  I still feel like RE4 is a better game overall, but they're both honestly probably in my top 10 if a bit out of the top 5.

People putting MGS2 down need to be shot.

Yeah I played the HELL out of it when it came out. Must've beaten it like 15 times. I remember A ranking Leon 2nd scenario in like 1:20:00 when I was 12. I was soooooo good at the game. Learned to speedrun it without FAQs or anything

In a game that's purposely so story heavy, if I detest the story it can't be on my list. It's a pet peeve of mine but the way the story is presented in the game always bugged the shit out of me. I understand how people loved the gameplay but god damn I hated that story.

Metal Gear Solid though on the PSX would make my top 20 or 30 list. I loved that game.

How anyone can name MGS2 the best anything just baffles me.  It takes incremental improvements in gameplay and marries them to the worst, most intrusive "story" in video game history.  Like, the game is literally incapable of getting out of it's own fucking way and letting you play it.  And I'm actually using "literally" seriously here, not like "dude that was so funny I literally shit my pants"

MGS2 is one of the most replayable, and content heavy games. Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance is even better, due to VR missions, Snake Tales, and more. MGS2 is a fine choice. You can bring up the story, but my reply will simply be,"what story?" haven't played MGS2 story since 2001, have skipped it every single replay since. Game owns.

MGS2: Substance European Extreme :bow

If presssed I'd probably go with:
Chrono Trigger
Civilization II + IV BTS
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Tetris Attack
Oh god I can't decide from the Zelda/Metroid's...Link's Awakening I guess.

Then probably Metroid Prime, NFL 2K5, Symphony of the Night, A Link to the Past and Super Metroid. And Gunstar Heroes.

Though I've probably played Advance Wars 1-2, Twisted Metal 2, THPS1-3, Spyro 1-2, NHL 2002, NBA Live 95-2005, NBA 2K1-13, Burnout 3/Revenge, TF2, Borderlands and Defense Grid more than many of these. I think I've actually beaten Harmony of Dissonance more times than Symphony of the Night.

Order Up! is the top Wii game.

No cheevos back then plus I saw the whole story so why bother. It is no Ninja Gaiden or Super Meat Boy.

I chose the games I played when I was 10-15. Games that left their impact. Games I played at the perfect time. I'm pretty sure your list is basically the same deal. If I was getting into games during the snes period then my list would be diffrent, but no I got into games during the PS2. Thats just the way it is. I'm not going to chose old games I didn't grow up playing.

Either way, screw you man. These are the games I like.

No, probably not.  Zelda Ocarina of Time is stock answer for my favorite game, 'cause nostalgia x great game = getouttaherecriticalthinking.  Beyond that it's a jumble of other games.

I know my #1 favorites in various genre.  Chrono Trigger is my favorite jrpg.  Project Gotham Racing 2 is my favorite racing game. Virtua Fighter 4 Evo is my favorite 3D fighting game.  Full Throttle or Last Express are my favorite adventure games.  Stuff like that.

Doom 2 and some other stuff.

Doom wouldn't crack a top 10 list for me or anything but man I can remember it clear as a fucking bell the first time I ever saw doom running on a roomates computer and just being blown away. I know Doom wasn't the first fps technically (even from those guys) but man the way it put it all together it might as well have been. It's a cliche to say now but nothing was the same after that game. It was one of the most influential things ever.

Replaying Metal Gear titles unlocks rewards. Beating the game in under x hours, beating the game with no kills, beating the game with no alerts. This can be a challenge, and it's one of the big reasons Metal Gear Solid games are so popular: they have insane replay value. It is no different than Resident Evil titles. Add in higher difficulties such as hard (no radar) so you have to use memory and sound/visual cues on a no alert run, and extreme, and finally European Extreme (exclusive to MGS2: Substance) and you have insanely competitive fanbase trying to be the first and best in any one run. Metal Gear titles are all about runs, and completing the perfect run.

So anyone who talks about story just sounds like a dumbass in my opinion, because no Metal Gear Solid fan who isn't an animu addled distinguished mentally-challenged fellow gives one single fuck about Metal Gear and story because we skip that shit after the first run anyways.

@himu

I know what you mean since I loved the no alarm/no kill run in Deus Ex: HR so I might have loved those in Metal Gear.

But to be honest, I had tons of games back then so I had no time for replaying games just to get some dog tag and no cheevos to fuck up my OCD meter.

I'm glad you enjoy it and I'm glad the game has all that replay value. Different strokes sort of thing.

For me I'm not playing a game more than once 99.9% of the time. Even back then when I had unlimited time as a kid, I didn't play games multiple times. The numbers of games I've played multiple times is almost certainly under a dozen. Not saying there is anything wrong with it. I just don't have the time and rarely the interest. I do it with books, movies, songs, but not videogames that require a more lengthy time investment.

The story for me (really immersion which is different from story but whatever) in mgs 2 ruins the feelings I want from a metal gear game and for me the feeling is very important for that series in the same way that the feeling is very important for me in a mass effect title. The first one I love. The second one made me feel embarrassed I was playing it. I'll never be able to separate that from the game. Because its not a game where the story is a very minor part of it. It was the beginning in fact where story started to become a huge part in every game whether you wanted it to be or not.

I understand. I just have a problem with people bringing up the story as a talking point in Metal Gear Solid titles when, until 4 at least, it wasn't really obtrusive, and the bulk of time spent with the games is playing the game anyways. People who bring up story against MGS fans act like all MGS fans play the titles for story, when many of us are in it for the making the perfect run. It pisses me off when I have to read someone bring up MGS and someone brings up story, when I play Metal Gear, I'm jamming on the start button. If you participate in discussion of any Metal Gear game, past the initial run, most people are going to be discussing tactics on how to get past such and such, or how to unlock x, or how to sneak past this on Extreme mode.

Then some guy on a forum sees someone mention Metal Gear Solid 2 in his favorite games, remember the STORY part that no one gives a fuck about anyways, has only played MGS2 ONCE. It never, ever, ceases to not make them look ignorant. Never.

That said, 2's story in particular is really bad so I see why it grates people.

Top 5 of all time? Probably couldn't do it. I'd rather go top 5 by year or maybe even top 5 by genre, but I always get agitated with broad lists that only allow a very limited number of picks. PlaneScape Torment and Half-Life 2 would probably be on there somewhere, though.

The House of the Dead: Overkill
Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
Mega Man X
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri

Super Metroid, Final Fantasy 6, Diablo 2, Guild Wars, and after that it kind of gets jumbled.

I could put one of the Mario Karts as fifth, but I'm not sure which one. Smash Bros could be in there, as could Metroid Prime. Zelda OoT or Wind Waker might be in there.

hrm, i hate 'all time' lists for things as ephemeral and fast-aging as video games specifically and in general for being bloody stupid (since none of us can possibly experience all the shit that is around us right now, never mind in the past and future) but anyway, my 5 faves might well be

Planescape Torment

hrm, i hate 'all time' lists for things as ephemeral and fast-aging as video games specifically and in general for being bloody stupid (since none of us can possibly experience all the shit that is around us right now, never mind in the past and future) but anyway, my 5 faves might well be

I think the notion of "top" lists are more about defining yourself and not hedging. Any normal fairly hardcore gamer probably has so many games that his list would change almost completely based on his mood. It's more about sort of saying this is what I think/thought was the shit and am willing to go out on the line for.

Not specifically you. But yeah.  :)

What I meant was that its more fun to see people's list of 5 rather than people's list of 30. Because while I like nuance more than the next guy obviously based on my posting style, its more fun in this specific case to see people limited. When people say their top 5 I get a better sense of what they value or what they say they value.

So, how many people would happily sit down and replay their top 5 games, start to finish, as they are now (no mods or graphical overhauls...and put in the kind of hours into the MP that you did back then)? And not just in some fantasy land if-i-had-the-time way...actually shove aside unfinished games from this month or whenever to play the old stuff. Sadly from my list the only ones I could even imagine doing so for would be Planescape and NGB

Well COD 4 was in mine and you could argue I'm essentially still playing COD 4 in Black Ops 2.  :P

But honestly while I love games I don't really get nostalgic to go back and play them in the same way I get nostalgic for movies or music.

The exception for me would be arcade style games or pinball games which are generally completely mechanics based. As much as I loved Resident Evil 2, I don't think I have a craving to actually go back and play it. And if I did even for curiosity sake, I think I kinda would wanna see it get a HD makeover.

Once again I'm not that way about movies at all. I wouldn't want to see movies get "updated" in some weird way but videogame tech for me is different because its always about upgrades in that case from generation to generation.

Listing multiplayer games is sort of bittersweet.  Maybe somewhere out there there are devoted communities for battlefield vietnam, codename eagle, igi2 multiplayer demo, unreal 2 xmp, and neocron.  Who knows.

I just finished a playthrough FFX yesterday actually. You say with no graphical overhauls, I guess that's harder. I mean I just played the HD versions of ZoE and MGS recently. I played the PS2 version of RE4 and then the HD release not to long after it was released. Ideally I'll play these games every year, but hopefully life stops me from that. But I'd probably play the HD versions. Outside of ZoE the hd versions are just the same games in HD so why not?

The games I picked all still hold up well and I replay them occasionally. Good games don't age poorly. Of course, if there is a HD version of the game then I'm going to play that instead.

The thing I love about it is it's like wine. The gameplay is so slick and smooth that it still holds up, so the only thing time does to it is allow it to reap the benefits of improved technology. I can play the same awesome Doom 2 now, but with HD resolution, higher frame rate and better controls. Boss.

I really liked LA NOIRE for a few hours, the setting etc. My first footchase.

Game really falls apart when you notice that the interrogations are crap and you're doing same 5 things all the time (and those things aren't executed too good).

GTAIV was BEEP BEEP you wanna go bowling brah? BEEP BEEP. And restarting missions was poop. Apperently this was fixed in expansions, but thats too late for me. I'm not going to buy DLC to fix core issues of games, that should be a patch.

Super Mario Galaxy - Blew me away in a way few games did before and none have ever since.

Skies of Arcadia - Started off as a fun RPG but when Vyse got stuck on the island and had to find a way to leave, at that point the game clicked with me and became a classic.  Gorgeous environments, memorable music, I was legitimately sad when I beat the game.  It was such a pleasant surprise to see a Skies of Arcadia getting repped in the latest Sonic racing game.

Super Mario World - Loved the music, loved the way they evolved the formula of the game, and it confuses me when people say SMB3 is better.  SMW is such a better game in almost every way.

These are probably my permanent top 3.  The other two games would include but not limited to: Goldeneye 007, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Red Faction Guerrilla, Borderlands 2, Banjo Kazooie, Final Fantasy VI, Grandia 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Warriors Orochi 3, and Dynasty Warriors 5.

Yeah, I was excited right up until my 2nd or so interrogation, when it was clear that there was no consistency in the format for Truth/Doubt/Lying implementation. There must have been some severe gameplay tweaking AFTER the performance capture was done, and this was as close to consistent implementation as they could get. But the Euphoria-infected motion, in combination with the vibration-indicated "clue is here" feature just made it unplayable. Just crap.

And GTA IV, I've gone on enough in several other threads, but the mission restart was not addressed in DLC. You can still use your phone to restart missions after respawning at the hospital or police station, but you have to do it immediately, and that means without your armor or a chance to restock on ammo or change weapons. Saints Row mission restart is best mission restart.

Well, 3 of mine are pretty much pick-up-and-play games and I frequently go back and play them. The 2 RPGs on my list, a bit harder to make time for. But dated graphics don't bother me very much (aside from really ugly early 3D or that time when everyone was trying grainy digitized graphics or dated-looking 3D renders). I play a mix of older games and newer games, many of the older games being my first time playing them. Looking forward to playing Shining Force 3 and Deus Ex for the first time pretty soon.

0. I almost never revisit anything, whether it's video games, books, movies, or TV shows. Well, I'll rewatch comedic TV shows, that's it. Or watch a movie I love if it's on TV or it's Christmas and I am required to watch Die Hard. I don't know why I buy and keep physical copies of anything.

In the last year, I've played OoT (3DS version), JKII, and Pokemon Soul Silver to completion, and I'm sure I'll play OoT again in the next few months.  I absolutely love the game and still think it's the most important video game of my era, but it can be kind of a pain to slog through in certain areas.  Good thing the 3DS version has the Master Quest and looks pretty.

It's a weird thing to say but for me old mechanics based arcade games are kind of like the experience you get with civilization or something. It's about refining a particular skill set. I can always go and play NBA Jam. In the same way I can always boot up Civilization or something because the dynamics are so different from game to game.

I'm not exactly sure what you're point is.  For a lot of us, the most enjoyable gaming experiences happened within a very short span of time, looking back at it.  You see some of the older members listing mostly old NES and PC games, which is to be expected.  That's probably when they were first getting seriously into gaming.  Just like kids 19-30 were huge into SNES/Genesis and N64/PS1 stuff.

Like Raphexon said, most people tend to enjoy video games the most somewhere around the age of 10 - 15, so I think it's only natural that most lists are slanted towards a certain time period. I still have fun with games and can see that they are excellently designed (probably much better than I could when I was a kid/teenager), but when I make a list of my favourite games the subjective feeling that I had when played them playes a significant role. Nobody is making a list of games thinking "this games were the best experience as a result of it's mechanics, story, graphics atmosphere etc. but completly ignoring my subjective appreciation for videogames at that time". Although I don't think it's just nostalgia. For example there are not a lot of NES mentions here, maybe because people tend to prefer the SNES versions which are essentially more refined versions of the NES games.

Or view those old games through some magic prism.

Maybw its a case of sticking to what you like to much a holding up new games to those childhood memories?

Top 5 is really small and I think someone here said it depends on mood, but I find it hard to believe so many of you havent picked a single game from this mammoth gen that lasted 7 years.

Most people let some time pass after they experience something to decide if it is really worth "best of all time" status. And while this generation is long, almost all of it's earlier games have been surpassed by latter games.

I listed Wip3out, but Wipeout 2097, Wip3out SE, Wipeout Pulse, Wipeout HD Fury are really all good enough to play today and different enough that no one title supplants any other. The same could be said for R-Type, Gradius and a couple of other series. The nice thing is that you come in to a new title with a much stronger sense of base mechanics and the variations on the rules are much more apparent; the changes to the handling model between Wip3out and Wip3out Special Edition; the introduction of Dose in R-Type; etc.

I still play through RtCW every year or so, even though I know it by heart now. Great comfort game. Same with RDR, I'll boot it up from time to time just to ride the horse around and stare at the pretty scenery. I have a 100 or so FO3 saves, occasionally will pick one at random and just fart around. Can't play BF1942 much, the only people left playing nowadays are the insane. Can't play Defender, don't have the reflexes for it anymore.

Top 5 is really small and I think someone here said it depends on mood, but I find it hard to believe so many of you havent picked a single game from this mammoth gen that lasted 7 years.

Seriously dudes.

I like to see if games last the test of time before I start thinking of them as my all-time faves.  I was hesitant even putting SMG on there this soon.

As others have said, though, this list is probably going to be heavily tilted towards the era you had the most enjoyment with games, which for many is not going to be the adult years.  I'm lucky if I get an hour or so every couple of days to game of late.

Yeah, when it comes to this gen, it's rare that I actually play a game to completion. And I certainly don't play a lot of online multiplayer stuff. So even if something has the potential to be in my "Top X" list, it's hard to give it that kind of nod when I feel like I'd really need to go back again and see if it holds up on replay. As an example, Galaxy is probably a better game than Super Mario 64, but I've probably 120 starred Mario 64 at least ten times since I first played it back when I was 12 years old, whereas getting about 115 stars in my one play of Galaxy was all the time I've given it.

Late 80's - The Legend of Zelda
Early-Mid 90-'s - Wizardry VII: Crusaders of the Dark Savant
Late 90's - Curse of Monkey Island
Early Aughts - Super Smash Bros. Melee
Past Few Years - Binding of Isaac

ME2 is probably in my top 10 but not quite good enough to make top 5... or maybe it's that the stuff ahead of it is just better, whatever.  Certainly a game worthy of praise, though.

The Sentinel (C64)
Paradroid (C64)
Space Harrier (Arc)
Chromehounds (X360)
Phoenix (Arc)

In truth there's probably better games - but the older ones have a very special place in my heart. Chromehounds online was legitimately stupidly awesome.

Doing the list on a TIME SPENT it's more like :

Chromehounds (X360)
Monster Hunter 3rd P (PSP)
Advance Wars (GBA)
Rainbow 6 Vegas (X360)
Sensible World of Soccer (Amiga/PC)

.... i think i like the second list better.

I definitely could. Hell I still play Wolfenstein ET

Too bad SC:BW's online functionality is so outdated and buggy at times. I'd pay for an HD version of the game with better online features.

ME2 and Fallout 3 will probably be in my top 10 in a few years.  ME2, everytime I play, just fucking slays me.  The detail and process of how you level up and build relationships is how I think every action game with RPG elements should be like.

Also I wish more games would handle end-game sequences like how ME2 does.  Your actions throughout effect the fates of every single person on your squad.

The 1st Dragon Age is pretty decent. I don't play a lot of PC rpgs so as far as I was concerned it was good. If you have more experience with the genre I could see it being bad.

DA2 is a bad action rpg that feels copy and pasted. But it does feature an end game that was obviously inspired by ME2 in that all the choices be it in the plot or with the characters(similar trust system) come into play during the final battle.

The original DA is a really good if unspectacular entry into the field.

The sequel is probably my biggest disappointment of the gen, to be honest.

Blah blah blah nostalgia.

I didn't play GT3 until a few years ago and I gave it a #5 spot.

OoT and SM64 took top 2 spots because Miyamoto directed both and he was fucking godly in the 90s, not because of nostalgia.

But keep pretending the games in this day and age with excessive cutscenes, QTE's and out of contorl budgets are actually better than how they used to be. :lol

if you can find "old style" games this gen you're simply not looking.

Gaming is as good as it's ever been - it's just got a load more cack floating around it.

Everyone's favorite shit is from their teens/20s, whoda thunk it? :-[
Isn't most of this board still in their 20s?

I've seen Mass Effect 2 on a number of lists I think...was very tempted to put it down myself. (the other one that was real hard to leave off is Advance Wars, and I thought hard about Portal/Portal 2 as well...)

Advance Wars... I would have put it in mine, but I was soured on the series with Dual Strike, or whichever one introduced the mechanic where I could crush 90% of their army, and suddenly their remaining 10% army could FLIP OVER AND DESTROY ME.

I was pretty into this a few years ago; I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't reached out and destroyed it with a flick of their legal wrist:

I guess many of my games are from my teens and twenties, but that is most of where my life happens. The other part to that is that I know the games I listed from then have stood the test of time and are still fun to me today. There are  a few games that are more recent that will probably go to the top once time has passed and time has judged them a bit more.

I'm 35, my introduction to gaming was the Intellivision (TRON, BITCHES) and various Ataris.  I'll be honest though, I have slaughtered bajillions of brain cells and don't necessarily remember those early consoles too well.  My earliest vivid memory of gaming was they year everyone got the NES for Christmas, instead of getting the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt bundle, I ended up with the stupid fucking Duck Hunt/Gyromite/Rob the distinguished mentally-challenged robot bundle.  Let me tell you, absolutely no one wanted to trade Super Mario Bros. for Gyromite for a weekend.  I'm pretty sure I beat the shit out of that robot to death within a month.

same, except mine was a hand-me-down from my brother, and it was for the early 90s.

I don't know what my first memory is.  There's home video of me playing mario when I'm one, but I don't remember that.  My fondest early memories were on the gameboy because I was the youngest and I had no say in anything.  Go to arcades or friends' house to play street fighter 2; come home and play:

I think that's why I played sports when I was younger.

I'm 26 and I had one of those wood paneled Atari knockoffs that came from Montgomery Wards. I don't really remember that much about it, but I do remember having an NES a few years later.

first console i played was an Atari when I went to stay with my NYC cousins...blew my mind that children were allowed such a thing

I'm 27.  Saw a neighbor play a NES with SMB when I was four.  Played it for a little bit and got hooked.  Spent as much time as possible at the neighbor's house even though I didn't particularly care for the kid.  I just had to play SMB.  Next year I got the NES + SMB3 bundle for Christmas.  Played the shit out of it.  I heard of this game called Zelda and it looked awesome.  So I asked for it at Christmas and got...Zelda 2 instead :'(

I remember playing PONG when I was 4. So that was about 1978. I think we got an Atari shortly thereafter and fell in love with Adventure.

My father was a weird dude. He was an auto worker that spent all of his money on the latest electronics, yet rarely used them. Hi-fi stereos, VCR's, cutting edge televisions, game systems, personal computers, video cameras. I think he enjoyed the attention when people would come over and drool over his stuff.

I'll be 25 next week. My older brother was the first gamer in my family so I remember playing stuff like SMB, Excitebike, and Baseball for the NES. But no memory stands out as clearly as trying Dragon Warrior for the first (and last) time and thinking that it was the worst game ever.

I'm 31. Got into gaming with Atari and going to the arcades. Had an Atari 2600 and 7800, Amiga, Gameboy, Genesis/32X and PC growing up, but also played everything on the NES, SNES and Master System since my best friend had them all. I really didn't pay much attention to gaming during my high school years (Playstation, N64, Saturn), but bought a Dreamcast when I got to college, then a PS2 (and a ton of PS1 games), then a Saturn, then a GBA, then an Xbox, then a Gamecube, then a DS and PSP. Then got married and bought only a PS3 this generation.

The Bore - home of mature gaming discussion.

I'm 34, had an older bro who was also into games so fucked around on a 2600 along with the Commodore Vic 20 and 64 back in the day. Had a cousin with a Pong arcade machine in his den and we had a home version of it ourselves for a bit. First thing that was partly mine was the NES. Never cleared SMB back in the day cause my dad got me fuckin' Karate Champ and Trojan at about the same time we got the machine. Quality stuff there. Fond memories of shit like Racing Destruction, Mail Order Monsters, Dr. J and Larry Bird go One on One (EA used to be fuck awesome, didn't they?), and Mondu's Fight Palace on the C64. Loved Scare City Motel on the Vic 20 too.

24. Despite being young I started off near the beginning from buying old second hand shit as a kid (I busked with a recorder on weekends lol) instead of the latest greatest. First started playing in Arcades and text based adventures on a shitty old comp at home, then I got a commodore and moved up to AMIGA stuff and shareware crud, and had an ATARI with one of those 256 in 1 carts. Didn't really get into current stuff til my dad got a PC and joystick and I mostly played flight sims (The Aces series and Red Baron were my favourite games, and the Star Wars sims) and random platformers and adventure games, then later picked up a second hand master system with a shiteload of games and peripherals. Nobody else I knew really played games except my cousin until the PSX came out and kids were falling over themselves to get one.

29, my first gaming experience was my dad's Atari 2600 with Donkey Kong, Mouse Trap, Lost Luggage, Centipede when I was about 3. Got an NES when I was 5 and Super Mario Bros was the greatest thing I'd ever seen in my life until I got The Legend of Zelda for Christmas and that became the greatest thing ever.

31.  some of my first words were "pac-man."  We had a little mini-arcade version of it and I guess I was around it a lot or something.  First console was 2600, then I saw a NES in action when I was 6 or so--mind blown.  Eventually I got one and like everyone else here, got too into gaming for my own good.

Yeah, I'm 45, I was graduating high school when MrGundam was born.

My first game was Pong at a friend's house. Then a neighbor girl got Intellivision. Those controllers were abysmal.

My first games were on an Apple ][+
