(not to be confused with metal gear solid: rising)
~2 gigs on 360 and ~4 gigs on PS3. might be 'gold only' on 360.
It's pretty good. No dedicated button for dodging or block/parrying isn't as bad as I thought. I don't like wiggling the stick to get out of a stun. Wiggling sticks suck in 100% of the games to feature it.
-
I'm downloading it now. I'm interested to try it because I really like Metal Gear but the slicing stuff (from the trailers at least) seemed too intense for me :-\
-
Agreed on wiggling for stun. :-\
The camera kept drifting around for me in blade mode. Annoying. Besides that, it was alright. Controls and parrying take a bit to get used to, but its fun once you get the hang of it.
-
Damn 4 gigs? gonna try it on saturday.
-
Somehow I feel like I've already played this demo when really I've just watched a Quick Look of it or something...
-
Same demo from the ZOE HD Collection? I thought it was fun.
-
another slight annoyance is the animation every time Raiden crushes one of those energy things. for something that happens so often it should be instant.
also, disappointed that there's no blood color option.
-
Demo is good. Controls are like bam pow.
-
Camera controls in blade mode are pretty weird. and they don't seem to abide to the invert setting I put on horizontal movement in options. or maybe they do, but it still feels very weird. the Zanbatsu stuff looks cool and all, but I still haven't grasped how to trigger the B+Y prompts.
-
I liked it. More Platinum Games plz.
-
For some reason the demo seemed to play better on PS3 than on 360.

But what I’m excited to unveil today should be an old favorite for any Metal Gear fan, PlayStation-exclusive DLC VR Missions! Adding 30 all-new missions to the game, featuring that classic VR/Virtual Reality look inspired by the original Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions, the pack is pure, uncut gameplay that pushes Raiden’s Cyborg body to its limits.

....
well it looks like i'll be skipping this til (if) i get a ps3 again
-
heh, made a thread for it
-
I have the demo, but I still can't bring myself to try it. I know if I do and I like it, I will only play the demo for the next 3 weeks instead of working on games I've already bought!
-
how do i get better at this? i'm playing it like dmc/ng and shit and it's not really working for me, particularly against the geckos.

Learn the parry and dodge. And use air combos on the "torsos" of the Gekkos. U will win.
-
Game has the weirdest parry system I've ever seen. So you press up + block? :wtf
-
There isn't any block button fyi

What dodge? ???

yeah, it's up and the light attack button (Square or X). iirc it's because they wanted Raiden to be aggressive or something. in the full game enemies can parry your attacks and you'll get into situations where you're going back and forth trying to land a successful counter.
and dodge is direction+jump+light attack (X+Square, A+X)

omfg, just played the demo. Ninja Gaiden x Bayonetta x Bringing it's own stuff to the table. This game is gonna be amazing.
-
I'm a total cheapskate atm but find myself increasingly intrigued by this game, is there a chance any of you would be willing to trade me a new 360 copy of this game for my unused, 13 month XBL Gold card? Plz halp :-[
-
so does this even have a deep combat system? watching the videos doesnt really tell me much.
-
Without a proper movelist, it's hard to tell. It kinda reminds me of Anarchy Reigns: really simple on the surface but with bits of depth here and there. I'm sure a bigger fan of action games could go into more detail here.
-
Hey Gamestop pre-order comes with a small art-book. Kind of cool.

so far, so good with this demo. what do you want to know about? The moves are great, the flow of combat is great, AI seems good. I started messing around with blade mode cancels on my one and only try on this demo so far. You can cancel some recovery animations (like the 5th hit of his aerial rave normal forces him to land, but you can tap blade mode to get out of that and continue your combo.)
The ninja run will add depth for sure. In fact, terrain might be pretty dang important in the game. When you have the ninja run button down, he basically turns into an assassin's creed character and starts free-running on everything. There are a bunch of different animations for going over various sized obstacles. He does rolls and hops and other things that change his position quickly. Only complaint is that he doesn't run on walls in the demo. not sure if that's out.
The AI is pretty smart and non as cannon fodder as I thought it would be.
-
iirc wall-run is an upgrade

i mean if you have to compare it to an existing established character action game which is it closest to? DMC? Bayo? Ninja Gaiden?
-
I immediately thought it felt like Bayonetta + Ninja Gaiden. maybe that'll change, not sure.

:-\ not a fan of Ninja Gaiden at all
-
you don't like the combat in Ninja Gaiden? that's all i mean, not the platforming and other stuff. The combos feel more like Bayonetta, but the movement is more like Ninja Gaiden, than Bayo or DMC. It's more slash + dash + quick kills than insane combos.
it's a combo of those games and its own thing, so try the demo out and see how it flows.
-
never been a fan of parry systems in games... took a bit to get used to here. i think i finally got it though. wish there was a PC version cuz it looks butt ugly.
-
and the frame rate seems a bit iffy :\
oh well, current gen action games ::)
-
You guys think this looks bad? I mean yeah it's using that Platinum Games engine and well the engine never looked like the best, plus this gen is showing it's age. But still as far as the demo is concerned, I think the game looks pretty solid. Best looking game they've made.
I guess the thing is the color pallet. All of the games under this engine are all very grey and lack really vibrant color.

Are you playing on 360 or PS3? The framerate seemed fine on 360, I was actually impressed with how consistently high it was. Maybe I'm just crazy.
-
PS3 and I can't say I've had huge problems during fights and stuff. I just get paranoid when turning the camera seems to bring on some small drops.

:lol :lol :lol

YESSS
-
Where are the reviews?
The game is not coming out until next week officially and apparently the copies out right now are review ones (though some seem to be broken street date ones).
-
there are the usual leaks (NYC+CA stores selling early) and both versions leaked on the web a couple days ago. I'm watching for people to get copies at Target or something.
-
I swear to god, every action game that comes out is "LOL ONLY 4 HOURS" right before launch. Then I somehow manage to get like 80+ hours out of a 4 hour game.
-
The story sounds absolutely insane.
-
lol where is that from

It isn't even 4 hour the first time through anyways mainly due to how platinum does their timer

the gif is probably from here:

this guy broadcasts some wrestling game with video game characters as custom characters. There's custom music, he can write cut scenes and story lines. It's a whole season I think...fun stuff.
