What are your favourite Nintendo memories of the last gen?
I think mine was imagining all the cool ways the wiimote would be used for Star Wars or F Zero.
-
That one time I played Dragon Quest IX on my DS.
-
When my wife asked me why I still had the Wii.
-
When my wife asked me why I still had the Wii.
She's too good for you!
-
Finishing the fucking stupid ice dungeon on TP.

This board is so bitter about this one company. :lol
-
when I sold my 3DS I got, like, 85% of MSRP
-
When I discovered I couldn't re-download my purchases.
-
Ain't no troll like a Nintendo troll, because a Nintendo troll is a never ending series of increasingly diabolical torments.
-
Street Passing is awesome. I just wish there were more people around me to do it with. I need more puzzle pieces!!
-
I was touched when Nintendo charged me $1.50 to transfer a 2 MB ROM that I'd already purchased from my Wii to the Wii U. This ROM has been widely available on the Internet to emulate for free since 1998, but I just love giving Nintendo money!

Go to every GameStop in the area. I have passed the same one like 50 times

When my prediction that Wii will sell like crazy came true.

I don't think bitter is the right word.

I'm not sure whether to go troll or sincere here, but since the former seems to be covered, I'll go sincere.
1.) Wii Sports -- it wears out its welcome really quickly in anything but a party atmosphere -- and even that doesn't keep it interesting forever -- but I'm not going to lie. The first time I played it at a friend's house it was pretty fucking cool.
2.) Punch Out!! It didn't hook me as much as I thought it might given my undying love for the original, but it was still just damn cool to see this franchise come back.
3.) Mario Galaxy 1 & 2. These were legitimately fantastic platformers that justify the entire existence of the platform. Terrific games, and easily the best in 3D platforming.
-
Fun fact, I played Wii Sports for about 3 minutes. My wife also crushed Trauma Center when it came out. She could do surgeries so fast it was impossible to get the highest ranking.

Jilted then? Y'all acting like a creepy internet dude who checks the FB page of the girlfriend he stopped dating six years ago.
-
I played Xenoblade and the Last Story. Thanks for those Nintendo. I think those are the only Nintendo published games I have from this gen. Oh and Sin and Punishment 2, need to go back and finish that.
-
Sin and Punishment 2 and Xenoblade
-
Sin and Punishment 2 was BOSS
-
GHOST SQUAD
-
I actually enjoyed the Wii, but I don't feel like there are a ton of must-have games on it. I really loved Sin and Punishment 2, Galaxy 1 and 2, Brawl and Metroid: Other M, and that's about all I've had the time to finish. I'll get around to them, but Xenoblade, The Last Story, and Skyward Sword just kinda sit on my shelf.
EDIT: Oh yeah, LIT is pretty awesome too. Best game by WayForward.
-
Resident Evil 4 wii was the best game i played on my wii.

Also SADNESS

mario galaxy 2 is amazing

Playing Wii Sports with the family and everybody was having fun.
I'll give them that
-
In undergrad in the fraternity house, one dude who had the biggest room in the house always had people drinking and playing wii sports golf, Mario kart, or smash.
Some of the best times were stubbling into his room at 3 in the morning and play until someone got pissed off which always led to a wrestling match on the front lawn.
I miss college.
-
three words: naked wii boxing
-
nothing
oh well i guess i got a DS Lite. that was cool.

I dunno, seems about right to me. Nintendo topics tend to be the busiest threads on the gaming side, and half the posts are from people who claim to be finished with Nintendo. There are definitely quite a few people who for whatever reason can't do the sane thing and just stop caring. Feels like bitterness to me.
Well the other companies havent released new stuff yet so its hard to make fun.
If sony pulls another rumble is last gen trick im sure well all have a laugh too.
-
Mario Galaxy was pretty sweet.
I also played my 8 year old DS phat a bit. The thing is still going! I said I'd upgrade if the thing breaks, but nope. I like the DS phat, feels good in the hands. So I have missed like 23 iterations of the DS. Will buy a 3DS at some point.
So yeah, go nintendo hardware
-
when all i had for a few months was super mario bros and duck hunt but still played that shit religiously every day
when i used to scam return games i didn't like to toys r us before they caught on
-
when i got so pissed at metroid i snatched it out and kicked the cartridge across the room
-
there literally has never been a nintendo game ive ever played that i enjoyed.

It's funny you say this. I don't think I have either, well not ones they personally made. On the N64, I loved Star Fox, Perfect Dark, and Goldeneye, but yeah Nintendo didn't make those. I only have 5 games on the Gamecube and well 4 made by Capcom and 1 made by Silicon Knights. On the Wii I also have a few games, but none made personally by Nintendo. I guess Gamefreak is basically Nintendo, so I guess Pokemon Red and Silver are the best Nintendo made games I've played.
I respect them as a developer, but yeah they just don't make game's that interests me.
-
im kidna the same cuz the gamecube is my favorite system of all time but no nintendo games are what i enjoyed (except eternal darkness which dun even count)
-
I finally bought Strange Journey today.
:rock ME :rock

Mario Galaxy. And, ummm, that video/gif jarosh made.

Going to stay positive here. The things Nintendo did last generation that I appreciated:
1) Restored my faith in Mario Kart. Mario Kart 64 was a glitchy mess. I know a lot of people liked Super Circuit but it didn't quite squeeze my weasel. Then came Double Dash which could best be described as "offensively and aggressively shitty." It seemed like the franchise peaked with the original. Then Mario Kart DS came out and changed my opinion. I loved this game. It should also be noted that this was the first real good game on the DS since Mario 64 DS. I got tired of NeoGAF's recommendations, where any game that wasn't total shit was solid gold. This game looked great, had a lot of good courses, and seemed like a full fledged console title in handheld form. The Wii game was a step or two back but MK7 is a return to greatness.
2) Wii Sports. My roommates and I would go to the gym and when we'd come back, we'd play about an hour of Wii Golf (usually about three rounds). We talked so much shit to each other and we would get really into the shit talking. There wasn't a sacred cow that wasn't hideously butchered. We played it every day we went lifting so about 5-6 times a week for about three months. Those days ended when spring semester was over and nobody ever had an interest in playing it again. It was just one of those things...
3) Mario Galaxy really gripped me. I got my Wii when winter vacation just got started. So I had three weeks to play this fucking awesome game without the bullshit known as engineering classes. Since it was a college town, the grocery store I worked at was dead. So I'd work, leave early, grabbed a liter container of this:
and played Galaxy for the rest of the day (this was back when I had a better metabolism and could put a liter away a day and not gain a pound; also this awesome form of Starbucks ice cream is no longer available, there's some shittier version out now). One point in the game captivated me so much that I accidentally played it through the night and went to work without any sleep :lol
4) My sister's dumbass stepkids are a huge hassle. Well, I rewii'd for Christmas 2011 and it was the bundle that came with NSMB Wii. Well, once they found out that we had a Wii they wanted to play it. My parents, angry assholes that they are, were against it, thinking it would only rile them up further. I insisted on hooking it up and wouldn't you know it, the kids immediately became docile once they started playing. They played co-op well together and we all sat on the couch and more or less played cheerleader. It was a great time and everyone had fun. So yes, the Wii saved Christmas for us one year :3

I thought I've... gotten better about it.

:bow You're not completely off base there. :bow2
Even if the newer ones really eclipse the older ones, especially the Silver remake.

I was thinking last gen.

Imagining how awesome the Virtual Console and WiiWare was going to be.
Then reality happened.

VC was pretty awesome in 2007 - a lot of great games got released, including several that never saw official US release (like Sin and Punishment, Do Re Mi Fantasy, and Alien Soldier)... then something just happened and Nintendo stopped givin a fuck.
-
True. Playing some of the old TG-16 games again was cool. But, by and large, it was a pretty big disappointment.
-
VC turned out pretty awesome but with some notable gaps. Not looking forward to releases trickling out all over again.
Nintendo stopped giving a fuck because VC games apparently sold like crap.
-
good point - Nintendo does deserve props for fixing Mario Kart this gen. it had, no pun, gone completely off the rails
-
One of the more interesting opinions by Polygon (Titled: What Nintendo has learned from Kickstarter) almost completely side-stepped the dichotomy and focused on a unique topic of potential interest. Unsurprisingly, EvilBore almost immediately rejected it as a topic of worthy discussion.
:wag :wag
-
I can't really disagree, monthly ND's are pretty cool and there's always at least one cool thing to come out of them.
Don't know why it needed a whole spiel though.

when people get excited for retro's next game, i don't think they expect Mario Kart U
