Man, it's a wonder that my generation isn't more fucked up than we are.  It's seems like marketing departments were still working out some kinks in their mass homogenization of the youth in the early to mid 80s.

Modern PSAs are all wishy washy and totally ineffective. Did you ever see the "Tobacco is Wacko (if you're a teen)" ads? Talk about a mixed message--"wait a few more years and those adults won't be able to tell you what to do!" was the basic gist. Not, "YOU GONNA DIE."

Yeah, really, they made the tobacco companies PAY for the anti-tobacco PSAs, so of course they get a bit of actual input into them. 

You're not going to get kids into line unless you fill them with the fear of constant, permanent death.
