I've always thought what really made the GnR was Axl's voice. Of course Slash was probably important in developing the sound, but having been to a GnR concert last year and listening to Chinese Democracy I really don't miss him. Now if Axl wasn't there I wouldn't go to the concert.

Izzy
-
Both. Slash's solo effort is meh, but axl needs slash because slash's guitar writing is top notch.
-
put me down for one vote of kurt cobain punching axl in the face
-
Slash, because velvet revolver (Pilot Weiland :bow :bow :bow )
-
Hmmm. Axl is a great song writer, Slash is a great guitarist. I guess I'd give Slash the edge simply because of his riffs whereas Axl's extravagance is what ruined the band musically.
That being said Chinese Democracy is underrated.
-
Axl looks like a fat Charles Bronson, so Slash
-
Velvet Revolver and Audioslave are basically the same thing. Same band with different well known vocalist substituting in releasing music that's just OK.
In both cases Velvet Revolver > GnR, because Weiland >>>>>>> Axl and Audioslave >>>> Rage against the machine because fuck De La Rocha and :heart Chris Cornell
-
De La Rocha cant hold a candle to Chris Cornell's voice, Weiland is a far, far better song writer and vocalist over Axl :comeon
-
Guns and roses wish they could do this

Chris Cornell > De La Rocha. I'm not debating that. But Rage Against The Machine is a thousand times the band Audioslave is, it felt like everyone involved was winging it with that one. As for Weiland: Good voice, meh songwriter. I hate Axl but he has written much better songs.
I strongly disagree with Rage the only thing that ever stood out for me is Guerrilla Radio and I pretty much grew up with their music (always fount it to be pretty meh) Whereas Audioslave did an almost perfect album of road trip songs

Weiland vs Axl isnt even close for me. Him, Jerry Cantrell, Chris Cornell stand head and shoulders above everyone else in their kinda genre (i know mixed genres)

Audioslave' first album is better than all of Rage's albums. That's a fact
-
PD :bow
-
PD loves Creed, he doesn't count.
There are people who like Creed? :gloomy
Fuck this gay earth :maf
-
the disparity in quality between the first and second Audioslave albums is so extreme I now reel in horror whenever a musician successfully gets on the wagon.
Also Rage's catalog outdoes Audioslave's first album and the track Moth (which is everything of note from them). Not to mention that Audioslave suffers retroactively from Chris Cornell's solo effort which he left the band for.
-
Audioslave's first album is quite an amazing body of work that hits every box on the "good rock album" checklist. Great heavy stuff, nice ballad-esque track, very good blues track, etc
-

Only memorable thing Axl ever did.

I thought this was a poll about deodorants.

Slash was the heart and soul of the band, how could you argue otherwise?
-
I would side with Slash since Axl is a huge fuck-up, but you need both for Guns N' Roses.
I still remember how bad the replacement band (and Axl) sounded when they "returned" for the album that wouldn't release for several more years:

Kurt Loder's enthusiasm for this was incredibly fake. :lol
