Title: 2013 Bore Fishing Thread

The one time I got to go last year.

Yeah, this isn't going to be a hot topic.  I know.  But I'm excited about it this year, and I should be able to start going again in a few weeks.  This year will be fun because I'm going to be taking the kiddo with me and seeing if he likes it!

So, the dilemma that I'm running into this year is that the rod and reel combo that I've had for the past 8 years finally gave out on me.  It had a really good (and long) run, but now I'm ready for a new setup.

The last one was a spinner reel on a 6.5' poll.  It wasn't bad at all, but it couldn't handle larger fish on the occasion that I actually hooked one.  What do the Bore Fishermen think I should get?  I'll be using this for mostly ponds, lakes, and some streams.  No saltwater.  I'll mainly be casting from a shoreline too.

Spinner reel or baitcaster?  Poll length?  Particular brands?  Any other recommendations?

I'm going to the most wonderful place in the world this weekend (Bass Pro Shop) and I was hoping to pick up my new rig there.

I went a couple times last summer, unfortunately on two of the hottest days of the year lol. I'm no pole expert but do use a reel and live bait (worms).

When I was a kid I did some fishing on a family friend's boat and accidentally threw my rod a few feet into the water while casting. I hope your kid doesn't make the same mistake :lol

I love to fish, but seeing as I'm no where near some good freshwater fishing. I have to fish with the big bouy's, I just got my ocean license for this year. Got a two rod this year so I can actually have a chance at catching something. If its over a certain weight I'm forced to sell it to someone else with another type of license to cut up and part out the fish then buy it back from them. Which sucks, but that's California for ya.

Last year I caught a few coolers worth of fish. Which was worth the cost of a license.

I'm gonna have to rent poles though, which is ok cause ocean poles cost too damn much.

My uncle told me about a pond near his work that was "pretty good."  I went out there this morning and "pretty good" didn't even begin to cover it...

I had a bite nearly every time I threw in.  It's still early in the year, so the fish were still pretty small, but I did catch a few decent bass.  Now, I've been sworn to secrecy about the location of the pond!   :lol

I've been going fishing up in Alaska since I was kid. My dad and some of his buddies own land on the Nushagak river so we've got a private camp up there. Hopefully I'll be going this summer.

Fishing in Alaska would be amazing!  How much does it cost you to get up there though?
