It has become clear that Jimmy Fallon is going to become the host of The Tonight Show, but sources say an internal debate among key players is underway regarding the timing.

Will The Roots be going with him? If so :bow

The Reign of The Jimmies
-
Are they going to try Leno at prime time again?
-
Hopefully they'll just kill Leno
-
What doesn't kill him only makes his jaw stronger. :lenowned

I despise Jimmy Fallon but him getting the Tonight Show just rubs salt in the wound of Conan so I'm all for it! :lenowned :lenowned :lenowned
Does anyone even watch Conan on TBS? How about the legions of fans*?
* - Who never watched the show in the first place
-
Last I checked Conan had pretty meh ratings but I'd imagine he enjoys the freedom and lack of expectations. I'm not a fan of any late night, it all seems like an outdated form of entertainment to me. But I do like Fallon simply because he's a hip hop fan and The Roots are amazing on the show.

Where was that thread about Leno bumping Conan? I'm searching for it and can't find it.
I remember BrandNew running away from this board for a few months because of it.

36 pages! Shit.

The Tonight Show fiasco really killed my appreciation for Conan. This whole cult of personality thing formed around him and it really grossed me out how he completely embraced it. Guy's ego is huge.

well to be fair, he did have that one funny skit I saw on the internet a decade ago. good times.

This my problem with all of these shows. The original David Letterman show worked because it was a satire of the format. And as brilliant as Letterman is, unfortunately he eventually become what he was satirizing. The rest of these guys really embrace this tired old format from the start which doesn't really interest me.
I don't like Jimmy Fallon at all but at this point who cares really. They could stick anybody in there and I still wouldn't watch so good luck to him honestly. I like the Roots and Fallon seems like a nice enough fellow even though he doesn't amuse me.
Conan is fine and when given the space to operate can consistently crank out funny material. It's just silly to me that they make you suffer through an hour show to see like 5 to 10 minutes of good material. I'd rather just watch a daily or weekly youtube recap. I wish Conan had taken the opportunity to move away from the traditional talk show format when the whole Leno thing happened.
-
Conan's problem is he's a shit interviewer and not very good at standup. But his skit stuff is unmatched.

I watch Conan from time to time and it's just OK. I do think that Late Night With Conan O'Brien was brilliant, man I miss that show and everyone who was involved with it.
Some will hate me for saying this, but Jay Leno is a way better host than Jimmy Fallon. Jimmy Fallon succeeds cause of everything around him, not him, not is shitty skits, not his extremely awkward OHGODIMONCAMERA demeanor nor his shitty jokes. The Roots are awesome and make the show, he gets better music performances than anybody else and tends to have a decent guest roster even if his weird OHMYGODIMSITTINGNEXTTOACELEBRITY ruins most if not all his interviews.
I just catch the awesome Roots moments and occasionally good music performance on youtube. Otherwise, Fallon is pretty fucking bad.
bububu Lorne Michaels says he's the reincarnation of Carson

Jimmy Fallon was just at the right place at the right time. 10 years ago, he released some extremely shitty album that went nowhere, was in some shitty movie with Queen Latifah (kind of a redundant phrase there), and was probably one of the worst people on SNL (which is really saying a lot). Quite a turnaround but I suspect it was more pure dumb luck that anything. Good for him I guess.

I catch Conan a few times a month. He's at his best when he takes the show on the road. Watch his Atlanta trip in two weeks. He's had a few great moments since being on TBS. I've checked out Fallon occasionally over the past few years and he's come into his own. It's fucked that Fallon gets to stay in NYC and Conan had to relocate but that's Zuckers dick move. Conan deserves The Late Night Show when Letterman leaves.
-
Fallon's kind of got himself locked into a good groove or whatevr at this point. Of course yes the Roots carried his ass for a good while but I think his shit is pretty well in order at this point. Conan is amusing but he macks on the ladies so much that they supposedly aren't keen on going on his show that much. :lol Last I saw Leno he was still making shitty Clinton jokes more than a decade after his administration. Fuck Leno.

Conan's Atlanta show will be great. All his outside skits are going to be hilarious
honestly Conan should probably just have man-on-the-street skit show. Go to festivals, events, odd places and just go wild. That's when he's at his best.
Or he needs to start writing for his show more, and fire some of his writing staff/shuffle them for more production related tasks.
-
Never liked Leno. Used to watch Letterman. Fergeson is great for the Brits he brings on the show. I catch the best bits of Fallon and Kimmel on Youtube.
Main point, Youtube is a thing.
-
Leno is officially leaving Spring 2014.
-
I don't bother with any of these late night shows and just watch shit on Youtube every now and then. Conan does good stuff. Both Leno and Letterman are past due for retirement.
Much like with pro-wrestling, the best part about all these shows is the real-life drama that happens off camera. Doubt we'll get anything with Fallon/Leno like what happened with Conan/Leno. :(
Leno is officially leaving Spring 2014.
Will believe it when I see it!
-
yeah let's see how this pans out :lol
-
I wish I could just buy a Best of Conan DVD each year. I used to watch the show every day (well the first 15 minutes of it anyway) but stopped maybe a year before the last shake up happened
Occasionally I'll watch clips on youtube but I'd rather someone just gather the best 2 or 3 hours a year and sell it to me at Christmas
-
Why are the all the talk show hosts in the US just weird iterations of Larry Sanders.

...for six months :teehee
