Title: PS3 version of D3 has no Auction House
Post by: Cerveza mas fina on March 28, 2013, 08:38:34 AM
Definitive version. Guess they listened to the fans.

Also it's launching with patched up to 1.7.

Things to learn: wait for definitive console version next time.

:piss Auction house :piss2

Better craftable items are the way to go, because then people can work towards them.  Without that and no auction house, you end up with an informed, lucky elite who can leverage one lucky RNG drop into grotesque virtual wealth.

Instead of an expansion pack to this tainted game they should just make D4 with everything they learned.

D3 doesn't seem like a bad game to play through once or twice. Treating it like an MMO and grinding hundreds of hours sounds like a nightmare.

I wonder if the PS4 version will have the auction house restored?   :P

they admitted the auction house sucks, maybe they'll find a way to shut it down in the PC version?   doubtful, of course

I played this once on normal, but I'm not sure if I'll play again until like 10 patches into the next expansion.  Just seems like there's never a good time to play Diablo, unless that's what you play exclusively.

Wait...so instead of going out and playing the game to earn stuff, you just go and buy it?  What's the point?   ???

Lyte, we had to buy via ah because loot was so bad we were all under leveled.

So what you're saying is that the game sucked.
Title: Re: PS3 version of D3 has no Auction House

Not really. The actual combat was great, co-op was fun as hell, the levels were great, and the game had a great challenge on Hell but on Inferno the game was an unbalanced mess. However, on pc and Blizzard games, there are things called patches, and they patched the game just a few months after release, which fixed most, if not all, of these problems.

A game I dump 70 hours into in just a few weeks cannot possibly "suck" and D3 was still my top game last year next to WO3 despite its issues.

Just about the rest of Boresquad who played the fuck out of D3 when it came out agrees. Everyone except Lager, who seems to not have even beaten Nightmare

PATCHES?  WTF ARE PATCHES!?   ??? ??? ???

So if they patched it out so quickly, then why this-

Lyte, I'm going to try to be polite here, but you sound like you don't understand these games.

They patch constantly.  It's just the nature of the beast.

I was messing with himu about the patching, Triumph- I see that he edited his post and removed the condescending part.   :lol

But I am wondering what was up with Zero Hero's comment if it was taken care of so quickly.

Seems like typical growing pains for an online only game, which is why it's wise to stay well clear of MMOs, SimCity, UbiSoft's always online DRM games, etc. at least until the dust has settled and some patches have smoothed things out.

Of course, the more hundreds of hours someone invests into an RPG or RPG series, the more they'll irrationally defend it and personally attack other people for criticizing it. It makes discussing RPGs a nightmare. Bork laser was pretty obviously trolling though.

My favorite part about the D3 complaints are people who complain that they played nonstop sunk 100 hours in the game but still the game sucks somehow.

It does a lot of things right, and most old players wanted to get to inferno I guess.

But it really becomes apparent the game is off in a fundamental way, thays why so many people quit after a playthrough and only ocd folks stayed. Thus having spent 50 hours people can still be very underwhelmed by it, cause they thought they would be playing it for years.

It's really not as contradictory as people think it is. It's sad perhaps, but not contradictory. For one, you need to play a lot to even get to the point where the loot reveals how much it sucks and where it becomes crystal clear that there (was and kinda still) is nothing to do but farm Act 3. Back before the Inferno nerf I put in nearly 100 hours into my Witch Doctor. Didn't even beat Act 2 Inferno and not for lack of trying. It's when you start the journey to loot perfection that it turns into a drag and old Inferno forced people to do that. The AH multiplied these complaints in a lot of ways. The bot baron induced gold inflation hurt even more. So if you don't want to farm Goblins all day you buy gold, arduously grind for it, or pray for a drop that's worth tens or hundreds of millions so that you can afford upgraes. It got a lot better since, but the loot still sucks, so... If you were smart, you'd have played the AH economy from the beginning, but that's not what most people play games for, is it?
Path of Exile now scratches the same itch, but crucially, it feels a lot more satisfying, even if the action is not as good. You get what you need by playing the game.

This is generally true.  Of course, then you'll get people who will tell you that D2 was this great thing, so awesome etc etc, but then after lengthy back and forth you discover that they never actually PLAYED D2 LoD, just plain vanilla D2, meaning they're full of shit and are obviously just the shittiest of trolls.  Those people you can just ignore with impunity.

Obviously I fall into the "have played the shit out of the game" category (although not so much in the past month or so) but I think part of the frustration with people who bitch about the game is that most of their criticisms are from launch or shortly after launch, and the game is about to hit patch 1.0.8.  So, you get people bitching about shit that's either no longer an issue or not SUCH an issue anymore, and people who still play the game are like "wtf are you on about?"  Basically, I think if someone is being an idiot it's ok to treat them like an idiot.

That's another typical theme of online games and MMOs. SimCity, no matter how stable or improved it gets, will carry its launch stigma around pretty much forever. What would make D3 so bad on a controller?
Title: Re: PS3 version of D3 has no Auction House
Post by: Human Snorenado on March 31, 2013, 12:04:36 AM
After watching some videos, I personally don't think it will be all that bad on a controller.  The only exception would be a very particular wizard build that requires you to spam multiple skills relentlessly; I could see that being difficult to do.  However, since that particular build requires the most absurd gearing of any build of any class in the game, the likelihood of any one putting together an effective CM or SNS wizard gear set without an AH is virtually nil, so it probably won't matter to be honest.

If I buy D3 I intend to play it once or twice, maybe take it online for some co-op, then sell it. Controller shouldn't be bad for a casual playthrough.

Do the torchlight demo on 360. Playing with controller is fine. Also launch stigma that mj brought up is bullshit, especially for mmo's. Ffxi and wow had meh launches and were successful as all hell.

People get over launch stigmas. In the GAF's SimCity threads, people were already excusing Diablo 3's launch as amazing in comparison. People forget pretty easily. Steam/HL2 was a pain at launch, but nobody talks of it much now.

He means the WoW launch was sort of fucked.  People not being able to connect for days etc.  Etiolate is right, people forget launches pretty quick.  HL2 was a nightmare and no one counts that as a minus now.

Yeah the main thing with sim city is that it is a shit game on top of having the worst launch ever. Diablo 3 is actually mechanically a great game so no one cares about launch anymore.
