I bit for $9.99 on a Steam sale and...
I heard people bellyaching about this but gave it the benefit of the doubt, because people are whiny and entitled. In fact this is pretty bad indeed:
- No save anywhere system
- Checkpoint system respawns all enemies you killed or knocked out when you restart the checkpoint
- Objectives are "Get to the exit" or "Evade the cops" as opposed to "Kill this guy however you see fit"
- No equipment system
- Levels make you run from hallway to hallway triggering cutscenes every time you hit a one-way door
- Worst cutscenes in history
In short I would have preferred a shittier-looking lower-budget game that was an actual Hitman game as opposed to this, which feels like it was designed by Marketing and focus groups full of chavs. Smh, I guess they're not all Tomb Raiders

"So... you're saying there's a chance...!"
The art direction drove me crazy. It's so saturated and lacking in subtlety. it's like they threw bloom and the worst tendencies of Unreal Tournament's purple and green themes into a blender.
-
My favorite thing about the art direction is how it's the vision of America from people who have obviously never actually been to America. All of the signage is just completely bonkers shit.
Also EVERYTHING HAS BLOOM

I loved the lampooning of decadent swines in Blood Money. This game blew ass however and I had no urge to progress. For someone that beat all previous Hitman games that was fucking unacceptable.
-
There's a point where you're about to kill the big bad guy...
Then the shit fades out...
And it starts a CUTSCENE.
Where you're about to shoot him.
Then someone sneaks up behind you and bonks you on the head and you're KOed.

MARKETING AT WORK

Another game that would be ok as a new IP but instead ruins a loved one
-
Would this be good if you never played a Hitman game like me?

Take Splinter Cell, clone that
Add distinguished mentally-challenged cutscenes
Add really nice if not weird graphics
Add one or two nice open world areas with some pretty sick kills
If you're into stealth games it's certainly fun, but it is so NOT a Hitman game that it sure tweaks my nipples

There's been a lot of sacred cow killing this gen. Since you like tactics games, look at what they did with Front Mission: Evolved. I wouldn't call it a bad game just because it's not a tactics game (although it did end up being a lousy mech shooter anyway). Just have to live with it and move on.

have you had to hack a computer yet?
-
Fuck me this is 25gb just like Max Payne, installing now :lol

Gotta chase that Call of Duty money.
This has always been a problem with video games, only its gotten much worse lately. In previous generations you just had to copy a popular genre or game mechanic. But now you have to BE a popular game. You can't even be just a FPS these days; it has to be a Call of Duty clone specifically.
Hence a game like Hitman can't just be made, even if it would make money. No, that would be too much of an opportunity cost. Why let IO make a real Hitman game when they could instead be striving towards that hypothetical mass market title that will save Square! And you can't make a new IP either because no one pays attention to new IPs this late in the generation.
I imagine the next gen Hitman game being made is even worse :-\

A lot of sacred cows are also being resurrected, though. XCOM and Might & Magic X, just name a couple actually made by publishers.

That's OK, it won't be out for another five or six years, if ever. :P
-
Thank god I've only played Blood Money.

The Xcom remake could easily fall into the "butchered remake" category for some fans of the series.

Too bad for them, then.

XCOM is great, but certainly lacks replayability due to the scripted nature of it. If they have an expansion that randomises events and makes the base layer a bit more strategic it could be awesome.
