Title: Shadow Of Rome Appreciation Thread
Post by: StealthFan on March 31, 2013, 11:47:41 PM
Minus the Octavius sections this game fucking owns. Haven't played it in almost six years and I am buying it Tuesday. Everyone come in here and appreciate the godliness that is this title.

I'm also buying Gladius on Tuesday. I was going to check out Spartan: Total Warrior but a youtube glance tells me it is a God Of War-like.

wasn't Gladius one of the best turn based strat games of last gen (and probably the last really good Lucasarts game), because it sure feels like it.

Shadow of Rome kicks an unholy amount of ass.  Sure, the story isn't super awesome, and the stealth sequences are kinda tedious, but man oh man, does it ever deliver as an action game.  The fighting isn't super deep, but its skill based and its mechanics just work so damn well.  Its one of the rare games that makes even the most common and repetitive action satisfying.  Also, the points system is cleverly implemented and once again, works just so dang well.  A more polished, streamlined sequel could have been a thing of beauty, as is we'll have to be satisfied with the best sandal-wearing beat-em-up of all time (and I didn't forget God of War).

This was the first game I remember where the violence surprised me. Throwing decapitated heads into the audience to make them go wild (more points) and beating people to death with their own limbs? Nuts. Also the fact that it didn't land on the infamous German index (which would prohibit advertising, you'd have to sell it under the counter). No censoring whatsoever, USK18.

I have Gladius and Spartan as well, but haven't played either. I heard Spartan is really difficult.

i never played the game myself but i know it by name because of SUPER JUVENILE VIOLENCE

Quote
31. Urine Trouble - Attack an enemy who has lost control of his/her bladder.

Salvos: 50

Extra Info: Hold R1 to lock-on to a weak enemy and they will sometimes pee in
their pants while pleading for their life.
