Title: How does one drink without nicotine?
Post by: brawndolicious on April 02, 2013, 05:21:22 AM
So I'm just thinking that you really, really want to smoke when you're drunk but of course that's bad for you. But so is drinking and a lot of people just manage to do that so what's up with that?

I grew up with two chain smokers, grandma and dad. I never want to take up that habit.

If you quit long enough this urge will be gone too and you will enjoy drinking without.

Yeah, this is the case, at least for some of us. I eventually lost the urge, but when you're drinking you'll always be one slip away from becoming a fiend again.

You need to take a five year break from nicotine.

I'm drunk posting, so take this wit a lick of salt, but... don't smoke. Hell, smoking deadens your taste buds, it's harder to appreciate the alky-hawl. I had probably the 2nd best alcohol of my life tonight, with the first being a near religious experience. Can't imagine smoking making any addition to that.

Maybe it's better to question what exactly makes you want to smoke when you're drunk.

Don't start smoking in the first place?

I'm guessing that's what I meant, but I'm never succinct.

Don't start smoking in the first place?

I've never had an interest in smoking, so problem solved.

I can't imagine the smoky ash taste accentuating a good beer.

I only get the urge every once and a while, usually if I'm at a bar.  Any other time I'm just like "why would I smoke if I can just have another drink?"

I smoked from 18 to 33. Quit cold turkey. I just turned 38 and quitting was the best decision I've made. I don't miss it at all.

The last time I smoked while drinking was in a casino, and I felt like absolute shit the next day. Not from drinking a huge amount, but the smoke guhhh. I used to handle the rare cigarette without problem.  :-\

Just never saw the appeal of it. It neither tastes good (at least not for anybody not used to it) nor does it give you any sort of buzz or whatever effect you're interested in.

Around here, most clubs have a non smoking policy but bars don't. Even if drink not much at all, I'll have pretty bad headaches the next when I went to a bar. Not the case at all for clubs or drinking outdoors.

Well this was a beat-up casino on the vegas strip (o'sheas), so not only was I inhaling my djarum black*, but god knows what else. Most of the other casinos down there have amazing ventilation, so I didn't even notice it. The first time I stepped into a smoke-friendly bar was in oregon, and I almost collapsed. It reeked.

*yeah I liked cloves so what :'(

Someone that is nicotine naive will definitely get a buzz.

Smoking is banned at public places in WA. No bars, no clubs, etc. Tribal casinos are the only place you can actually smoke anymore. Really nice coming home from a show and no longer reeking of smoke.

False. Nicotine does get you buzzed. Drink a cig with coffee. Two stimulants at once. Amazing. Your entire body feels like an orgasm.

himu's exaggerating

but people start smoking for a reason. and it's not the taste that brings them back

I'm not exaggerating. The high eventually goes away, but comes back if you stop smoking for a bit.

IME, the only time I got a really noticeable buzz from nicotine was using a patch for lulz. That hit hard and fast.

I also got really fucked up dreams (which was the goal I guess), so there is that.

It's how it feels to me.

Better buzz than weed for sure.

No buzz is exagerating. I get a ten minute buzz directly after smoking weed (which happens probably one every couple of months) which I attribute to the nicotine (because everybody tells me that the weed doesn't actually kick in immediately). My point is that a regular smoker won't get that effect and I bet it disappears quickly for somebody that starts to smoke, which is the difference to alcohol or other drugs.

Yeah it takes about a month for the buzz to go away.  But certain drinks like coffee enhance it.

Actually that's true for me as well. Smoking weed is basically ten minutes of nicotine buzz that makes me a bit more outgoing and then the weed kicks in and I get shut into myself with a racing mind and heart.

Yeah it takes about a month for the buzz to go away.  But certain drinks like coffee enhance it.

Okay, didn't know it takes that long to get used to it. Maybe playes a bigger role in getting hooked than I thought.

Yep, cigs annihilate weed. Weed high gets tiresome. Cigs are chillax.

I'm not convinced Himo has smoken a cig or pot before because of this thread

Don't see why. I used to like weed but it makes me paranoid and I feel like I'm going to die, my heart races and I have a thousand thoughts going in my head. Cigs give my body and chill, like a full body orgasm. I smoked my first Camel menthol in a year a few weeks back and the high was such a rush. Better than any weed high I've ever had. I was dancing I felt so good. It prolly also helps that I'm short so my body probably handles both drugs differently. However when I did smoke, my favorite ritual was cigs and coffee. The high from that was ecstasy. Shame it doesn't last too long. Now I want to pick up a pack of camels.

I bet you've smoked for ten years so you don't get to reap the rewards someone who has a single cig every few months does.  :babylawd :rejoice :umad

Probably a pack a day mother fucker. No wonder you don't to feel the joy of cigs and coffee. Your body is too used to the nicotine. Probably smoke Marlboro too!

Same in California. I really enjoyed the smoke-free environment, and am still occasionally surprised in Japan when people light up in a restaurant or bar.

Lot of bars in the bay area don't care if you're smoking actually. Never seen smoking in a restaurant though.

Think about that for a minute and realize how unlikely that is. Why would I maintain a strict diet and exercise regimen yet smoke? I smoked a pack a day my first tour in Iraq, but that was seven years ago and I was a kid.
I would probably smoke my lungs out if I were in iraq too.

Nicotine better than weed?

Sounds like you guys need better weed.
