I don't understand that post. Don't posts normally have letters and words in them? Your post didn't meet my expectations and didn't feel natural or familiar or intuitive for me.

That's a secret external to the Bible, Oscar.
The Holy Trinity isn't a secret; it's just incoherent.

have you tried the book of shut the fuck up, verse you're a goddam distinguished mentally-challenged fellow? i think it's the second line.
not getting into a serious religious discussion, spent 15 years of my life hearing the weekly spiel, you're free to believe what you want, even if i think it's the equivalent of being a grown man who believes in santa claus and gets very prickly when others think it's silly
Why are you getting angry? It is just a question. It is alright if you made it up. No need to get angry dude.

-
you got me, the line "if anyone shows up claiming to be god, fucking kill him, i am the only god, assholes" does not appear in the bible exactly as written.
i'm getting angry because you're being pedantic and pretending the point isn't there, and i've dealt with that shit far too often to not have a hair trigger for it.
I wasnt being pedantic, it was a legit question. The if anyone claims to be god thing started in the Talmud according the the wiki which was made around the same time because of all these people coming and saying they are god. I dunno if there is an earlier verse that says it though.

Well he skips that issue by claiming he is the same god, not a different god like that text says.
-
no one wants to or will get into a serious discussion about the bible so just fucking leave it

Kk. Fair enough.
What about Deuteronomy 4:6?
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+6%3A4&version=NIV
It doesn't say god is 3 in 1. It just says he's 1.
edit: I'm bailing after this post. I've got shit to do.
-
You can't seriously discuss religion with people in a logical manner, because eventually they're going to say "but I believe this" and that's when it's over.

Wow I've never seen you like this on the matters of theology.

I think you can. You just have to go at it the right way. Be open minded and talk nicely. Don't be mean. Comedy also helps.

Yep, thats right. Pretty much what my church teaches. Anyway lets leave it at that.

What your church teaches kinda isn't relevant and in no way has anything to do with Oscar's point. His point is that Christians accept the OT as true, but the god in the OT is prideful and jealous and says to never worship any other gods. Some guy comes around and says he's the SON of God and Christians accept it despite God saying to do otherwise in the OT.
The fact the entire religion is based around this guy is funny.
-

At some point, it's hard to be nice to people who believe in a space fairy

I think you should tackle it in another manner. A lot of "believers" are battered wives with Stockholm. They believe in belief. Of course it depends on the person. If someone were more nice about it and picked holes in my logic and history rather than laughing I would have accepted and lived with the being an atheist far sooner than I did. But when there is a big stigma against non belief and you're being laughed at, it doesn't help anyone.

Er do you want me to explain this or no?

Those of us who don't believe anything are, of course, pretending to kidnap trophy wives and drinking ourselves into a stupor in between our gigs in porn and bad 80's synth pop bands.
-
Okay, back to Atelier Ayesha. Man why didnt anyone say how uguu this game is. :(
-
honestly, you probably shouldn't. the people that believe as you do are all eye-rolling right now at the preposterousness of those who don't, and the people that don't believe as you do are all eye-rolling right now at the preposterousness of those who do. nobody's gonna be changing their core beliefs here today.
let's just break it off and go play some yahtzee or something.
I'm not saying they would. I'm not talking about believers or disbelievers. I'm talking about people spiritually and theologically confused and are hovering around the line. Discussion that would be helpful to them is brushed under for being as patronizing as possible. I know for me, when I was spiritually confused, I was as agnostic as all possible, but whereas the theists were caring and understanding, the atheists were patronizing as hell to the point where I labeled atheist as bad, even though I already was one and refused to admit it.
-
I think my point is that if there is such a thing as a "Team Atheist/Agnostic," then I don't want anyone who ISN'T a bit of an asshole on my team. I value critical thinking skills and honesty above all else. Believing in fairy tales and trying to let people down gently are not part of my agenda.

Oh. Oops.

Radiohead's Hail to the Thief just came on at this coffeeshop. Man this record is pretty sweet.

Okay, back to Atelier Ayesha. Man why didnt anyone say how uguu this game is. :(
It's not exactly a secret.
-
I don't understand how anyone could ever have thought In Rainbows was better than HTTT
-
Hail to the Thief is okay but in the pool of underappreciated Radiohead albums Amnesiac is superior.
-
That is also true
-
idioteque on loop forever.
-
amnesiac is AAA homework music. So many times I woke up at 6 am, after partying or playing games all night and playing Amnesiac, doing my homework two hours before class, and getting an A. Fucking awesome album.
-
HTTT is a great album. I've never been big on Amnesiac; it has some great songs obviously, but also many I could do without.
-
idioteque on loop forever.
Pretty much this. I still remember being floored by their SNL performance of that at the time.
-
Okay, back to Atelier Ayesha. Man why didnt anyone say how uguu this game is. :(
It's not exactly a secret.
But the dialogue takes it to a whole new level. Like. "ahh dont say i am cute. Am I cute? You are making me blush." And they dont do this thing once, they do it over and over again. It isnt "cute".
-
I'm pretty cute, yeah
-
as i get older and people are dying off, i'm having to tiptoe around this crap a lot more often than before, and it honestly just feels like it's too much at times. or like bad shit goes down and people are like "well it's in the lord's hands" instead of doing anything to address the problem and i just feel like screaming.
As my mother's getting older she's getting more into this side of things as well. "God will pay them back, just you wait". But she also believes in black magic and curses (some of which are supposedly being put on me) and such, so... Screaming is about the only thing you can do, really.

I've got Mormon relatives. One among them lapsed, but I can't remember which one, so I can't even ask about it, for fear of asking the wrong one why they lapsed.
In Japan, the door-to-door xtians come by from time to time, and when they see a white foreigner, they get all excited, like they hit the jackpot. The assumption is that I'm christian, and will be an easy sell to bring to their church.
