Title: Bore, what is the pinnacle of sandwich
Post by: Eschaton on April 13, 2013, 10:33:34 AM
For me, its a sandwich from my college town called the trojan. Pieces of roasted chicken wrapped in ham, covered in cheese, mustard, vegetables and korean BBQ sauce in a pita.

I also like meatball subs.

i also like pulled pork sandwiches

Is the Trojan sandwich from USC?

I'm not sure yet what's the best sandwich but the Monte Cristo is something that I've always to try,

From wiki,

A Monte Cristo is a fried ham and cheese sandwich, a variation of the French croque-monsieur. In the 1930s–1960s, American cookbooks had recipes for this sandwich under such names as French Sandwich, Toasted Ham Sandwich, and French Toasted Cheese Sandwich.  Emmental or Gruyère cheese is typically used

Monte Cristos are gooood. Especially with the raspberry sauce, that really ties it all together.

My top sandwiches:

- a Reuben made with a mix of corned beef and pastrami, grilled
- Thinly-sliced Roast beef and creamy horse radish sauce on a kummelweck roll, with au jus for dipping - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beef_on_weck_sandwich
- NC-style chopped pork bbq with a dash of http://www.carolinatreet.com/ sauce and cole slaw
- A well-made Cuban (Ham, roasted pork, swiss cheese, pickle relish, brown mustard)
- Muffuletta - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muffuletta
- Meatball sub (the kind where the meatballs are so big they have to chop them up) with banana peppers
- Arby's Roast Turkey Ranch and Bacon Market Fresh Sandwich - best fast food sandwich imo, expensive though

Monte Cristo sandwich is great, there's nowhere around here serving them anymore :(

I really like a good Cuban as well, which is bonkers because I generally hate mustard.  Not on a cuban, though.

If I ever find out I'm dying from anything, I'm just gonna start mainlining monte cristos.

The most important thing about a sandwich is quality of the ingredients.

Places like Subway are pretty much taste-AIDS.

Not a huge fan of food trucks but I really like Roli Roti and I love their porchetta sandwich.  Wish they still sold the porchetta by the pound though.

This little restaurant in San Ramon makes a great crab and shrimp sandwich too.

Bread.

Mayo.

Turkey or chicken.

Mustard on top of the meat.

Lettuce, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, banana peppers, jalapenos, pickles, black olives.

Put vinegar and olive oil on it. Sprinkle salt. Put on pepper, and cayenne pepper.

Firehouse is pretty good. They pile up all this deli meat and then steam it up real good, throw it on a toasted bun, and then give you a wide array of hot sauce to experiment with free of charge. They also have one of those soda fountains that allows you to mix various flavors, like raspberry with Dr. Pepper and that kind of thing.

I like a good Turkey sandwich.  This place in Wilmington had a badass one, turkey was very flavorful and they had remoulade as a sauce option.

Another specific sandwich that was delicious was the eggplant parm at Little Italy I think it was?  SO FUCKING GOOD.  Fresh baked bread, too.  After eating one of those I always wanted a nap.

My top sandwiches:

- Thinly-sliced Roast beef and creamy horse radish sauce on a kummelweck roll, with au jus for dipping - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beef_on_weck_sandwich

IIRC you are from the south, do they have these down there? I always thought it was local to the Buffalo area... used to eat a ton of them back in school at Charlie the Butcher.

I'm pretty partial to Pastrami on Rye, Philly Cheesesteaks without the cheese (just the steak, peppers and onions) and a good buffalo chicken sub. Recently discovered a delicious restaurant around here called Roast Sandwich House that has all sorts of great stuff.

There's an obsession with cramming huge wodges of meat between I appealing looking bits of bread.

It's probably high time for the good ole US of A to press reset and go back to the Presbyterian basics their forefathers were so good at: genocide, banning children's laughter and inbreeding.

Alternately, I've heard that Elvis used to do them "Monte Cristo style," so dipped in egg batter and then fried, a la French Toast/pain perdu.

I must admit, I've never tried either method. Toast is plenty good.

LOL at Cormacaroni contributing to a sandwich thread.

SANDWICHES HAVE BREAD.

There, that should scare him off. Lets continue talking about delicious things surrounded by carbs.

I just threw some newly bought PB & J in the dumpster by mistake. My brain is scattered and my stomach is still growling. I should stop using grocery plastic bags for trash cans. FML.

I make peanut butter sandwiches with an inch thick layer of peanut butter.  Just one slice of bread mind you - don't want it getting in the way of the peanut butter.  I also get the cheapest bread possible.  Like the Safeway brand that you can't really taste.  I just need a vessel to hold the peanut butter.

I would post a picture but there doesn't seem to be a picture online of anything that accurately illustrates what I do.

EDIT Found one!

Also, creamy peanut butter only.

Eh.  I'm ok with Nutella.  I don't crave it or anything.  I prefer peanut butter.  Like in crepes. :drool

I was reintroduced to P&J sandwiches over the last few months, due to babysitting some cousins; they love them. I don't see how anyone can hate on them tbh. I'm not saying they're the greatest thing ever, but it's a nice snack meal. Quick, easy, tasty, etc. Maybe it would suck if you use white bread but I only fuck with the good stuff: whole wheat bread. Add some generic market jelly and easy creamy Jiffy peanut butter and you have yourself a nice lunch.

I just like the slight sweet taste of Silk. Never been a big milk guy.

And I love Subway bread. If I had to rate my favorite breads it would probably be something like

1. Olive Garden breadsticks
2. Subway wheat bread
3. French bread

If you're gonna be a pussy milk hater, at least go for the good alternatives.

I'm a big fan of chocolate soy milk.

I can get some pretty good soy milk in Japan, but not chocolate.
