Built my friend's PC, everything went smoothly, but updating Win7 is just a nightmare of failed updates and multiple restarts and the 7850 MOM.exe giving me errors because it won't work without .Net 4 but I can't ever get to .NET 4 because all this other shit keeps failing and making me restart.
I don't remember any of this shit happening back in 2010 when I built my PC. :wtf

I have a q990 with a radeon 6950 OC'd. No problems here with Vista.
-
I don't think Windows Update was ever good. I still have XP and the thing never worked for me. Or am I talking about 'find drivers online' and 'troubleshoot'? Neither of the 3 work.
-
can you use on board graphics, then put the 7850 in after all the other updates?
-
windows update is finally working correctly, maybe downloads were getting corrupted or something

I had a similar problem a few months ago where I could download various language packs and minor updates, but couldn't do any security updates. My first thought was to do some malware scans and clean the registry but that didn't fix it. Finally I gave up and called MS tech; I watched the tech do everything I had been doing previously before she was like ok, I'm just gonna reinstall Windows. IMO that's always the last option, and I didn't lose any data but it took forever. Fixed the problem though.

I'm pretty sure Windows/Microsoft wouldn't just leave updates that crash and fuck with your PC up... something is clearly on your end. I had issues with failed installs, but it was due to some faulty graphics driver I had going on. Once I sorted it out, Update ran smooth.
-
i think i figured out what caused it, i had checked all the optional updates, the last time i ran update i forgot to check them and everything went through - so i think one of them was failing and causing everything after it to fail, maybe?
-
Possibly, I never do the optional installs.
-
I usually install optional updates after everything else.
-
I've had problems with some optional Silverlight update before that was failing the entire process as well. Sounds likely.
-
2 optional updates were the sole cause of the constant crashes I was experiencing when I upgraded to Win 8. Everyone on the notebookreview's asus forum was experiencing the same problem.
-
This doesn't technically fit here, but it has "windows" and "update" so I'm gonna dump it anyways...

Removing Google calendar sync is really really shitty move. I was relying entirely on it as far as the calendar app goes. Now it's completely useless and I may as well remove it. This is not how you move forward with your mobile technology. Instead of encapsulating more services to attract users you sit idly and allow to be stripped away? SMH.

It's not what you think:
