I aint reading all that stupid shit, fuck you
-
Because it's FUCKING free and I had no idea what kind of game it was
-
Hate to break this to you, but if you haven't played the prequel (999) you probably shouldn't be bothering yourself with this. Thanks for understanding.
-
Dumbass
-
"What's the deal with this book being filled with words?! I ain't reading all that!"

I wish I could skip the novel part, I'd like to play the puzzles :)
-
I was happy I played VLR first. Story was more interesting and they use very similar devices...might even say they're a bit interchangeable, but with the MUCH more interesting twists going to VLR.
-
Read a book instead
In fact you should read Dr. Adder by KW Jeter

whoa, going on the list...
-
This thread is amazing :lol
-
It and 999 are more text heavy than say, Hotel Dusk and Phoenix Wright but still, if you hate story driven Text hell games then avoid such games.

then Like my post, fucker

This game's characters, visual art and setting are so goddamn unappealing. Man I hate games that have high tech sci-fi interfaces. I really can't stand the 'cardboard characters lined up next to eachother talking IN YOUR FACE. Fuck the people who are responsible for this trend. Fucking fuck. This is the reason why 99.99% of all """""rpg"""""" games released since the ps2 days are fucking shit. People with shitty taste piss me off.
-
Trend? It's one of the basic elements of visual novels. Clearly the genre is not for you so no need to get angry about it.
-
Don't tell me what to do.
Also that trend isn't exclusive to visual novels, also a shitload of rpgs that are filled with anime characters.
-
Lots of games made in Japan have contemporary Japanese art, you say?
:rofl
-
Doesn't negate the complaint.
-
How can someone who is currently playing s game where they give 10 minute monologues on Godzilla hate on a text adventure?
Metal Gear fans! ::)
-
Voice acting makes the difference.
-
I played 999 for about an hour and the insanely slow text scroll speed made me want to choke a preschooler. No, just no
-
Do they also slow down to a crawl when someone is shocked or confused?

Wasn't Hotel Dusk like that?
-
I quit that piece of shit game after it punished me for being rude to some little brat by giving me a game over, TWENTY MINUTES AFTER THE FACT

please understand

The game doesn't punish you, you have to play every path, good and bad, if you want to finish it.
-
just shut it you doofus

yeah but it looks like it was drawn with a pencil and the main character has a goatee and bags under his eyes, so it's mature and you are not mature enough to understand the Unique ArtStyle™

FUUUUUUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Gaming has grown up old man. Your precious "books" are out of date. The children of tomorrow will no longer speak of Crime and Punishment or The Great Gatsby, they will pontificate about the cutting edge and paradigm changing representations of race in Bioshock Infinite and gender in Tom Braider.

BROFIST

lol books, OKAY GRANDPA
-
I have A Game of Thrones on my desk, should I read it?
-
playing a visual novel is like reading a book...and SCHOOL'S OUT!
-
Actually, just received Hotel Dusk 2: Last Window in the mail. Soon as I complete my second run in Fire Emblem, I'm going to devour it.
Can't get enough of these games.
-
Im giving this game a second shot. This shit is pretty good. Fuck the haters.

once the twists start hitting, it doesn't really stop. not a literary masterpiece, but damn was it entertaining. i almost passed because the "puzzles" are 'tarded, glad i didn't...i think jinfash slapped some sense into me after i bizarrely ranted about the puzzles

These "books" you mention... do they have waifus too? :uguu
(in all seriousness, now that I've finished with Sonic and Binary Domain, VLR is my next up. I've put a bit more time into it, even getting to a few endings/gameovers. Will try to get every ending and "secret password"... now it's starting to pick up a bit and not feel like as much of a 999 retread, plus I like how you can finally SKIP THE GODDAMN PUZZLES YOU HAVE ALREADY DONE unlike in 999)
-
Do they also slow down to a crawl when someone is shocked or confused?
Haha

I tried... it didn't have the same "magic" of Hotel Dusk: Room 215.
I mean it's okay and all but it doesn't have the same charm and I don't like how the "mystery" drags. I kinda stopped and should go back to it again.
I think Hotel Dusk and Last Window's problem is that the gameplay is AWFUL between the adventure bits. It Kyle did the traveling himself and it was simply a visual novel it'd be far better paced (I hope) to where it was more engaging.
-
all of the cing adventure games are boring as fuck, the only one that get some redeeming value is the first Trace Memory for making a novel (especialy at the time when touch screen were a shiny new thing) use of the DS
-
I never played Trace Memory so I wouldn't know. But I did really like Hotel Dusk's art-style and characters. It's just the stupid backtracking to move the story forward that dragged it.
I will give Hotel Dusk points for that locked-room puzzle segment. That was pretty tense if you didn't do an FAQ to get past that.

this game rules. Zero Jr is an awesome character. I can't play it anymore though since my free PS+ trial ran out yesterday. What will happen to my save file?
