All you honkeys need to grab this album. It's pretty goddamn hot.
Be aware that this isn't Discovery 2.0, and neither is it an extension of the Tron Legacy sound. It's much more of a chill-out album. There are a few tracks that could be good in a club setting, and some that might work well with a remix, but by and large it isn't a dance album. Anyone looking for sick drops should look elsewhere. There's nothing like the Around the World/Harder Better Faster Stronger Alive 2007 mix here.
Once you get past that, the album is fucking great. Lush, incredibly detailed soundscapes that sound fantastic on a good pair of headphones. I can see myself listening to this for a long time to come.
Favorite tracks so far: Giorgio by Moroder, Contact, Beyond, Get Lucky, Motherboard. The only track I'm not feeling so far is Within, but I'll give that another listen later.
-
Within is dope. It's like the cheesier part of Face to Face, 24/7/365.
-
It's OK. Sounds like a 6.7 / 10.
-
Am I the only one who doesn't get the adjectives and descriptions used in music reviews? I mean I get it, but a simple yes or no, do not buy or do pirate is enough for me. It's not that they're complicated reviews, it's just that they're very fucking unnecessary if you know the motherfucker who's doing the review.
So you tell me I should get it; should I buy it or should I torrent it?
-
The songs consist of sounds; someone with a musical background might describe some of them as "beats". Sometimes people sing. In summary: Don't bother.
-
Someone up this and then pm it to me.

This album owns.
Best Daft Punk since Discovery. Totally different feel from them. Robo is insane. G is God. :bow
-
after many listens I think my favorite song is touch
its reminds me of the song demon days by gorillaz
also the todd edwards track is cool
-
I may get this on vinyl as well as cd.
-
they are probably making them as demanded not limited
the japanese cd will have an extra track called horizon tho, maybe get that
japanese imports always have extras
-
Listen to Giorgio with headphones on. :rejoice
2 minute mark :bow
-
The jazz and funk fusion with house is amazing. I love this sound.
Robo you are insane. I'M SORRY.
-
the drums on giorgio. :rejoice
I keep listening to this song over and over. Definitely the standout for me. May be a top DP track. Holy fuck.
-
K. I've gone through it one and a half times. Bout to head to bed. I've been listening to Human After All, Homework, and Discovery and Alive on repeat the past few weeks...
and I think this may be their best album, but I have to give it more listens.
If you're going into this with the thought of typical daft punk house music, you may end up disappointed. It's very chill, almost downtempo and ambient in a way, with some jazz and funk leanings, more so than usual. There are even orchestrated influences in here with strings. This doesn't sound like standard Daft Punk in any way.
-
It definitely lives up to its "random" element. The one song that I just can't get enough of is "Lose yourself to Dance" it's the sex. I was listening to this in the car today and was disappointed, but once I got the headphones out my mind changed. Loving a lot of the album, but not understanding the love for some of the songs. A lot are just highly repetitive. But I'm not knocking this piece of work, cause it is arguably the most important work DP has done. What other edm artist has ever "devolved" and made an album of purely original analogue content in the vein of the very things they would use to sample and make hit albums off of?
"Touch" is my second favorite song I think, it's grown on me too much. It's like an unfinished song from the period that they revived and brought back to life.
-
Favorite tracks so far: Giorgio by Moroder, Contact, Beyond, Get Lucky, Motherboard.
If I had to choose my top tracks, this would be it also. Giorgio by Moroder and Motherboard are my absolute two favorites at the moment though. I wanna hear them on some big ass concert/venue speakers.
-
Robo you are insane. I'M SORRY.
I'm only human after all. :-[
-
It's not on Spotify FAAAAAAAIL.
-
6.5-7/10 sounds right
I think Touch is the best song, although I wish there was more singing on it; the melody is so great. Overall it's a mixed album to me. The first two tracks are somewhat forgettable - the first track feels almost generic, like Studio 54 elevator music, and the vocals are forgettable. The Game of Love and Within both don't work to me either; Daft Punk has done downtempo stuff well before (Something About Us) both these just don't have a compelling sound to me, and just drone on.
Giorgio by Moroder is good, and I like Instant Crush. Lose Yourself To Dance SHOULD be the best song on the album, and one of the best of the year; the melody, the guitar, that amazing bass...but I just don't like Pharrell's singing. He sounds like some guy with a nice but limited voice doing karaoke. Same problem I have with Get Lucky. Not saying they're bad songs, they're just frustrating because you can tell a better singer (preferably female) would turn them into truly great songs.
I don't get the love for Contact. It has such a big build up but when you think you get to the climax there's...nothing. It's like the middle of a 70s prog rock song, except it ends instead of exploding into some jam.
-
Robo is not insane. In fact, him giving it 6.7/10 is quite generous. I don't think this album deserves such a score, nothing but overhyped dross. Absolute disappointing. Then again, I never liked Daft Punk, except that wicked Interstella 5555... well the animation not the music.
-
Guys.
Giorgio.
Fucking awesome.
-
In what will surprise absolutely no one, I am utterly in love with Giorgio by Moroder.

No way is an album with Giorgio by Moroder on it a 7.
-
youre right more like a 3.
album is shit. it's a bad version of Moon Safari. only good song is Instant crush.
-
Moon Safari is a classic but..
no. It's not.
-
Giorgio by Moroder is cool but rather repetitive.
-
Moon Safari is a classic, but this isn't a cheap version of Moon Safari like Methodis suggests. Though there are similarities (downtempo, and funk inspired electronic leanings).
-
and its methodis

INSTANT CRUSH IS THE NEW OFFICIAL SUMMER 2K13 JAM.
-
GONNA BE ON THE COVER OF JAM MASTERS MAGAZINE.
-
and its methodis
Don't be like that. He got a good comparison down, but I don't think it's bad.
-
I didn't listen to Get Lucky cause, whatevs man. Already heard it. WRONG. Album edit is leagues better.
-
In what will surprise absolutely no one, I am utterly in love with Giorgio by Moroder.
Can anyone recommend other stuff like this song? Because it does rule. As does Contact. (That's about it.)
-
Contact is like the middle of a Meddle-era Pink Floyd song. Except the Pink Floyd song would have a glorious, awesome ending whereas Contact is builds up but has no climax. Meh.
-
Do you mean Touch?
-
God, Give Life Back to Music is such an awesome opening song.
-

However, I do adore Doin' It Right, which should surprise no one.
-
That Giorgio interview is unfortunate. I'm already skipping the track about four spins through because I simply can't stand to listen to the interview again.
-
Agree the interview is unnecessary, but I think it adds to the songs feel.
-
It does the first time you hear it, sure. Not the second or third and so on. That's why the baby Jesus invented skippable segue tracks.
-
Same thing with Contact.
-
Still listening to this and I'm on fifth listen and still don't get the hate. Giorgio may be my favorite Daft Punk song. Album is chill as fuck. Listen to it in bed with your eyes closed. Reminds me the first time I listened to Kid A.
-
So were liking it on here. 8)
Good stuff. I loveeee it. Was on Gaf earlier where the who didn't see it coming backlash is warming up.
Weeks of unnecessary hype on there :lol I could only see a bad end to it all.
-
So I am debating about getting a damn LP player just because of this album. Anyone know of any good ones? Also any good DAC recommendations? I told myself I wouldn't do this, but damnit I know its the way the music is meant to be felt and heard!
CD is gonna be $7.99 at Bestbuy with a coupon.
-
This album is awesome. They took a big risk with some of the more ambitious songs, but they nailed it.
-
Not sure why people are disappointed with the album, it's exactly how they said it would be in interviews before the release. And it makes a lot of sense when you know their inspirations and sample sources for the first albums (especially the second). I guess alot of people became fans after their big live shows.
-
i'm not really a daft punk fan, but the divisiveness and the Air comparisons make me wanna hear it!

Depends on how much you wanna spend. There's the pro-ject Debut III that's $300 or something and needs a DAC or something. I have a cheap ass ATLP60 + $20 headphone amp until I feel like upgrading...gets the job done.
-
The album is great. There's nothing that quite matches the excellence of the Face to Face/Too Long ending combo of Discovery, but it's a fucking great album.
-
I can't get into it. Will listen some other time. Sometimes these mellower styles don't click with me unless I'm intensely concentrating on something else entirely.
-
The Air comparisons are pretty apt. I love Air so it fits me perfectly, but it's not for everyone.

-
Ha. My hang-up is that it doesn't.
-

It really doesn't though. Daft Punk got rid of sampling and embraced downtempo and ambient elements. It's far more chill than say, Discovery. But to me this is Discovery's most chill track.

Compared to RAM's second fucking track:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnZHnox8VVg
and it continues from there.
To say it sounds like the same old daft punk is just....weird to me. It really doesn't.
-
The Game of Love is this albums most underrated track. Fucking beautiful song.
This is Discovery's second track in comparison:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L93-7vRfxNs
-
There's a difference between downtempo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6s5xhcBiDw) and stuff that just drones on. The tempo plus the robot vocal effect just makes Within and (to a lesser extent) Game of Love insufferable to me.
-
Are you new to Daft Punk? Robot vocals is one of their most iconic things.
-
I know, I just don't think they work on certain tracks.
I'm probably in the extreme minority here, but I still don't think Pharrell works on this album. Sounds like karaoke vocals to me; Get Lucky is not a bad song, it just feels like it should be a whole lot better. Lose Yourself to Dance has such a great melody and riff but the vocals take me out of it. Imagine Prince on that track instead...
-
Get Lucky is the worst song on the album.

This album is worse the Human After All so far. I'm on track 5.
-
Instant Crush is the best track, I guess the album is good for what it is (non offending background music for a bbq or shopping), but I wouldn't be listening to it a lot.
-
I never liked Daft Punk, and I like most of all the other stuff that people like, so it can't be me.
-
Get Lucky might be the worst song on the album if most of it wasn't boring as hell.
