Any good coffee beers? Something creamy and sweet like a liqueur but with beer?
-
not coffee, but an oatmeal stout might be to your liking
-
similar to guinness?
-
not really. a similar consistency but a little lighter and a sweet taste. a local bar always has one on tap, and some of my friends recommend it. personally, too sweet for me
-
this is supposed to be good, haven't tried it:

You want some stouts, this is a particularly good one:

Never mind coffee beer—get yerself an Irish coffee.
-
youngs double chocolate stout is untouchable greatness

Let me be the first to say that this is the greatest name for a beer in the history of the universe.

I used to drink these mixed with Lindemann's Framboise no homo
that's an interesting mix-- which one? raspberrry?
ice cold framboise in the summer is heaven. I just wish the alcohol content was a little higher.
I think I'll try young's tonight.
-
Do not, not, not get Geek's Breakfast or Geek's Brunch.
I was intrigued by the idea of oatmeal, coffee, and bacon in a beer.
I think it was $13 a bottle at Whole Foods, and it tasted like a bicycle tire.
-
doesn't sound too bad honestly
-
Framboise = raspberry
whoops, right. i was thinking lambic in general for some reason.
-
Stone has a coffee IPA (Dayman) out right now. I haven't had it, but I've had a coffee infused IPA from a Seattle brewery and it was fantastic.
Deschutes' Black Butte Anniversary porter has great coffee notes. Sixpoint did a collab beer with Stumptown earlier this year, too. What about Left Hand Brewing's Nitro Milk Stout?

I've had the Rogue Ale Shakepeares's Oatmeal Stout - fantastic. I've never had their Chocolate though

Bought a Young's and a Rogue chocolate stout. and a trippel IPA.
can't decide which to drink tonight (no, not all of them.) One of the chocolates, most likely.
-
Nice suggestions here. Gotta pick up a chocolate beer soon.
-
the Young's was good but not impressive enough to buy again. I didn't really taste any chocolate, but it was pretty smooth. very slightly sweet.
i'll try the rogue tomorrow
-
oatmeal stout is pretty amazing
-
This thread also inspired me to pick up some beer:

Got the framboise, too. I'm drinking the Chocolate Yeti right now and it is incredible. The head was so thick and dark, just like I like 'em.
The Cuvee Rene Gueuze is awesome and the best thing Lindeman's makes. No added sugar like their kriek, peche, framboise, etc.

That's nice but not as nice as this:

Fuck if I keep looking at this thread I'm going to keep buying beer.
:D

tbh I'm not really sure how you could have expected it to be good.

We need a new beer OT.

after my post, I tried the Young's and found it kinda meh. Rogue's chocolate stout was much better. but the Triple IPA took a giant dump on them both and got me silly after one bottle cause it's 10% looool
There were a couple other chocolate stouts, chocolate milk stouts, etc. at the store that I think I'll try out. I hope they're more interesting than young's or rogue's though.

It was a rare moment of misplaced optimism.
Or maybe is was solely curiosity. And you know what that did to the proverbial cat.

I think the Odellls chocolate milk stout was about 8.5%. Couldn't drink any more than one as it was a tad sweet for my tastes.

I've wanted to try Odells. Is it actually good?

It's probably the nicest chocolate stout I've had but I'm personally not that big on chocolate stouts as a whole. Not had any of their other stuff as I live in the UK and Odells stuff is hard to find and as expensive as fuck when you do manage to find it. I'm fortunate enough to live a five minute walk away from Camden Town Brewery and they occasionally get a few guest breweries/beers in at their brewery bar.
-
they don't distribute in IL unfortunately.
picked up a local brewery's chocolate milk stout today (last one i'm trying unless it's mind blowing)
and a Faro Lambic^^^
and a Gaverhopke Singing Blonde (belgian ale)
i need to look stuff up before i hit up Binny's. too many dang choices.
-
Definitely not sweet, but this shit is pretty great:
