She's definitely not white, though.

She has the same skin tone as my grandmother and is only slightly darker than my aunt.

The problem is, when defining blackness, it mostly comes to identity sometimes more than physical looks. Rashida Jones does not consider herself black, nor white. But Beyonce identifes as black. In the grand scheme:

I dunno, Mariah has always looked SERIOUSLY Latin American/Hispanic to me. Her mom's Irish-American and her dad's African-Venezuelan. I mean, far be it from me to tell people how to identify culturally, but...

Racial issues have always been pretty complex around here with xenophobia, black tribes hating other black tribes, coloureds loving and wanting to be whites hating blacks, asians mistrusting porras and greeks and vice versa, malays being coloured but mostly muslim having a rift with the rest of the coloured community, the hindi and muslim indians distancing themselves from the malays even if they shared a lot in common. And there was that apartheid thing too #YOLO

So I guess what I am saying is racial issues here were complex from the start and at the forefront of peoples thoughts during the 80s and 90s especially so I grew up in it and became very used to and aware of it.
