Cruncheon types !
My MacBook Pro (i know... i know...) went swimming accidentally a few days ago and after glugging down a litre or so of fine French filtered water it's no longer in an operational state.
I am now in the market for a replacement - infact, it's going to be acting as a laptop and desktop replacement and, as luck would have it, haswell refresh seems to be just about to spring upon us.
So - as soon as one of these "badboys" drops i need to get in and get one. I'd assume that ultimately pairing one with a 780M or something of that ilk would be the way to go? SSD of course.
Is there anything i should be aware of, oh masters of laptopia?

You'll be waiting till august for any of the Haswell's to come out. But I suspect the 700 line will be included in the Mac book pro that have Haswell. I too am waiting for one as well, it'll be my first mac.
-
How did it end up going swimming?
-
Haswell devices will be shown on June 4 at Computex, Taiwan.

17.3-inch GT70 Dragon Edition 2 will pack a yet-to-be-announced Haswell chip alongside an equally mysterious NVIDIA GTX780M GPU that is claimed to deliver a 3DMark Vantage score of 36,000
It begiiiiins

Sums up most things I hate about W8 hardware and touchscreen laptops. Fuckin trackpad above the keyboard, makes me want to get an old nubbin only Thinkpad. Apples getting it way to easy at the moment
-
It's just 1 design among many.
-
It does look quite nice, that floating screen is hot. It just seems wholly impractical, which is what I think of W8 in general, OSX has also sucked since 10.6. Both companies UI decisions are being taken over by their mobile divisions. Linux too, Gnome these days :yuck It's a strange period where they're trying to marry the simplicity of touchscreen UIs with a desktop OS and failing imo. At the moment it's very ham fisted, it will get better sure.... In the meantime I'm a hater.

Still not as thin as the leading edge on a MacBook Air.

Unlike Acer and Asus, who overwhelmed us with sheer numbers this morning, Dell's Computex assault is formed by just one, standout product, the XPS 11. This 11.6-inch laptop touts an outstanding 2560 x 1440 resolution, plus its exterior is adorned in a carbon fiber weave and machined aluminum, yet the company is pitching it as something even more: a two-in-one device.

Out of time, laptop ordered
plumbed for the non-dragon non-red MSI.
32gb memory, 780m, 4700K, 17.3 inch etc etc
... will this run outlook.com okay? :/
-
Probably, but MS' "Ribbon" will take up half your screen real estate.
That's on any screen, though. It scales to fill half of any screen.

Should have got a Pixel.

.... why would i stab myself in the cock?
I ended up having stupid Japanese credit card issues - so i'm holding off until i get time to just go pay in cash #likeabooows
re: MBP - i was considering it - but yeah, no refresh = no sale + it'll likely be the same/more than the MSI but with a better screen but worse guts
-
Can most programs use 32gb of memory or does it start becoming very diminishing returns at some point? Honest question, I have no idea
-
no. 32 GB is mad overkill.
