The economy is recovering, the housing market has rebounded, and the Dow has surpassed 15,000. With so much wealth spreading around, what better time is there to buy a budget gaming system for your young son or cousin? Like a Fisher Price fishing pole, a budget console can introduce your young family member to a new hobby. With the right support and system, he should be ready for an adult console (PS4) sooner than you think. Before you know it he'll be ready to join the PC master race with his own custom built gaming rig.

I was actually planning on getting a PS3 already for streaming/blu-ray and the odd game that I didn't play for the current gen that I can get on the cheap.
-
:lol @ xbox one being there
-
Where's the "iPhone 6/Android device" option? That's my vote.
-
Poll has been edited to reflect the ever changing budget market.

Wii U
-
Wii U will have a few 1st party games and Bayonetta 2 by then, so I picked that.
edit: I don't have young ones, i'm a creepy unmarried guy
-
PC has games, so I'd go with that.
-
ill spend my time going "i always wanted to play [old game]. i think ill go do that now!" until someone finds a way to give me reasonably-priced gaming.
-
I have a huge backlog of triple a games to play on the pc still.
Plus many games that are yet not out.
-
edit....man did I missread that lol
Probably a 360 for Minecraft. Seriously. That's all the kids want to play around here.
-
Backlogs, my only weakness. :'(

Kneel to the almighty mobile platform

Backlogs and revisiting old systems. So far there is virtually no reason to purchase a next Gen system. All the games so far are cross Gen and the ones that aren't? Same old shit.
I think I'll stick with my 360, ps3, 3ds, upgrade my PC and revisit old worlds and old adventures in the form of old systems. I need to take Japanese classes so I can play psx imports. That sounds more enticing than next Gen. As for next Gen, I play the waiting game. Though so far I'm leaning ps4.

Looks like it is the PC, 3DS, and Vita for me.
-
There's enough PS3 only stuff out there that I want to justify one at a decent price point.
-
I am buying a wiiu and a bunch of games when they get released for when kids come over.
-
uh, none?

-
it's a game when you don't know all the words
-
If a price cut happens I'll probably pick up a Vita for Celceta, Wipeout and Lumines.
-
now more than ever i have no problem waiting a couple years to let the consoles sort their shit out. i tried to get in early last gen and i ended up with all 3 systems even tho i only really played the 360. i also had to wait years before i could get much because it took SO FUCKIN LONG before games hit the 30 and under sweet spot. obviously thats gonna be an even bigger problem this go round

For a young kid I would probably go with an iPad and Skylanders
I've never played skylanders on the ipad but I imagine it controls fine. I've had it on the Wii U for like two weeks and my kid is already up to 6 figures :( and there are still two elements left :(
-
I just put $400 into my PC so probably nothing.
-
I'm not planning on buying any more gifts to people I know.
For myself I already own a Wii U, a Vita and a 2013 gaming PC. Unless Sony botches E3 I will likely get a PS4 at launch. I have friends picking up the Ouya and Oculus Rift, so I'll try them out in a month or so.

OUYA

I don't have any young ones but I'll pick up a Wii U after a price drop as I missed the last lot here in the UK.
